  1. Hi Mark, thank you, i will watch for your progress with this. Thanks again. Paul.
  2. With so much time at home work on Shillingstone continues, platforms and office started, even had my first go at weathering a loco.
  3. Started building the office and cattle dock area this week, was going to make a site visit to photograph all this but Shillingstone station is shut of course at the moment so using photos i can find on the web. Going to spend the weekend filling and painting the brick wall for a better backdrop.
  4. Its so nice to see the work they put into these things, the quality of the engineering brickwork and iron work. I love the old footbridge at Blandford known to the locals as the iron bridge, spent my youth growing up around that thing.
  5. I have been trying to think of a way to edge platforms like this but alas i dont have a 3d printer. They look really good.
  6. I have got so into my modelling that i realised i forgot to post the plan up, bit late now as i have the basic track in place. The real station soon, will have a siding behind the signal box up to the cattle dock as i have laid here. I have a existing point up at the bridge and im not sure what to do with it, as its not going to be on the restored station. Do i take it out, run a extra siding or loop it into the other siding as it was in the 1960s? To add, this is not to scale i am just using my eye for the layout, i might get it wrong again.
  7. The fact that Evening Star pulled a stopping 3 coach service through such wonderful countryside fills me with awe. I stand at locations such as the bridge at Durweston and imagine it passing over, must have been such a sight.
  8. Started laying the track to the South of the station, adding the new siding to the up platform as it is today. Got to say, putting track down with the sleepers cut is a tad more difficult but looks ok, time will tell.
  9. I took up the old platforms today, took ages to make and secounds to rip out. I have been thinking about making the track look as good as i can, after research decided moving to P4 (edit, I was refering to EM gauge, as a layman modeller i didnt know the difference until another poster told me the difference) was a bit too much effort (a future project for sure) and have decided to stick with 00 gauge and space the sleepers in bull head style. The big decision now is do i stick with code 100? i have loads already, plenty to finish the project or move to code 75 for the slimmer rail, my heart is saying 75, my head/ wallet is saying 100. Following the current plan of Shillingstone it will have 3 sidings, i will post up a plan soon. Tried spacing, my fav is the one with the pencil line about 5.5mm.
  10. The more i get into this hobby the more i like the look of p4, i have such a large collection of 00 gauge though it would be a nightmare. They look great.
  11. Hi everyone, I thought i would start a thread about my plans to re build Shillingstone on this forum as i dont want to keep clogging up the blog section or the Somerset and Dorset forum. I built the layout 2 years ago when i got back into the hobby, used Metcalfe platforms and the Bachmann buildings set and attempted to model the layout as it was in the 1960s. I made lots of mistakes with point work, clearances etc.(laying and ballasting before i checked everything fitted). I am going to model it as it is today, they are still laying track so to early to start trackwork yet but i want to get the best out of the space i have 10 feet x 16 inches. I am going to use Peco code 100 with electrofrog points, motors etc. I will re use the Bachmann set but scratch build the platforms and other buildings as needed, the goods shed will have to go but can be re used somewhere else in the loft. I would appriciate any help or advice on the track plan and maybe ways i can do it slightly different to make shunting etc a bit more interesting. The current layout runs from single line South of the station to the road bridge 180 just to the North again single line. I will be using photos from the Shillingstone group FB blog to work from plus site visits to photograph. Thanks Paul.
  12. Its time to say goodbye to my Shillingstone station layout. It was the first thing i built when getting back into the hobby and i made quite a few mistakes with clearances and point work. I used Metcalfe platforms and the Bachmann station set. I am going to re build it as it will be in 2020 as preserved. I will scratch build the platforms and learn from my mistakes. I have a new train to work on it, it needs re painting to match DS1169. I may be asking questions on the forum for this. Meanwhile, Sturminster Newton is coming along, been ballasting and weathering recently.
  13. In 1986 when i was 16 i worked at Intasco next to Shillingstone station. Loved the old station and i used to try and walk the line but it was so overgrown it was impossible. Loved Stourpaine and Duweston halt to for the same reasons. I saw some photos today of Shillingstone, and my they have come on, what a wonderful thing, i never thought i would see the day.
  14. Hi andy, small 00 gauge layout 5ftx1ft designed to fit on top of a piano, old schoolclassic stuff circa 1965.
  15. Mine as i say will be loft locked on a shelf around chest height, so the fiddle yard at the back may be a problem and it has crossed my mind before. look forward to reading your thread.
  16. Thank you Pacific 231B, that looks great. I have a 00 gauge loft layout and this is a move to 0 guage, maybe just a 3f jinty and a pannier with 1 coach and a few wagons. i would like to get more into scratch building and the finer details i could do in 0 gauge. Maybe i should start a new thread. thank you.
  17. Thank you Nearholmer, I presume you mean 2nd radius points and yes i have 10 ft.
  18. Hello everybody, I dont want to hijack this thread but ive been thinking of doing this layout in 0 gauge. I have 10 feet by 2 feet available, does anyone think this will work with Peco code 124 bullhead track and points? (the points look a tad large to me). Thanks.
  19. Lovely little loco that is, i really like your web site as well.
  20. They look great, looking forward to seeing some paint. I have just recently got into kit wagon building and i love all the extra bits that people do to the kits.
  21. Great work, really interesting. It looks much better. Thank you.
  22. Link works fine, must have been a problem at my end. Great film, nice to see close up workings and safety measures. Some lovely shots of 53810 thanks for posting.
