  1. Hello class37418stag the Hornby Motor Rail set was uncatalogued it was available in the autumn and winter 1989 Argos catalogue. So it was either an exclusive to Argos. Or it was an exclusive to other mail order retailers. Littlewoods and their other brands Index, Janet Fraizer etc. Possibly other mail order catalogues Grattan Freeman's Kay's etc.
  2. Yes I'm sure when it is released the cab will be blue here is hoping anyway it would be amazing if underneath the nose ends there is super detail with buffers etc. Although as previously mentioned here I think this would envitably mean that would more expensive modifications to the 370 tooling DTS' and it would cost more than the RRP. Also Hornby do make BR Class 43 HST power cars with and without buffers and So inless there is high demand for some tooled APT DTS with lifted nose cones. I don't think we will see this. Although I could be completely 100% wrong on the lifted cones buffers etc. As I've previously mentioned Personally I'm just please we are eventually getting a new super detailed APT-P. As for many years as each year passed it was looking increasingly highly unlikely that we would ever get a re-run of the older now scrapped tooling. Let alone a new super detailed two full 14 rake with the APT-Ps one with yellow ends and one with APT-P livery window surrounds and even more the exciting the APT-P development coach. Edit: Ah I have just seen more auto typos DTS not DVT when I posted about the BR MK4 Coaches and DVT it auto changed to DTS but I noticed that at the time. So to clarify if I post on APT-P I mean to say DTS Not DVT and if it's about DVTs MK3 or MK4 or Br class 91s or intercity 225 and it says DTS you'll know its an auto typo.
  3. Wow the APT-P looks stunning! The printed destination board! and the City of Derby power car. I was worried that it might look too modern but thankfully it doesn't ! ( that might not make sense, or be confusing ) I will compare the City of Derby power car to the 1980 model!
  4. When you put it like that Jason I see your reasoning yes come to think of it my local town Newton Abbot had about 7 different independent toy retailers and model shops. By 1980, I guess for exclusives that was about it then. Also I've never used Smyths also they never have stocked any Hornby Hobbies products or any other model railway brands or come to think of it they don't seem to sell many british toy brands either. Edit I've Just had a look on Smyths they now stock a Micro Scalextric set and the Hornby Coca-Cola winter train set.
  5. A fantastic exclusive set for a very much sadly missed retailer Toys R Us such a shame I was moved to see it go as I am any business no matter where it is big or small local or 300 miles away or even 1000 miles away. I have seen my Devon High Street lose al of our local heritage our local M&S closed as many others sadly have across the British Isles. We even had a fantastic a shoe shop Ridgeways which traded for over 200 years I did shed a tear when they sadly closed their doors for the final time last year. The same applies to all other businesses which ran for centuries too although (Toys R Us they may return across the Atlantic Ocean who knows they might return here too here is hoping! ) and any other retailer national United Kingdom, the Crown Dependencies and British Overseas Territories and international global USA and Commonwealth Canada Australia New Zealand. But speaking of other British retailers . I was again deeply moved sanded to see all of the heartbreaking reasons the passing of the owners wife and the equally devastating for an amazing Manx businesses- Track Shack which traded for over 14 years for the wonderful excellent Isle of Man model railway retailer Track Shack sadly ceasing treading.with immediate affect a lump in my throat is putting it mildly. They were fantastic for me for having the renaming stock running numbers of Hornby BR MK2 D coaches and a few other locomotives etc I wanted. I always try to support and use multiple retailers, as I feel it is nice that you have an amazing model railway/ and your collection etc where as something so small such as a Metcalfe set of 3 GWR bench for station platform to a full 10 car Hornby HST set made up from about 6 different retailers and over the years across various counties in England for example I have bought rolling stock other products track from visits trips and holidays from the beautiful English counties of Devon South Yorkshire, Cheshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Cornwall, Lancashire and North Yorkshire and even Wales from Cardiff another favourite beautiful UK city, Carmarthenshire and Denbighshire.(stunning scenry) Scotland Edinburgh (same as Cardiff) or the Isle of Man (stunning). or even a few Hornby products from the Republic of Ireland. Where in total you have pieced of every corner of the British Isles from amazing model railway retailers which have contributed to it.
