  1. Kernow are already sold out of the Scotrail one on preorder! I managed to order one from TMC.
  2. According to my 1971 Ian Allan Combined Volume none of 7660-7669 were dual braked. Neither was 7674, although 7675 was. I'm not sure how accurate this is, though.
  3. I ran my DCC sound equipped one on our club layout on Sunday. Same problems with the pickups as some have reported. I'll have a go at adjusting them, but have in any case ordered a Stay Alive from Road and Rail. It does look good when it's going! A colleague had a DCC ready one along as well and his also has pickup problems...
  4. Scottish modellers of a certain vintage will possibly remember the notorious Jimmy Glassford who had a shop in Cambridge Street in Glasgow. Without a doubt the rudest shopkeeper I have ever met! Mentioned here Jimmy Glassford
  5. Thanks, but 1961 is a RUB Kitchen only. RBR is 1666 and any photos I've seen show it unbranded and with its BR number E1666. I'll have to use modellers licence I think!
  6. I'm currently making up a rake of 4mm Mk 1 coaches to represent a typical WCR rake. Mk 1 RTR models are in the pipeline from Bachmann (plus Mk 2 from Accurascale) but there is no indication when they will be available, so I'm converting Hornby Mk 1s. The bogies are wrong (should be Commonwealth and the Hornby Commonwealths aren't available as a spare, but I'll get round that) but the main thing I want to sort out the lettering. I've removed the Hornby numbers from a TSO and put on West Coast branding and numbering and it looks OK. I have however a RBR to sort out but any photos I've found of them don't show any with WCR branding. Can anyone help? Thanks.
  7. I assume mine must be on the way. The inaccuracies aren't a major consideration for me, as to run it on our club layout I'm creating the fiction that it wasn't scrapped in 1960 but was instead preserved. I can, however, understand that others may not be happy!
  8. That would appear to be the case. 🙄 Better think up a Plan B! Thanks 🙂
  9. Does such a thing exist? I want to rebogie some recent Mk 1s. Bachmann do them, but do Hornby and if so, where can I get some?
  10. I will shortly be building some 4mm scale Comet coach kits and will be attempting to paint them myself. I'm looking for recommendations for a suitable airbrush set for a beginner. I want a reasonable one, but don't want to spend £££. I have an ancient Humbrol one, but it looks pretty crude and uses an aerosol propellant which I suspect will be difficult to replace. Thanks in advance!
  11. Thanks. Might explain why the lights don't work!
  12. Can some kind person advise me what the location of pin 1 on the NEMA socket is? My elderly eyes can't make it out 😟 Thanks.
  13. Small point - as ex LMS vehicles shouldn't the numbers have a "M" suffix?
  14. I'm in the process of converting my Hornby HST set to Kadee couplers. The coaches are a doddle having NEM pockets, but do the power cars have these? A quick look suggests that they don't.
  15. I've a 2+4 Scotrail Hornby HST set but want to add an additional trailer to convert it to a 2+5. Are any transfers available to renumber a trailer to Coach E?
  16. Many thanks! Just what I needed to know.
  17. I have just bought a Heljan class 27 with the recess in the cabside for the Mansons tablet apparatus. The loco is 5357 (27011) which spent its entire life based at Eastfield. Would it in real life have had the recess? I assume that Inverness based locos would have been so equipped, as the HML between Perth and Inverness used the Manson apparatus into the mid/late 1960s.
  18. David L Smith's "Tales of the Glasgow and South Western" has a number of anecdotes about incidents working unfitted freights over the steeply graded Girvan to Stranraer line. I have an old 1950s BR publication "Point to point timings of freight trains" which gives the times allowed between two stations for different classes of freight train. Several times it shows extra allowances for stopping to pin down wagon brakes.
  19. I've fitted a Hornby HST with DCC sound decoders. Should the unpowered car have the same address as the powered car?
  20. I visited today. Really enjoyed myself and caught up with a couple of old friends from the Glasgow & West of Scotland MRC - hi Archie and Robert! Got slightly depressed when I realised that the first Model Rail I attended as an exhibitor was more than 50 years ago
  21. Many thanks for the replies. I'n going to Model Rail Scotland tomorrow so I'll take a look around.
  22. I'm planning to buy an LMS 50' full brake. Both Bachmann and Hornby produce RTR models. The Hornby one is more expensive, but I'd like any opinions about which is the best model. I'll be rewheeling it to EM, so it's the quality of the body and underframe which matters.
