Look out for more releases in the new year from this scanning session, including seated Victorian passengers. There is a distinct air of Dicken's Scrooge: A Christmas Carol about them - maybe we should add a Scrooge to finish the set!
  3. Looks like all the answers are done before I got here. Biggest recommendation when painting figures is to take your time.

  5. Newsletter continued: We are hugely proud to have been involved in the annoucement of Rapido Trains UK brand new OO locomotives today! Rapido commissioned us to produce 3D printed samples of their forthcoming locomotives - a task which pushed our capabilities to the limit in order to recreate the fantastic levels of detail Rapdio have achieved. Announcement include re-run of the Stirling Single, LSWR O1, LNER J52/2 and the diminutive Port of Par Bagnall Tanks pair. All of which will receive bespoke Modelu crews! Revolution's Caroline's have long been on our radar for a crew set - we even scanned the Revolution team at Ally Pally in 2022 for this purpose! Come soon will be a complete set of figures to populate these superb models.
  6. Happy Friday everyone, I didn't want to fill this feed up too much with two newsletters one after another so please see the newsletter that went out last Friday. This is just a quick reminder also that if you would like to place a pre order for Warley then please do so as soon as possible so we can make sure we can have it printed in time for the show. The below is from Alan: After almost 10 years of using handheld scanners we are finally ready to deploy our new 3D scanning booth at Warley! The new scanner features almost instantenous scanning with 1/200 second capture - making small children and even pets finally possible! This equipment will revolutionise the way we create models and we can't wait to see it in action. As well as their scan, customers will also receive and email with a 3D avatar to share with their friends. Come along to our stand B47 to find out more! Before we come to all the new projects we can share at Warley, we wanted to let you know we've finally overhauled the category and navigation system on our website! You can now browse categories and sub categories of products from the main menu making it much easier to see what we offer. Categories have been organised around the Bachmann Era system. Feedback would be most welcome! Following on from our recent release of stores and cabinets scanned at Didcot we have now added workshop steps, cleaners trestles and coaling stage tubs and ramps. All 3d scanned at Didcot using Photogrammetry, these items add the finishing touches to your GWR Coaling Stage and sheds. These will be on sale in OO and O gauge at Warley We are really pleased to announce that West Hill Wagon Works will be stocking painted Modelu figures again! These will be the perfect set to compliment our J70 crew. See our stand for samples at Warley
  7. Good morning, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you about this, the coal tubs we have added to the range were done using photogrammetry. This takes about 100 pictures to produce. If yu know of any that may be residing in the south west it would make it much easier for us to produce. If you give us an email an info@modelu3d.co.uk we can discuss further. Kind regards, Chris
  8. Newsletter still continued: Thanks to Stephen Done for this superb photo of a wet cold evening waiting for the train home. Well done Stephen! You win a £25 Modelu gift voucher. 10. Good morning, I hope you have all had a good week, unfortunately I forgot to post this previously, this is last weeks newsletter. Please see the below from Alan: We've many changes afoot at Modelu driven by the arrival of our new instant 3D Scanning booth. We'll be moving office in February, designing new packaging and labels and improving our production and packing processes to ensure we get our products to you as quickly as possible. We've recently added two new super fast 3d printers to our printing farm which have already helped us to keep on top of orders and clear our backlog. Now we are preparing for Warley and hope to see you there - if you'd like to place orders for collection at the show please remember to select 'Collection' at checkout and make a note you'd like to pick up at Warley. We posted on our social media recently asking which exhibitions you would like to see us attend in 2024. Many replies suggested shows in the North of England and Scotland so we are really excited to announce that we will be attending Model Rail Scotland in Glasgow on Friday 23rd Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th February 2024! This time we'll only be attending with our brand new instant 3D scanning booth and some display models - but for those of you wishing to purchase our products we are working with a new stockist who will be present at the show. We are humbled to have been involved in this superb project from Rapido which has been receiving 5 star reviews. Rapido commissioned us to reproduce the Vicar, Bishop and Squire from the film, no small task as this would see us pushing the boundaries in order to achieve a product which would match the high standards of Rapido. We utilisied a digital sculptor to recreate likenesses of the characters, hired costumes and posed as classic scenes from the film. This was then all combined digitally, textures and colour improved before 3d printing in full colour. The figures are part of the Titfield Thunderbolt Deluxe Pack available now. Lionheart Trains new highly detailed Lyton & Barnstaple Manning Wardles can now be completed with a new crew pack. 14. Good afternoon everyone, it's the end of the month so it is newsletter time! We have lots to share once again, the below is from Alan: September has raced by and little Sylvie is growing fast and is already a month old! I really don't know where time has gone. We've had a busy month as usual with a number of developments at Modelu HQ. Earlier in the month we welcomed Alex to the team. Alex has a passion for 3D printing miniatures and brings a knowledge of table top gaming and the D&D world as well as an enthusiam for 3D scanning and Augmented Reality. Which leads me onto progress with our new and upgraded scanning capabilities! We are about to order our new 3D scanning booth which enormously upgrades our 3D scanning capabilities, including the potential to scan groups, children and pets in full colour in a matter of seconds. Our first outing with