  1. The old Lima H0 Mk1s are pretty common on the second-hand market and if you're really keen can be reskinned and rebogied to correct the undersized originals. The Fleischmann H0 Bullieds are a little rarer, but do turn up from time to time.
  2. Quick question regarding the bracket signals with the control box under the board - does any know what the pitch of the 3-pin JST plug is, please. Looks to be 1.25 or 1.5? Sorting the signals for a friend who has misplaced a set of leads for one of his bracket signals (GW 2-doll lower-quad) and I'd prefer to order the right size from the off.

  6. Thanks Clive, that's something I hadn't considered, but will now do so. Maybe I need to make two Van Bs...🤔
  7. Having successfully scratchbuilt a pair of SR PMVs from plasticard in H0 scale, my thoughts now turn to a Van B, using a spare set of the Fleischmann 8ft SR bogies. Looking across the various online sources, I've found a couple of photos of S265 which has plywood sides (and doors?). Not having much in the way of SR NPCCS books, was this a one-off? Built with ply sides or was it a later conversion and if so, when? The SREMG page on Van Bs has a 1986-dated pic (the bottom one) https://sremg.org.uk/vandw/vanb-mob.shtml and Paul Bartlett's website also has a 1985-dated pic of S265. Basically, I'm being slightly lazy in not wanting to accurately score the additional lines in my Evergreen 6" planking sheet to split a couple of planks into 3"-ers. It took a couple of goes to get right on one of the PMV and Evergreen sheet isn't as cheap as it was! Another option might be S269, which appears to have had much of one side at least replaced with 6" planking (1st pic on the SREMG link above) Gratuitous shots of my H0 PMVs under build and (almost) finished - I still need to add some undergubbins to them TIA!
  8. No problem. I may give it a go anyway on my Kirk 51' Ordinaries, as they'll need glazing once painted. I've found 10 thou works fine (so far) where i've used it to glaze locos and stock. I hold the panes in place with a thin smear of MicroScale's Kristal Klear around the inside edge of the opening, then carefully place the glazing in.
  9. How consistent are the moulded window openings? If they are fairly consistent, it would be possible to draw up and cut individual panes in 10 thou clear sheet on a Silhouette or CriCut machine. Happy to give it a try if you can supply dimensions.

  17. *blows the dust off* Hasselhöf Nord has been rather dormant whilst I've been busy with stock for Nové Město and Dounreay (not to mention the day job), but is about to be re-kindled as my autumn/winter build. Browsing through Voie Libre #113* on the way into work yesterday, there was a rather neat micro plan done as a folding tramway layout. I wondered if the plan might work for Hasselhöf Nord, so I mocked it up this morning on one of my spare Ikea Lack 110cm shelves. I think it will work quite nicely, so will temporarily lay it out properly and test with some stock. Certainly appears to give more 'play value' than the previous iterations. Entry is the top right (into the 3-way), with 5 loading spots to shunt wagonry around, capacity being around 8 . Motive power would be Köf II, V36/Br103, V60 (Ost), with the left-hand headshunt just long enough to take the longest of those. The various structures will be reworked (again) slightly to better fit the new plan. *Voie Libre is a French-language quarterly magazine that focusses on light railways, tramways, narrow gauge and the like. An English-language version is available and it can be had in hard copy or digital. Well worth a look. https://trains.lrpresse.com/CT-152-voie-libre.aspx
  18. Here's a couple I snapped yesterday at Shenfield (I was Steve's neighbour with my Czech TT micro) Ruston Sidings is absolutely superb in the flesh, the sense of space and place, the colour palette are spot-on. Later in the afternoon, with the sunlight through the hall windows falling just-so... Stunning!
