    EBay madness

I think they got some white metal on their solder.
  2. Yes, the railroad open wagons have used the brake van chassis since their first release in I think some time in the 90s, not sure why, when a more appropriate chassis is right there, but it's what they use. I'm pretty sure these open wagons come from the Thomas the tank range, hence the weird hole on the front end where the door is, so the faces of the troublesome trucks could be put in
  3. Just painted some old wagons tonight, not in my era but I might give them to a friend, his kind of thing, they still need numbers and a few other adjustments, the open wagon will get a load, and maybe a new chassis as I might have some spare soon, the ones used on the railroad 21t mineral, the same as the chassis currently on it just without the footboards

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-R3365-Class-91-91120-East-Coast-Electric-Loco-OO-Gauge-/313720013882?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 Don't think much needs to be said here, I just hope when the new Hornby ones arrive that all the old ones come onto the market at cheap prices
  5. I think if I can get myself some cheap Hornby PGAs I'll have a look at doing some conversions into RMC PCA wagons :). I know progress is slow but progress is being made. Thinking of doing a Wrexham and Shropshire set for passenger services, had a look at some DMUs too. Finally have a set in stone era for the layout now which helps

I've been there, the shop is just a load of shelves with stuff on them, usually not placed neatly, with a very bare 6x4 layout that usually has a loco going round at 300 mph, all okay until you get to the desk, just a man with a laptop who then overcharges you. Was happy to see a Hornby Tom Moore 66 in there but then when I realised how they price things I soon realized that it would sit on the shelf for quite a while

Rocket Railways strikes again... Of course if they bothered to flip the loco over they'd see it in was Lima. Oh well, at least all the parts are there. Great value too! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OO-Gauge-Hornby-EWS-Class-67-Night-Mail-67-001-/115046145324?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

Isn't that from that Mars layout from the model railway challenge TV show thing? Forgot what it was called. Pretty sure I saw it on that layout when I went to rocket railway's 'exhibition' I went to the shop and picked up two old Hornby wagons and the cashier looked up the wagons on eBay and chose a random price... 23 quid for a TTA and old mineral wagon.. only bought them because I was too embarrassed to put them back after having to refuse a limby 73 and various other items. It was only when we were about to leave that we were told that there was an upstairs, and there was a second hand stand with wagons a fiver each! Kicked myself in the foot and promptly cleared out the wagon selection
  9. New Hornby railroad 47 can be had for 70 quid, put some metal handrails on it, do up the buffer beam proper and you've got a lovely little diesel for quite cheap! The hobby costs as much as you want it too. I've got a Hornby ex-lima shed that cost me 60 quid, I did all the detailing with scrap plastic I had lying around so I've ended up with quite a decent loco for 60 quid. Hardly as much as a PS4! And I suspect most budget modellers like myself don't do DCC, but even if I did, I would still have a more than decent diesel for less than 100 quid. I understand why people say the hobby is too expensive but you just need to look around
  10. I agree with you, but I think you are a bit mixed up in terms of my views on prices, I know models cost a lot for a reason, and I think it would be a irrational to try and make a new budget range at a loss considering how advanced the models of today are, either way I'm happy with my secondhand models plus the occasional new purchase
  11. Strange, any other info available other than the fact that they are of Lima origin? Such as when the models were designed, would have been released ect ect
  12. Yes, looking at models released by other manufacturers at the time really does show the bigger picture, 2002 Lima 67... 2003 Bachmann 37 Out of curiosity, does anyone know if there is any truth to the rumour of the vitrains locos having Lima origins?
  13. From what I heard, the skip was Lima's attempt at an 'up to date' model, so I can see why they were looking quite dated going into the new century, it's a nice model but anything but up to date, even by the standards then, if you look at what else was coming out at the time
  14. Hi, was going to put this in the musings and miscellany tab but it is a question so I've put it here. :). Since I am 15 (almost 16 but you get the point blah blah), I of course wasn't around when Lima stopped production in 2004, and I would just like to ask, what was the reaction among modellers? Was it a shock or was it something people had seen coming? Of course this is not helped by the fact that by 2004, the internet was a much smaller place, and I am not aware of any model forums from this time. I know there is 'Old RMweb' which if I'm correct, starts in 2005, however I'm not sure of any way to view the old rmweb. Lima in 2002 had released the 67, which despite their 'best' efforts could not compete with the contemporary models of the time, what was the opinion on the Lima skip? Thanks, tubs.
  15. If they stay on it for long it'll be weird to see them dirty
  16. I've amassed quite a few wagons, but I'm still on the lookout for HAAs and a EWS shed. I would like to get a GBRf shed in the current livery, as it seems Hornby has got the colours right finally on the last few GB 66s, but I'm not sure I want to take the chance, just in case.
  17. Spruced up my first GBRf shed, I'll paint the interior at some point, if I find good reference pictures. Air dam made from scratch, which is why it's a bit coarse
  18. Also I do apologize if I'm being a bit thick, but since some of the 56s to be be converted are Romanian built, does that mean they will look in anyway different to the UK built ones that have and will be rebuilt? If I remember correctly one said Romanian grid has the buffer beam cowling;any chance at all that it might keep it?
  19. So how long until she's in service? (But the same could go for 001 & 002, besides the railtour haven't seen them pull a train yet) Will be nice to see what one will look like in normal GBRf livery.
  20. Hi all, I would be very interested in seeing what people have to say about GBRf from 2001-2006/7ish, not really much information about this time online, searching up GBRf pictures or videos from its inception to about the middle of the decade brings up barely anything bar the naming of a shed in 2001, so very interested in seeing more from this. Do apologize if this sounds a little jumbled.
  21. Thank you, was aware of a book but the name escaped me, I really do need to get a hold of a copy, not much information about the ashby burton coalville area ect ect on the surface, just hope through my digging I can find some more!
  22. Has anyone got any pictures of prototypes of said models?