the scanner will be at Warley NEC in November and we'll be open for bookings in Bristol sometime later this month. It's been another busy month of customers visiting our studio for bespoke scans, with Dan's painting services adding the final touches and bringing the scans to life. As well as bespoke scan painting services, Dan is also now the official figure painter for our North American stockist Yarmouth Model Works! Painting can be arranged for your order with Dan directly or via the Yarmouth Model Works Website. With big thanks to the Ffestiniog Railway we are pleased to announce that we'll be attending the Bygones weekend on Saturday 7th October with our 3D scanning equipment. Set over 3 days, the Bygones weekend has an action packed schedule including unique experiences such as the gravity train demonstration and spooners boat under sail across the cob. We are really pleased to be part of the weekend, though sadly we'll only be present on the Saturday at the Harbour station. If you'd like to get 3d scanned or just join in the fun, come along and say hello! We are excited to announce that the Bluebell Railway shop at Sheffield Park is now a Modelu stockist! As well as a wide range of our crew figures and details, the Bluebell Railway stock a brand new range of figures created in partnership with staff and volunteers at the railway. Look out for our new Bluebell Station Staff pack, featuring 5 scans in LBSCR Edwardian uniform and new Dapol B4 and Dapol/Hornby Terrier crew packs captured with the assistance of crew on site. The Bluebell Railway has a reputation for attention to detail and accuracy in uniform and the staff at Sheffield Park are a fantastic example of this. Our new station pack features 5 of the volunteers in their LBSCR uniform, including porter with broom, ticket inspector, station master, signalman and a porter with a tin of brasso. Available now via our website and in the Bluebell Railway shop at Sheffield park. Thanks to the staff at the Bluebell Railway we were able to measure up the real Normandy LSWR B4 and the Dapol O and OO models in order to create a bespoke crew pack. We've two packs, the first featuring a preservation era crew with Bluebell driver James and fireman Hannah, and a second pack featuring driver and fireman suitable for the 1930s-1960s.
  15. We are slowly increasing our range of loco specific crew. Our 0900 range were designed for the Minerva pannier so should work well for any similar engines. Have put a link below for you. https://www.modelu3d.co.uk/product-category/finescale-figures/railway-and-lineside/1875-1947-rl/gwr-loco-crew/
  16. We are trying to produce more custom figures for new engines to make sure we can have a perfect fitting crew for each engine. We are aware that some of our older figures may be a bit tall for some engines, this is something we are now changing. With regards to a crew for the 16xx, Alan has a 16xx himself and we will be making a custom crew for them very soon. Please note regarding Hardies hobbies, this is from their website "Sad news: Hardy’s Hobbies is winding down a bit sooner than I had planned due to unforeseen circumstances. I am no longer able to print new items but have well stocked all OO and most O gauge figures, crews and packs. Once it is gone it is gone. " I would imagine that the inbox probably isn't as monitored as it once was. I hope this is helpful.
  17. We have some great news for you all! With prices forever going up on day to day items like milk and bread we are bucking the trend. After holding the same prices for years we have got to a point where we can offer a price DROP! Please read on below to see the products that have changed and we hope you like the news. The below is from Alan. 8 years ago we pioneered the use of 3D scanning and resin 3D printing to bring true scale and realism to details which for many years were compromised by the production methods available. Using resin printing, details such as loco lamps and point rodding were available for the first time at or near scale. These developments came at a cost, having to rely on high resolution jewelry printers and casting resins to achieve fine detail. Over the years the huge advancements in 3D printing technology have allowed for even higher levels of detail and more cost effective methods of production. With this in mind we've revisited the pricing on over 70 of our most popular detailing products with discounts of up to 50%. These apply to our range of 3D scanned loco and rolling stock lamps and our range of point rodding and cranks. We've also revisted the quantities of some of our Loco and Diesel depot details, in many cases doubling or tripling the number of items you get for the same price. Happy modelling! Our range of loco and rolling stock lamps have been 3d scanned from real lamps provided to us by heritage railways and museums across the country. Featuring loco head lamps, tail lamps and side lamps of all the main constituent companies, pre-grouping and BR, our pre-slotted lamps are provided with 5 3d printed clear or red lenses to fit. We can also provide hollow lamps upon request for fitting of LEDs. Now available at up to 50% off with prices starting at £4.50 for 5x lamps in 1:76.2 / OO and £7.50 for 5x lamps in 1:43.5 / O. Our loco crew detailing packs have been popular for adding those final touches to your super detailed locos. Featuring packs for steam locos, industrial locos, BR 1970s/80s, Modern Freight locos and a shunters detailing pack. Now available in all scales at up to 40% off, with 1:76.2 / OO packs at £4.50 and 1:43.5 / O packs at £7.50. Our true to scale point rodding has saved hours of soldering etched rodding stools, or having to compromise scale with oversized injection moulded parts. Featuring rodding for GWR, LMS, LNER, LSWR, MR and LNWR, our rodding and cranks bring the next level of realism to your track work. Our rodding stools are now provided with integral bases to make installation simpler - see the image below as modelled by John Chivers on his Shwt layout. Now available at up to 50% off with prices starting for 25 1 way stools at £4.50 in 1:76.2 / OO and £7.50 for 1:43.5. / O. ] Lastly our range of shed details has been revisted. Featuring many items of clutter 3D scanned in the sheds at Didcot Railway Centre, Bewdley and STEAM Museum, these details add the finishing touches to your MPD. Many packs now contain at least double previous quantities of items for the same price.
