  1. Saw this and thought of what you are doing Nick: Simon
  2. I'm not well up on my LNWR diagrams, are they all arc/cove roof stock? Simon
  3. Sounds interesting, what are you and Bruce planning Kevin? Regards, Simon
  4. I'd be tempted to consider a joggle in the drawbar Nick, with the vertical portion of the joggle as close to the tender as possible, supporting the drawbar on a shallow metal U under the rear loco spacer a bit like your Peco Jubilee. It would be a shame to have to hack at the body too much at footplate level. My Hawkins has the set up you have there and I've not found it entirely satisfactory even with the thinner drawbar of the Stanier 3500 gallon tender. Simon
  5. David, You have one of the B16s dated as April 1952, and if the views of B1 61039 and K3 61982 are on the same day then I'd suggest they are both somewhere around early August 1952. 61039 moved to York the month before and 61982, a Colwick loco, received a light repair at Doncaster, leaving works in early August before being reallocated to Stratford in the October. Gresleys in teak would still have been around in 1953, they weren't the most swiftly repainted of the pre-nationalisation coaching stock, but a whole/most of a train is possibly less likely unless it's excursion stock. Regards, Simon
  6. It took until late 1949 to devise the P number scheme and a substantial number of wagons hadn't received their new numbers by the scheme's abandonment (info from David Larkin's Acquired Wagon series). That wagon's in probably the most common state for an ex-PO wagon in 1950: partially re-planked, original 'livery' still fairly visible and owner and wagon number added to (try to) make sure the details aren't lost. Regards, Simon
  7. Thanks Rob The fact that sliding doors on a GC van open to the left rather than the more common right always helps in spotting them. Regards, Simon
  8. Very nice work Bob. Royal Scot looks lovely. Always good to see another 2mm LMS 4-6-0. Simon
  9. Is that a late-surviving GC van behind the B1? Regards, Simon
  10. Don't forget the influence of where the coal came from and where it was going to. At the start of that period the S Yorks coalfield very effectively fed Wath, and Woodhead gave ready access to the coal-using industrial centres, small (relatively) power stations and other coal users in East Manchester, Trafford Park, the MSC and Liverpool. By the end of the period the S Yorks coalfield was contracting, the Selby coalfield was opening up (as the Wakefield pits contracted too) and coal west of the Pennines was predominantly MGRs for Fiddlers Ferry. Those changes were rather more gradual despite the obvious '60s decline. Simon
  11. I've not come across evidence that they did pre-privatisation either. As is stated in the page I linked to the use of 50s on that service was for the period over that summer (easily confirmed by an internet picture search). This was at the same time as one of the periods of use of Class 37s on some Rhymney trains. I made it up to Rhymney, but not Fishguard. As you suggest in that sort of era (2004/5 at least) 37s were certainly used out to Fishguard H. on a Rhymney-Fishguard. Regards, Simon
  12. Do you count the 2006 ATW service? http://www.railtourinfo.co.uk/50_swales.html Simon
  13. I should probably finish this one Simon
  14. I feel an honorary mention is required here for the sadly departed Paul Price. An N gauge modeller who would definitely have told you Nick that you can never have too many Jubilees in red or 1946 black. He had a worse Jubilee addiction than me: Sadly many of the photos from his thread/blogs are gone. Simon
  15. I've merely helped you see what you always wanted! Whether what you need is something entirely different... Maybe you need a Mitchell plan rather than a Grand one to work too! It will look lovely though even if it is pulling those brown things rather than some nice crimson lake coaches 😉 Besides we need to restore the balance in the 2mm Force. Far too many big LNER engines and GWR beasties at present. One question, why the Raithby Fowler tender rather than a Farish Fowler one? Simon
  16. You've opened a can of worms there. The A5 is perfect for a late 1950s version of the train. Earlier than that and the regular engines would have been C13 4-4-2Ts then a mix of C13s and the similar C14s before the A5s appeared. Interestingly throughout the whole period while the passenger tanks had their weekend boiler washout etc J11 0-6-0s were often used instead. Coaching stock was as already suggested Gresley non-corridor coaches intermixed with GCR and some NER stock in the late 1940s/early 1950s with the pre-Grouping stock slowly giving way to Thompson and BR non-corridor coaches. Regards, Simon
  17. The whistles should be on the cab roof. It's there in PeterH's photos. Simon
  18. Looks excellent Graham. Not much doubt the cylinders are lined in the view you shared with me. Simon
  19. Interesting effect. Plenty of photos in the same stream demonstrating that 90352 had a normal tender: Simon
  20. Oh dear I think we've well and truly highjacked Peter's thread! Sorry Peter! Simon
  21. That's York old station Tim. Just the other side of the city walls from the present York station. Foss Islands Goods as described above was the other side of the River Ouse at the end of a branch off the Scarborough line which also served Rowntrees. Old station: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=15.5&lat=53.95972&lon=-1.09023&layers=168&right=ESRIWorld Foss Islands Goods: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=14.8&lat=53.96081&lon=-1.06986&layers=168&right=ESRIWorld Simon
  22. If someone or a business decided that a particular colliery's coal was the coal for them and ordered some then one of their wagons could end up anywhere!
  23. The map towards the bottom of this webpage gives a handy rough map of uk water hardness: https://www.aquacure.co.uk/knowledge-base/uk-hard-water-map/ There are more detailed ones elsewhere online. Simon
