  4. Bespoke crew made for this loco will be released very soon
  5. My 7802 arrived into the office this afternoon, I have been good and held off opening so far...
  6. We are trying to do some figures for RTR models that have been out for a while, it is just making sure we can get our hands on the engines to test fit. Will be keeping an eye on this layout, looks good!
  7. We have a couple of days at Didcot Railway Centre, really excited with what we can add to the range!
  8. We have one to put a crew into, has anybody any advice for getting into the cab? We have taken the body shell off but struggling a little
  9. Thank you for your comment, we have looked into the problem. It is also something that we will be keeping a very close eye on. We are also in a very fortunate position that we have become more well known, hopefully this means if someone is indeed sharing the files it has more chance of getting back to us.
  10. We've added a 12 pack of seagulls for your seaside and dockside scenes. The pack includes 5 seagulls on water, 5 standing and 2 flapping their wings. Available in all scales via the website. West Hill Wagon Works have kindly given us a number of their superb depot interior detailing kits for us to make bespoke figures for. The first of which is this set for their Wagon works 15ton Lifting Jack. The pack features 3 operators wearing boiler suits and bump hats and hard hats. Thanks to Chris Field from the SVR for his assistance in creating the scans. Whilst Chris visited us to capture the lifting jack scans, we also created a number of new fitter and shunter poses for modern image depots. These two new packs feature fitters inspecting, using a torque wrench and at rest, and a shunter pack featuring a shunter calling on with bardic lamp and a shunter using a radio. Thanks to feedback from a number of customers we've updated the straight arm water crane design. We've now added a bolted flange version as well as the earlier (pre-1900?) filleted type flange as per the GWR engineering drawings in the GWR Journal. August sees us return to Didcot for the first time in a year for a 2 day new product scanning session! On our to do list will be a figure pack for the forthcoming Kernow Rail Motor, Edwardian passengers, Rapido 15xx and 45xx crew and a wealth of new shed and depot details.
  11. Good afternoon all, with all this rain recently we would love to cheer you up with a newsletter from Alan! We've had a busy month thanks to the wet weather, with new product developments, new collaborations and piloting our Patreon subscription. We've also been working on upgrading our 3D scanning capabilities and looking at photogrammetry. Photogrammetry is a widely used method of 3D scanning using overlapping photographs of the subject taken from different angles. Whilst this can be achieved using a single camera or even your mobile phone, using multiple cameras at the same time allows for almost instantaneous 3d scan capture. This is a capability I've been looking to achieve at Modelu almost since I started back in 2015. In pursuit of this goal we visited a company in Amsterdam who use a portable 3d scanning rig. Scans take a few seconds to capture and we were shown samples of scans of young children, pets, or whole families together. For now we are still looking at options, but all being well this could be the future of our scanning at Modelu and exhibitions. We're excited to announce that after a successful pilot our new Modelu Patreon subscription is now live! Patreon is a subscription based service where subscribers receive a monthly download of 5 figures to print on their own 3d printers. As well as 5 monthly figures, new subscribers can also choose from 1 of 7 welcome packs to get another 5 figures to get them started. Each month we generate a poll where subscribers can shape the type of content they will receive in the monthly release. As well as our subscription service, we've also added a new STL Store to the Modelu website where you can piurchase packs of figure STL files without becoming a subscriber. Subscribers get a discount on the STL Store as part of their benefit package. For more information see our Patreon page or drop us an email. Please note that printing of the figures is for personal use only. We're pleased to announce Yarmouth Model Works will be the first stockist in North America to stock our figures. YMW will be stocking our North American range in HO and some 1:48, though you will be able to order anything from the range. We are hugely grateful to Pierre Oliver for facilitating this! Thanks to Hunter Hughson for the super promo shot. In a new monthly feature we pay a visit to Dan Evason's busy figure painting workbench. Dan has been professionally painting Modelu figures since taking it up full time in lock down and offers a complete figure painting service, alongside commission work of buildings, dioramas and layouts. You can also see his monthly how-to articles in Hornby Magazine, This month has seen Dan painting a 1/12th Ghost Buster figure after a chap visited us for a scan in the Spring, alongside couples, children and retirement gifts! Variety certainly is the spice of life. If you are interested in getting your figures professionally painted by Dan, you can view his prices and get in touch via our website or Dan's Facebook page. We're pleased to announce the first of a new series of collaborations with Rapido. The first of these is a set for the new SECR 6 Wheel brake van. Set includes a guard (Andy Hardy himself!), two side lamps and a tail lamp with 5 red and 5 clear 3d printed lenses to fit. Shown here painted by Dan Evason. Look out for crews for the beautiful new LMR Lion, GWR 15xx, LNER Dynamometer Car and more in the coming months. Thanks to the staff and volunteers at Sheffield Park station we will shortly have a new range of figurines suitable for pre-grouping and grouping era layouts. These test prints show LBSCR station staff including Station Master, Signal Man, Ticket Inspector and Porter. Look out for news of their availability next month.
  12. I know we don't usually venture to this part of the forum but we thought some people may be interested to know that we now have some of our figures available in STL form via Patreon or via our website. If you are a member of our Patreon you can get a discount on our website STL files. Patreon link: https://www.patreon.com/modelu3d Modelu downloadable figures: https://www.modelu3d.co.uk/product-category/downloadable-models/ If you do decide to join our Patreon we would for you to comment that you found out through RMWeb. Many thanks for reading.
  13. If we are starting this off as a game then I am 31. Have 3 manors on order 7802, 7812 and 7820. Having only seen them in preservation I couldn't resist. Also got engaged on the footplate of 7820 before COVID.
  14. It's all part of the image that won, fully recommend looking up Terrific Trains on Facebook or Instagram to see more of his work. He has recently started moving over to O gauge from OO.
