  1. On DC I used a simple wire brush arrangement I bought years ago, but getting to work with DCC locos seems very unreliable. What do others do to clean wheels efficiently?
  2. I've used pritt stick type for some bits, rocket card glue for others and occasionally uhu type stuff.
  3. Andrew, thanks for sign posting the replacement parts. That is incredibly helpful as I couldn't find it for love nor money in my searches. And thanks to others for your suggestions - yes, it had been repaired by a previous owner, but looks past resurrection in my opinion. M
  4. Good evening, I'm wondering if anyone can offer any advice on sourcing a replacement for the cable that plugs in to the 'track out' of the power box that works with a multimaus. The 2 pronged connector has.... Erm.. come apart. I can't find anything on their website and searching online is proving fruitless, but I suspect that as I don't know what it's called it's not helping. I'm sure I could even make one if I just knew where to source the prong connectors from. TIA.
  5. Amazing work all round; often can't tell if I'm looking a model or the real thing!
  6. Cheers Ray, The water effect you have there is lovely.
  7. A change in domestic circumstances should have meant more time for modelling, but as usual there have been other demands that have had a greater priority. However, I did manage to start the water side of things after watching some very informative You Tube videos. I wasn't happy with the paint colouration of the first attempts, but the general water like finish that using PVA gave was pretty good. When I get some more time, I'm looking at over painting the PVA with acrylics to improve the colour blending as at the moment it's a bit pants. I also would like to put some wooden fender posts in place too to break up the concrete facing. P.S still not happy with the crate colours..
  8. Adrian, regarding an earlier post about emulating real life events, I was wrong in this case. I checked yesterday and the Metal box building is still standing strong albeit looking a little different. The building that is being demolished backs on to Lavington St. M
  9. Evening experienced people of DCC, I have a 2nd hand Hornby 08 which I want to chip, but I can't work out what sort I need. Ideally I'd like to fit a TTS module, but they appear to be like hen's teeth so will make do with just getting it running without sound. Any idea which if I need a 6 or 8 pin decoder? Cheers M
  10. Glad to hear the key bits have been saved. I agree with you though, it's a bit of a dilemma what to do next with them. A local museum may appreciate them; local history and all that. I think you may have emulated reality with the metal box building as I think they have just it pulled down - certainly a building on that side has gone - I must check in detail next week. As for Westerham, phew! 😁
  11. It's a bitter sweet thing seeing the destruction. Working in the area for a long time and reading story I have been in awe of the way you had replicated the buildings; I hope some of the structures have been saved. However, I'm sure whatever you go to do will be just as well done, and as interesting; I was captivated by the way you described the building/story of Westerham and this was an area I knew little about.
  12. Great stuff. Good idea regarding building it for ease of transport. Nice to see the particularly ineffective anti trespass witches hats modelled; were scratch built or from a manufacturer?
  13. The addition of the DB 08 gives a splash of different colour. On a different subject, I notice you're using a multimaus. How do you find it?
  14. Not much going on at the moment. I've been trying to get some of the smaller details painted, but have had limited success. Finally got a paint blend I'm happy with for the new wooden crates, but can get it to adhere to the plastics very well! Still uming and erring over a crane; not seen anything I like in a price range I think is acceptable..
  15. By the way, both gas holders at Waddon have now been dismantled. This picture was taken in December when the last was being brought down.
  16. Lovely pictures of the token machine; they look like something off of Dr Who!
  17. Great work on the building. The different colour between the arch lintels and the rest of brickwork is not a problem. I often see real building which have differences like that. I imagine the running issues are a real pain. It's something I have suffered on occasions, but I've never thought the controller would be an issue. I suppose a way to rule it out is to run locos on a separate piece of track and see how they perform. Some other things to think of. Did it work well before you painted the track sides? I notice you have some inset track. Are the problems all over? Or do they occur more in the areas where the inset track is? I've found some issues where I've got wills setts butting up to the outside edge of a running rail. In some places it was a smidgen above the height of the rail and causing the wheels to lift ever so slightly. Another to look at is your power feed connections. You say you've wired the layout to live at all times - have you looked at your main connection?
