  1. All this discussion of Lord Willoughby and his railway reminded of a piece of music by the Elizabethan composer John Dowland. The piece, My Lord Willoughby's Welcome Home I saw performed by the late Julian Bream at the Sydney Town Hall in 1969.I remember Bream in his introduction to the piece saying that Lord Willoughby was not home very often but when he was quite a fuss was made of him. Was Dowland's Willoughby an ancestor of the one who owned the railway I wonder?
  2. As the D of A thread is now closed I am posting this response from Hattons here: Good Afternoon Ron, Thank you for your email. We have been set an allocated amount from Hornby for the R3819, of which all of our pre-orders are included. As such there should be no issue in us being able to fulfill your order. I hope this helps, if you do have any more questions then please do not hesitate to ask. Kind Regards Colleen
  3. Perhaps not a silk purse but a very nice leather wallet.
  4. Very sad to hear this. I have built many of his kits and had the great pleasure of meeting him at the Newcastle show in 2013. A great loss to NER modellers. My sincere condolences to his family.
  5. The real problem seems to be that the front walkway does not connect with walkway from the cabin door.So how are the front windows accessed for cleaning? Through an open window perhaps?
  6. Jesse, try De-Luxe Glue and Glaze to fix clear plastic to the window frames. I found it much easier than contact adhesive for this purpose.
  7. "Left is Left, and Right is Right, and never the trains shall meet". Norden and Muir would have been proud of him!
  8. Tut,tut. Visible tight radii going on/offstage on man (sic) lines always compromise realism.....
  9. I believe he is an Egg Carton Manufacturing Executive!
  10. Jesse I agree with John. Take off as much as you can with a scraper, then go over it with the burnishing disc and finish with a fibreglass pencil. Thanks Doug for the link-have just ordered ten.
  11. Good work Jesse. D&S ex-GNR full brake I presume ?
  12. Very sobering-thirty percent of men die before 70, another 10% by 75 and another 10% by 80! Fortunately women don't reach 50% dead until 85. Good that they will be around to dispose of the fruits of our indulgences.
  13. All Hattons' pre-orders taken.
  14. Two recent sales on Ebay.D&S NER 12 wheel Dining Car 93GBP and NER Clerestory 3rd 70GBP. I was tempted by the Dining Car but Ebay's outrageous International shipping costs and import duty (which does not apply!) made resistance easy
  15. Perhaps an ex-NER clerestory. Some did migrate to the GE section.
  16. Doug, So sorry to read your sad news. My sincere condolences. Ron.
  17. If that is the case it will be no disappointment to be there to witness such an historic and unprecedented? result.
  18. I'll be there with my usual group of ten on Saturday.
  19. Thanks John looks like rule 1if I do make the investment.
  20. John, The crane looks magnificent. When was the red livery introduced? I prefer it to the black but suspect it may be too late for my period, so I suppose rule1 may have to be invoked.
  21. I have and play his music from time to time. My favourite piece is Caprico Arabe. Classical music is about beauty of sound (particularly classical guitar), so the whistle version of Mr P's Canon fails miserably.
  22. Jesse, 0.45mm nickel silver wire and handrail knobs from Wizard Models will do the job. I see Tony beat me to the punch!