  15. We now have 3 different cat bundles you can choose from, or treat yourself to all 3 if you want to move them around from time to time. The water cranes are live on the website, please see link below: https://www.modelu3d.co.uk/product-category/detailing-components/water-columns/ We will get some measurements sorted out next week for you.
  16. Happy Friday everyone! We have had a busy week this week with the first batches of water cranes being shipped off and more new products incoming. I may drop some images over the weekend of a couple of bits we have been up to that I'm sure will interest you all! Before that though lets get on with another newsletter... Last month we released our first Cameo Pack of 3 figures for our Modeller of the Month Competition, the winning image being from Steven Draper. Following on from the success of the first pack we've added 3 more to the range. These packs are at 33% off the individual figure price so are an ideal option to add some interest to a scene in your diorama or layout. They feature a pack of 5 childen, a pack of 3 people in some sort of situation (use your imagination!), and 3 people shopping. We love to see the stories people create with our figures, so please remember to share your scenes with us to be in with a chance of winning a £25 voucher and Modeller of the Month! We've added two new packs of cats and kittens to our range of animals. The packs feature a cat walking on a wall/fence, cat drinking milk and two cats together. The kitten pack features two kittens playing, a kitten and ball of wool and a cat and kitten together. That is all for now, although I only work Monday to Friday I do try to be a responsive as possible out of office time for you all.
  17. Just for you, this is how they get sent out with supports still attached. Each piece that needs slotting together then has a male and female component. To quote Stephen Fay: "Great western water crane from Modelu, these are a game changer, 3D printed parts that simply slot into each other. I’ve got another pair to build and they do a fire devil. Very minimal cleaning up of components. Definitely my product of the week, product of the year I reckon!"
  18. Thank you Nick, I believe this is what Alan was referring to when he wrote the newsletter
  19. Sorry for the delay in responding to your comment. I appreciate the comments you have made and think I have replied to them all below. We will get some measurements and I will pop them up on here. At the moment we wont be offering that as an option but we do have 6 different variants available so should be enough for everyone. The cranes come as a set of parts that couldn't be easier to put together. So if you aren't after a base then there is no need to use it. We will be adding the fire devils to the range on their own soon, I will pass on about the draining options. I will pass the coal bunker idea on to our 3D designer in the office!
  20. Here is the reason that the roof was taken off. Really nice model. Top work Rapido!
  21. Ever wondered how Rapido get such a good finish to the paint on the Toad wagons? We have found the answer! It appears that I didn't put the roof back on correctly after getting an image of the inside of the wagon.
  22. As part of our shed staff range we've added a new crew pack featuring driver and fireman booking on. Both figures are shown having been to stores to collect their allocated tools and equipment, including loco and cynlinder oil cans, oil feeder, tool bucket and firing shovel. Shown here using the Scale Model Scenery Engine Arrangements board. Do to popular demand we've created a new set of painters using the scans from our Depot Staff pack. We've also added a sign writer, posed by master sign writer himself Brian McCulloch! Thanks Brian! Available now in a pack of 3. Featured here with the new Rapido GWR Toad. Following on from our recent SR Engine Head Signals a number of customers have requested the LNER/GER versions. These are now available in packs of 5 on the website.
  23. Good morning everyone! Managed to find some time to get this sent to yourself before the mailing list, hope you enjoy, lots more releases incoming! Welcome to the Modelu July Newsletter! To kick off the month we had a superb weekend at the Bluebell Railway Model Railway Event, with us set up in the shop at Sheffield Park with our scanning kit. The guys there couldn't be more helpful in providing us with locomotives to pair up with crews. Being able to see the real thing and get insight from the crews who drive them was invaluable. We've plans afoot with the Bluebell to produce a complete range of pre-grouping station staff after scanning a constant stream of volunteers in SR and LBSCR clothing. Look out for updates in our forthcoming newsletters! Our People In Conversation competition didn't get a huge number of entries, but those we had were exceptional. With such a high standard of figure painting it has a hard decision to pick a winner, but in the end it was the expert skills of Steven Draper that most caught our eye. Steven has presented the figures here in O gauge, painstakingly painted in oils, to give a wonderful finish. The scene is titled: "Go on Jack - Race her to Callington" Well done Steven, you've won a £25 voucher and Modelu Modeller of the Month for June! You can see more of Steven's work from his 'miniverse' on Facebook and Instagram, please search the name Terrific Trains. We are pleased to announce that we've added the first of a new range of Water Cranes to the website. This first launch features 6 variants of the distinctive GWR Water Crane, including cranked and straight arms, platform and ground mounts and short or standard length arms. Available now in 4mm and 7mm with N, TT and 3mm to follow. The packs include a fire devil and options for drainage including a hopper or drain cover. With our attendance at the Bluebell Railway Model Weekend we thought it about time to create a crew for a favourite loco of ours which is based there. 9017 was the first ever preserved steam locomotive and the only member of the Dukedog class to be saved, being delivered to the Bluebell in 1961 from Oswestry. We've now designed a new Dukedog crew specifically for the Bachmann model, though you will find these suitable for many other GWR classes. Modelu customer Tobi Johnson and his father helped us out with our colour Accurascale Manor scans a few months back. Whilst they were with us we captured a few other poses, including this new set of crew figures preparing a top link service. They include a driver oiling up, a fireman fitting headboard and a cleaner holding a headboard and tool bucket. These are a great little set for a shed scene cameo! Thanks to Fox Transfers for the headboard - please note that it is not included in the pack!
  24. I have a day off tomorrow so I am off to a local (ish) model shop to pick up my toad. Very excited to see it in person after seeing the pictures!
  25. Feel free to give me a PM when you need some help. Kind regards, Chris