  18. Finally been able to get these two out their boxes tonight! Must say I am very impressed, well done Accurascale!
  19. We do also have the below figures to be released, if they sell well we can then always add more to the range
  20. That looks fantastic! Looking forward to seeing the end product!
  21. It was made by Dan from Tunnel Lane a few years ago. Takes pride of place in the office with Alans love of Barmouth.
  22. (Newsletter continued) Thanks to Rapido we are pleased to announce a new crew pack for the LMR Lion. The pack features driver and fireman depicted in 1930s uniform as worn for the LMR Centenary celebrations. Look out next month for the Victorian style uniform version as worn in the Rainhill Cavalcade in 1980. We'll be also taking the opportunity to create a new range of Victorian crews! Thanks to volunteers at Didcot we have a new crew pack for the forthcoming Rapido 15xx. Pack features driver and fireman designed with the assistance of Rapido for a perfect fit in the cab. Look out next month for the NCB crew versions Designed for the Rapido GWR Toad but suitable for any model or scale, our new GWR Toad Brake Van Pack features a goods guard, GWR tail lamp, two GWR side lamps and a guards bag. The lamps are provided with 5 white and 5 red 3D printed clear lenses to fit. Thanks to Chris' boys we've 3 new bundles of school kids/train spotters in the pipeline! Here are a few snaps to give you a taster scanned in 50s/60s school uniform and casual clothes from the 1970s/80s. We even used the boys' granddad's spotting books for extra realism! Look out for these in the Autumn.
  23. Good morning everyone, apologies for the delay but please see the newsletter below that was released last week: SYLVIE ALICE BUTTLER I'm very happy to announce that our second daughter Sylvie was born on Thurdsay 26th August happy and healthy. We are home now and getting to know our little girl who her big sister Margot already adores! August has flown by as I've been completing and handing over projects whilst preparing for my paternity leave. Our new product launches this month would not be possible without the relationships we have with some of the big manufacturers. We are hugely grateful to Accurascale, Rapido, Kernow and Heljan who share with us engineering prototypes and CAD for forthcoming and released models. This gives us an enormous help in designing bespoke figures for their products, which add the finishing touches to what are already fantastic products. We are also extremely grateful to the volunteers and staff at heritage railways that give their time to help us develop these figures. The combination of their expertise and the CAD from manufacturers that make the process of creating new poses more enjoyable than ever. At Modelu HQ, we bid farewell and good luck to Ed as he moves on to a new design job. Ed joined us in June 2022 as part of the UWE internship programme and stayed on as a full time employee focusing on CAD and scan editing. Ed's skills helped take our capabilities at Modelu up a few notches including working on design commissions, complex scan customisations and posing for many of the scans in the range. Thanks for all your hard work Ed, you'll be missed and the best of luck in your new role! Dan popped by to see us last week after working on a client's layout in Bristol. He's had a busy month with a workshop move and an impressive O gauge layout commission. Of the figures we sent to Dan this mornth, this pair was notable being a wedding cake topper for their cake. As usual Dan has done an incredible job bringing the figures to life. If you are interested in getting your figures professionally painted by Dan, you can view his prices and get in touch via our website or Dan's Facebook page. (Tunnel Lane Model Railways) Thanks to Thomas, Leigh, Alastair and Laura we had another successful scanning session at Didcot Railway Centre. Our focus on this trip were bespoke crew for Rapdio and Kernow products and coaling stage detailing components. Look out for tender and tank engine coaling tubs and coaling stage ramps being added into the range soon! Crew and Passenger packs will shortly be available for the beautiful Kernow GWR Railmotor. Firstly our crew pack features driver, fireman and guard, pre-cut to the right height to fit the false floor in the unit. Our second pack features 5 passengers in Edwardian clothing pre-cut to the seats and floor. Both these packs will be available un-cut for other scales or kit built versions. We've a long list of people to thank for this one and it's been quite a journey - ever since I happened to be at Didcot on the day the railmotor was 3D laser scanned long before I dreamt of Modelu. Firstly thanks go to Graham Muspratt at Kernow for loan of a unit and interior CAD which enabled us to make the precise cuts in CAD before printing. And from the Didcot Railway Centre thanks to Leigh and Alastair who gave us access to the real Railmotor. And finally thanks to Thomas and the volunteers at Didcot for dressing up in their Edwardian clothing on a balmy afternoon in July!
  24. On the page you would have ordered from it says: "The model will represent 37714 in the Railfreight Metals livery in an unnamed condition. All models will be supplied sparately with Cardiff Canton nameplates and Cardiff depot plaques in the box."
  25. Are there many differences between Odney manor and the production run of Torquay manor? Looking at a renumber job I think.
