  1. A great place to start a layout, C J Freezer said much the same years ago. I started my layout the same way and it has moved on from there but still has a element of the preserved railway on it. Its your world to do as you please.
  2. As the embankment runs down into Sturminster Newton it goes around a curve, i was going to put a curved backdrop around it but then decided to fill the corner with some modelled polystyrene. The section just lifts out so i can model it on the bench, thought it gave the area a bit more depth. Be nice to hear what other modellers think. I also had my Velux fitted at last by my good mate Polish Mat (who is also a big model railway fan), he did the work on a Sunday and did a fantastic job, its made such a difference to the loft, just in time for winter.
  3. Very useful links those, the Templecombe one especially for me. Thank you.
  4. I love the wire on the telegrath poles, what did you use? Ratio poles i presume.
  5. Looks great, mines a Guiness and a pickled egg.
  6. I was having a look at the old station location on google maps this morning, seems theres an old bridge there, must admit i did not know about that one, must go and have a look next time i am down. Thanks again. https://www.google.com/maps/@50.8460746,-2.1579287,3a,60y,225.17h,86.91t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sz9-579Qfu-6-RJyZiNTIVg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
  7. Yes, i see that, on the part thats now long buried, makes sense. Thank you.
  8. Thank you, A mile to the south of Blandford? thats some distance, "a lane that led to the downs" im trying to think where that may be, close to the current bypass maybe? I am really interested in where the 1st station may have been as i have never seen any record of it.
  9. Sorry to butt in again, but does anyone have any info on the 1st Blandford station that was in Blandford st Mary when the line ran to Wimbourne? I have been unable to find anything on the internet. If you guys dont know then i guess nobody does.
  10. My Bachmann Wickham trolly arrived today, its so small i cant believe its got a motor in it. Have not tried it yet as you could bake bread in my loft at the moment, should have a Velux in soon just in time for winter.
  11. http://www.shillingstone-railway-project.org.uk/historic.php Not good quality and you cannot see the stock but its the only photo i could think of in your time of interest.
  12. I know next to nothing about the early days of the S&D and i find these posts fascinating , thank you. To think that 120+ years ago you could get from Spetisbury to Templecombe quicker than you could today shows how we have gone backwards in many ways. You have probably all seen it but there is a photo of a train on the Shillingstone station page from 1898.
  13. That looks really good, top luck with the show.
  14. I think i have found another picture of this location by Ivo in Somerset and Dorset in the sixties part 3 1960 to 1962 picture 73 looking Northbound on the Milldown.
  15. Just to let anyone know who might be interested in any Scale link products, that i got a letter with my order stating the owner is 80 now and plans to retire next year. Stock and moulds etc are up for sale. If you want any items best get them soon. He has been making this stuff since 1972.
  16. I made a halt with Dart Castings supports, i had to wait a while for mine as well, send them an email i think its a hobby business so can take some time. I made the platform tops from 40 thou Plastikard.
  17. Nice one Jack, I did presume that the fact there was Wickham trolly huts meant Wickham trollys, Bachmann or not.
  18. Hi Worsdsell, Thank you so much for your reply. I will try to remove the crankpin and update. Thanks again for all your comments.
