  1. 34046 Braunton 13/08/60. 34103 Calstock 09/62. 34044 Woolacombe 07/55. 34041 Wilton 8/56, 7/58, 8/59. (plus other locos on the list at different dates such as Crewkerne 8/59 etc). 34110 66 Squadron 7/57. 34044 and 34110 are the only others i can find in the 50s. Thanks for sharing your Dads list jack, seeing Swanage in 1958 is great, i was not shure if she ran the line or only the time it was diverted via Salisbury. Paul.
  2. Great looking loco. I have been adding all the detailing parts to my Bachmann 4Fs, 3Fs, and & 7Fs this week, plus crews and coal. I have to agree they are fantastic locos for the S&D. I have a Hornby 2P as well, runs like a dream. The Johnson 1P will be a interesting S&D model.
  3. A quick update. After bending out the drawbar contacts on the loco and i must admit i also cut out the feed wires in the tender, it is running really well. What a powerful loco it is, hardly any speed difference from my inclines to the flat sections. I have added all the details (the brake pipes were missing so had to order those from Peters Spares), real coal, fire irons and crew. I have learnt from this, i need to take time to understand how these models work and what can go wrong, after this past week i have a lot of respect for the manufacturers, these trains are a work of art, really well made and a bargain for the price really. Thanks for all your advice, im sure i will have more questions soon.
  4. Fair enough, i was a bit angry and perhaps pointing it in the wrong direction.
  5. I grew up in Blandford, if the loco does not work for me you are welcome to have it free of charge being a Blandfordian.
  6. After my last post i stomped up into the loft with the hump. I bent out the 2 lower fine pins and the loco is running good now. Lets see how it goes, thank you to everyone who has posted, i really appriciate your time, i must say i am losing faith with Hornby, my Bachmann 4fs leave them miles behind, but that may just me being annoyed.
  7. Crikey, what have i let myself in for? Its do or die time, i can either return the train to Hattons bought "S/H like new" or start cutting stuff out. Im temted to cut the tender stuff out to see if DavidCBroad solution works, if not it will have to sit in a siding. I have notice the tender connection is the same as on the Hornby West country class and ive never had a problem with those.
  8. Very informative post, thank you. What you describe about the extra drag makes a lot of sense as when i started running the loco in it seemed fine the problems started when i attached some coaches then it just got worse. Currently i have put a piece of insulation tape on the pickup bar on the tender and its working better, not 100% though. I do have a good Megger multimeter so i could check for the short or continuity but not sure how to do it. Thanks for the replies everyone, much appriciated. Paul.
  9. Hi Russ, i have had a look through my Ivo Peters books and found 3 pictures of DMUs working excursions over the S&D it states "The first DMU to run on the S&D was a three car DMU organized by the Gloucestershire Railway society on the 10th of May 1958". It does not mention the class and has a flat white line above the cab, no yellow and speed whiskers. The other DMU is dated 25th May 1958 It does not say the class again but has a curved white line above the cab, no yellow and with speed whiskers. The third photo dated 21st August 1960 is like the first train, flat white line and speed whiskers.
  10. I have to do a bit of research on these trains as all new to me but i could see those SR class 33 running re-introduced goods and summer Saturday only passenger trains from Bath. That would be a great idea.
  11. I have noticed today that the loco does run better up my inclines with the tender off, very interesting.
  12. I will have a good try at everything before i take drastic action, thank you.
  13. DC layout, so may rip out as you say, its odd though i cant work out where the short is, seems to happen on corners. 40% increase? Thank you for your reply.
  14. Hi Ian Thank you for taking the time to add this, i have had a read and find it really interesting, seems i could have a whole new hobby adding trains that may have run the S&D since closure. I have ordered a Bachmann 150 in RR Sprinter livery but may not stop at that, might add a train for the 70s, 90s etc, etc. Now i wonder what might have run a re introduced Pines express a GWR HST maybe???? Thanks again for taking the time to reply i really appriciate it. Paul.
  15. Hello everybody, I am looking for advice again. I recently bought a Hornby 8F loco drive that seems to have a short in the tender, the loco works fine without the tender attached. I have tried to insulate the pin witch seems to help a bit, does anyone have experiance of this? I am thinking of cutting the wires in the tender as a last resort. Thanks Paul.
  16. I noticed the lack of corridor connections, was going to ask but ive been asking a lot of questions already, i am still none the wiser.
  17. I used to work at Shillingstone station in 1986- 1988 and wanted to run a train on my layout that might have taken me to work if the railway still operated. Ian, do you think this is about as close as i could get? https://www.hattons.co.uk/484655/bachmann_branchline_32_928_po07_class_150_1_2_car_dmu_150150_in_br_regional_railways_sprinter_livery_weathered_/stockdetail.aspx Paul.
  18. Thanks Bernard, if you dont mind me asking, what RTR models would these be?
  19. Thank you Ian, its pointing towards the 150 as you said yesterday then, regional livery? Thanks for the input everyone.
  20. Ah, see i told you i knew nothing about diesels. I had a look at the Hornby 155 class that you mentioned. So i should be looking at a 155 or 150? My layout is a out and back single dumbell type so a multiple unit would be nice to save having to run around.
  21. Thanks Ian, 1 last question if i may, do you think regional railways livery would be suitable? I know they ran to Bristol Temple Meads. I model the section from Templecombe to Broadstone so no tunnels on that part of the route to worry about. Paul.
  22. Would something like this be about right? https://www.hattons.co.uk/486707/bachmann_branchline_31_500_po04_class_158_2_car_dmu_158791_unit_a_57779_unit_b_52791_in_regional_railways_blue_/stockdetail.aspx
  23. Thank you already for the replies, i would be looking for a local service and i know nothing about non steam so sorry for my all my questions.
  24. Hi all, I have a S&D layout that has trains that cover 1900ish to 1966 at closure. I would like to run a train as if the line was still operating in the late 1980s. I presume it would be a DMU or diesel loco. I would be interested in RTR models that you folk might think are suitable. Odd question maybe but i would like to know what people think, i am talking about between Templecombe and Bournemouth West.
  25. Hi Barry, if you look at the paints by the Bulleid pacific in the 1st photo they are the ones you recommended to me. Very good they are too,i water them down and spread thinly, give a lovely finish. Thanks.
