  2. When I was working and someone came in without a mask, I always asked if they had one. Out of about a dozen occasions, only three were genuine exemptions. the others were mostly “ooh sorry, I completely forgot, I’ll just go and get it from the car...” reminding customers does not equal discrimination.

    2021 hopes

My hope is that not too many people explode when they discover the announcement is at 10am and not 9am...
  4. The guidance is clear for retailers. Non essential retail may remain open for click and collect and delivery. It doesn’t wholly tie in with the “only shop for essentials” advice, but wellbeing is almost as important as eating! and having something to do could be deemed essential.

  7. Just a short video update from me, regarding local deliveries and lockdown. https://fb.watch/2yIKSdqc6d/ (Facebook video)
  8. As of midnight tonight, Peterborough, and therefore Trains4U, is entering Tier 4 lockdown. We are still able to offer Click and Collect and deliveries. The same rules as before apply. Our phones and collection counter will be open during the following hours: Sunday 20th - 10:30 - 15:30 Monday 21st. - Closed Tuesday 22nd - 10:00 - 17:00 Wednesday 23rd - 10:00 - 17:00 Thursday 24th - 10:00 - 14:00 Friday 25th - CLOSED Saturday 26th - CLOSED Sunday 27th - 10:30 - 15:30 Monday 28th - CLOSED Tuesday 29th - 10:00 - 17:00 Wednesday 30th - 10:00 - 17:00 Thursday 31st - 10:00 - 14:00 Friday 1st - Closed Following days subject to review. These two weeks are usually our busiest of the year, and having to shut down is a real body-blow for us. If there is anything you need or want, please support us by buying something via our website, or by phone and we will do what we can to serve you, we sell gift vouchers for any value and we have good stocks of locos, rolling stock, track and accessories. Collection is available and we will aim to ship any orders as quickly as we can. I am also considering local same-day delivery options. Thanks for your support, stay safe and have a merry Christmas!
  9. Due to technical issues, the scheduled traction has been substituted
  10. I know about this process as it is my actual day job (Card payment processing) A retailer can perform a check on a card to ensure it is a valid account (Usually invisibly for £0.00 but sometimes for a nominal amount such as £1.00 - as with Tesco Pay@Pump). At the same time the retailer will request and receive a token from their payment service provider for use for future payments. This token represents your card, but is not your card, so if stolen can't be used by anyone else. (Meaning the retailer is PCI compliant and doesn't need hideous security to store your card info) - This is otherwise known as "Card on File" and is how your various cards are stored by the likes of Amazon, who seem to have the details all ready for you at checkout. Once items are in stock, the retailer will just charge to the token. Now, you'd think, being my day job - and being responsible for this very process for one of the biggest payment providers in the world, it would be easy to implement at Trains4U - So why don't I do it. It's simple - it comes down to cost - my POS/website provider doesn't support this functionality. Changing provider means changing website, tills, stock control, reporting and everything related to sales as it is the core of my IT capability. I am looking at changing but it is expensive and very disruptive, especially if you consider the export of years of historical data, and the import of many thousands of product lines. Saying that, it is my number one requirement for expansion of capability. Offering safe pre-orders with card tokenisation is relatively straightforward - if your systems support it, and it is a nightmare if they don't, which is why lots of retailers don't. (Or why they must take deposits). I can sort out the payment side easily - I can't get the POS system to reserve items that are not paid for... Despite being a common requirement for retailers in our field, on the whole it is a very uncommon requirement, which is why it is low on the functionality list of many POS providers.
  11. Simply put, No. You have a right to a refund, and the retailer is being reasonable in offering you a discount to keep the item. There is no obligation on them beyond that. Loss of Bargain is really only used where a failure of service provision results in a subsequent loss of income or profit, and is a form of compensation. It is extremely unlikely this would be entertained for a purchase of a hobby product, unless, say, the item was instrumental in producing a film for which you would have earned income, but even then its extremely shaky, would require lots of time and money in court and would probably not succeed.
  12. The thing that is really hard to get hold of is a decent Land Rover Wolf TUL/TUM (Come on Oxford!)
  13. I have one S&S Fox, sadly I’ve snapped the white metal barrel and haven’t gotten around to fixing it yet.
  14. Definitely CVR(W) Fox on those wagons. The turrets ended up on Scorpion chassis in the end to make Sabres, as Foxes had a tendency to roll over a bit too much. You can get a decent resin/white metal kit from S&S miniatures for £10 https://sandsmodels.com/product/cvrw-fox-armoured-car/
  15. We are all stocked up ready for the onslaught!
  16. *sigh*. It isn't sold out at the retailers, just those with online pre-orders.
  17. We are fully open again from 10am Wednesday 2nd December! Initially, capacity will be limited to 6 customers. please see our website for the latest rules and procedures click and collect is still available for anyone who prefers it. I’d like to thank all of our customers who have supported us through lockdown by using our website, click and collect or buying from our eBay shop.
  18. Ours haven't been delivered just yet. We had 85% of our requested order allocated by Hornby, so demand definitely outstripped supply. We have a lot left unallocated, so keep an eye on our website (I'll post here when they arrive)
  19. We need to give ourselves options for the next run! There is quite a bit of variety with the CDA in terms of liveries and more versions will be released in time. If the first batch proves popular, a second will follow fairly soon afterwards.
  20. Experience tells me that 99% of customers don't want to be applying transfers and renumbering, and those who are prepared/capable of renumbering would do so anyway, irrespective of whether it is numbered or not.
  21. Hi Tom yes it’s really down to popularity and allocating production quantities accordingly. If we get a lot of interest in DB, we may order additional running numbers. the running numbers are different for each retailer.
  22. EWS and Bauxite are in addition to probably multiple Railfreight versions. There might be other variations too, lets wait and see...
  23. Hi im preparing a detailed update I had originally intended for these to appear in time for Warley however given the shows have been cancelled we took the opportunity to spend a bit more time on livery and decoration variations, and there were a couple of production niggles to be ironed out. The parts have all been cast, etched and moulded and are ready to be painted and assembled final proofs should be produced next week and then assembly can start. We now expect them to be shipped shortly after Christmas. a detailed update will be coming very soon.
