  1. I've changed the decoder from the Lais to an Imperium 1. Despite them apparently being the same decoder, the step lights and search lights now work! I'll now have to try to get the tail lamps working. As for the flickering, has anyone fitted a stay alive to Caroline?
  2. I've fitted a Lais 860019. I can't get either the step lights or search lights to work and the tail lights won't stay on as f2 on my Prodigy Advance didn't latch. The interior lights flicker badly on the move, Purely by coincidence, when I was at my club yesterday someone had left out a copy of the March 2022 Railway Modeller which had an advance review of Caroline. The review stated that production models were to be fitted with a stay alive capacitor - doesn't look as if this is the case. I'll try again with the step and search lights, but could I have a faulty model?
  3. Mine arrived this afternoon. It's a lovely model, but I'll echo what others have said - the packaging is poor. A £40 Bachmann coach is better packed. My Caroline came from Rails and the external packaging was very good so no damage. I also found the instruction manual a bit poor, especially the diagram of the end pipes, etc.
  4. I ordered a pack of transfers yesterday afternoon from Railtec. They arrived in the post this morning. Can't do any better than that! Well done.
  5. Don't know if this helps, but I have a 59 with the factory fitted 21 pin Imperium decoder. Functions 1 to 5 alter the light settings - day, night etc. Confused me to begin with!
  6. Ignore the above. I seem to have ordered a dcc fitted but sound free version instead! 🙄Sound chip and speaker ordered...
  7. I've just bought a Dapol class 59 with factory fitted sound. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with a list of decoder settings. F1-F4 control light settings, but there is no indication on how to control engine sound, horns, etc. Can anyone assist? Their website is being updated so no downloads are available.
  8. I had the chance to chat with him at Model Rail 2023. Very nice chap. Hope he enjoys retirement ( I do!)
  9. I've just purchased one. Looks like a lovely model, but I'm having problems in fitting the decoder as I'm not sure which way round it goes! The decoder is a Dapol Imperium 5. One way it fits - just. The other way round it fouls the PCB. I can't get the loco to move either way round...any thoughts, hints? I baulked a bit at fitting sound as paying more for the decoder than I paid for the loco seemed a bit much, although I might bite the bullet in the future.
  10. I'm shortly going to start a Comet Coaches kit of one of the above. One detail that I can't find is the roof - specifically the ducting for the Thermotank "air conditioning" system. I have a drawing for the roof of the 69' 1st class sleeper of the same period (1935/36) but this shows only normal shell vents. The post war 1st class sleepers did have the ducting but I don't have a drawing of this! None of the composite sleepers survived, but I understand that some of the post war 1st class sleepers did, but I can only find side views, not roofs. Can anyone help? Thanks.
  11. The main difference between the 31 and 37 is that the 37 had a 12CSVT which is intercooled. The 31 has a 12SVT with no intercooler (the C in the name stands for charge cooled). Similar to the 40 and 50. The 40 has a 16SVT, the 50 a 16CSVT.
  12. Experienced similar to this at Model Rail 2023 a couple of weekends back. Several fiddle yard tracks - Peco code 75 pinned to baseboard via cork - buckled badly. It didn't happen on the scenic section of the layout as presumably the granite ballast held it in place. Once the layout was returned to base it settled back to normal in a few hours.
  13. I don't have a 33, but I do have a 27 which I assume has the same chassis. It's a lousy runner compared to my Bachmann , Dapol and Hornby locos. It gives out a constant "thrumming" when running. I've greased all the gears but suspect the problem may be a slightly bent cardan shaft. Guess what - Heljan don't supply cardan shafts as a spare.
  14. Sorry, no. For me in BR blue with a "D" prefix to the number as that is how I remember them on the northern WCML. Would also need the brass "THIS LOCOMOTIVE IS THE PROPERTY OF ENGLISH ELECTRIC LEASINGS LIMITED" owners plate!
  15. We will in the near future be exhibiting at an exhibition. During practice sessions we discovered that even in a garage it was hard to hear what each other was saying. It will be even worse in an exhibition hall. Any suggestions for wireless headsets? We'd need at least 3 which must be able to communicate with all the others at the same time.
  16. One problem about changing Hornby Mk 1s to make them look reasonable for WCRC is the bogies - the Hornby TSOs have BR1 bogies, WCRC Mk 1 TSOs have either Commonwealth or B4. Guess what Hornby don't sell as spares?
  17. I've had a similar message from TMC.😀
  18. Some Caledonian 6 wheelers survived until nationalisation!
