  2. Some people have very peculiar ideas about what constitutes 'weathering'. Then they try to sell the results on eBay!
  3. I recall loads of brown cardboard boxes filled with all manor of unseen goodies. I believe I bought some waterslide transfers? Don't think I ever used them - they are probably still stored away in a box!
  4. Re the collecting thing: How many locomotives does one really need to operate a prototypical layout?
  5. The internal framework visible in the Didcot building may reflect the style of timbering employed by the GWR in big wooden structures, such as goods sheds and transfer sheds, in the c.1850s? Traditionally, wooden Victorian buildings were often described as 'temporary' structures - in theory they would eventually be replaced by permanent stone or brick buildings. Some so-called 'temporary' wooden Victorian buildings are still standing today! Corrugated iron sheets on timber frames became the new 'temporary' building?
  6. Sorry. I should have said broad gauge - standard gauge, c.1850, transfer shed! Compare the internal images of the timber framing with your drawings
  7. You might compare your drawing with the broad gauge goods shed at the GWS site at Didcot? I bet there are tons of images on Google?
  8. There's an LMS Crab appeared on eBay. Seller says it is 'in good condition'. It's actually a wreak!
  9. I have just discovered that Hermann Göring had a huge model railway! Apparently, he would invite his friends around for running sessions with brandy and cigars! My partner just nodded and chuckled!
  10. I actually find this post rather sad. It reminds me of what we've lost. Like looking through old issues of the model railway press and seeing ads for long gone model shops that were part of our modelling youth?
  11. When I was living in Wellington, Shropshire, I used to attend GuildEx every year - as an interested non-member. My uncle models 7mm coarse scale, clockwork and stud-contact electric, he has been a GOG member for decades. I'm a 4mm standard and narrow gauge modeller. Must say, the 0 Gauge boys seemed a friendly bunch and I saw some excellent modelling on display - and not everything stayed on the road! When I informed my then new partner that I was going to the Gauge O Guild show, she gave me a funny look and asked: "Who is Gay Joe?"
  12. August 2020, Railway Modeller. Can anyone confirm if the naked bottom, depicted on page 597, is a 'first' for this august magazine!?
  13. Good luck to him! Some people like to have an air photo of their home. So, why not commission a model?
  14. I walked the route a few years ago. Some archaeology remains. A very attractive location but, as a model, operationally limited.
  15. Hauling and propelling was common practice on the ball clay narrow gauge at Norden (near Corfe Castle) in Dorset.
  16. Cookmere Haven in Sussex. Narrow gauge railway carried beach shingle to a roadside wharf.
  17. Industrial Railways of the South East - Middleton Press www.middletonpress.co.uk › ... › Mineral Railways 1 Apr 1984 - In the first half of this century most heavy industrial concerns had their own distinctive railway systems. The lesser known oddities are included ...
  18. Purely industrial narrow gauge layouts - in any scale - do appear to be quite rare? I guess there is always a temptation to run some kind of passenger service?