  6. An Argos and Aldi exclusive a BR Class 395 Javelin InterCity Express a slightly different alternative to the Blue Rapier set. I've just noticed there is a typo on my earlier post about the Anglian set the typo is Anglican
  7. Apologies I should have worded it better I ment two different train sets with Duchess in the title.
  8. Also In 1981 Hornby released The Lord of the Isles train pack featuring a Dean single was uncatalogued. I think the original was a limited edition. However this was reissued and actually catalogued in 2006 to mark the 25th Anniversary of the train pack.
  9. An uncatalogued 1996 Rural Rambler set. I can't seem to find it now but I know Hornby did issue another My First Hornby set ( not the catalogued 2000 set with an LMS marron liveried Class D locomotive, 4 wheel coach and two wagons, the 1995 musical Thomas set tooling with the station and tunnel that clip together housing the track rolling stock etc that turns into a carry case with the footbridge acting as a the handle) of a brightly bu this My First Hornby was a coloured blue train I think and it was a plastic twin track system with I think wagons and some animal figures and the second track was used for a battery operated car similar to the 1988 Thomas and Bertie set. and similar to the Noddy set. Also from Pat Hammonds 100 Years of Hornby book there is a Postman Pat clockwork train set and the Hornby branded Pound Puppies train set both with a relevant Clockwork 0-4-0T Continental locomotive.
  10. I wonder if The Lion will be just the locomotive on its own, or as a train pack? And what Rocket rolling stock it will include that is now available? Or if there will be a separate coach pack of either a set of any named variants of a set of 3 of the first class carriages? Or a 3 coach pack of the remaining two first class coaches with the Royal Mail coach so then the Lion can compliment the 2021 Rocket Train pack and the additional L&MR, Flat Bed Wagon pack and the L&MR Open Carriage pack.
  11. Ah Yes The Anglican Set! funnily enough I was also thinking of this one yesterday but my memory played a trick on me thinking I saw it in the 50th Anniversary 2004 catalogue but no! Forgot to add yes any steam locomotive from 1948 onwards in BR experimental blue is very nice and this beautiful Ex LNER B12 is no exception.
  12. Yes thank you for reminding me of these wonderful gems the Aldi exclusive sets ect the Irish CIE Slainte express set is very nice. There are many other international sets as well! Ah here it is the other Irish set from that period. I have added some other retail exclusives of more recent time. Asda exclusive Country to Coast set. City Express recent Argos exclusive . I remember seeing the Mainline Steam set I think this was an Argos exclusive with a beautiful LNER Class B12/3 locomotive seeing this in the 2004 Argos Autumn Winter edition. If my memory racks up anymore Ill post them here!
  13. It is very enjoyable to see the contributions to this thread thank you to everyone who has replied and added their own contributions yes I remember the M&S excusive train sets etc I can remember the M&S 2004 Evening Star set as well! Ah another I have just remembered are the early 1980s Treasure Chests. whatever the contents contained was pot luck I have seen a lot of these which consist of a anything at random such as this example of a HST train pack these seem to be more of this than the other various random combinations sets ones I have seen also containing things such as track extension packs a catalogue a train controller, a station or a signal box or whatever etc with all the relevant paperwork.
  14. The only other Duchess set I can think of is this one from 1980 and 1981. Hornby Collectors Guide - R.542 Duchess Mail Train Set 1980 and 1981
  15. So this beautiful locomotive is due in 2022 I can probably guess the cover artwork for the 2022 catalogue then since Hornby centenary in 2020 and this years 2021 the cover designs this decade has been very beautiful illustrated paintings watercolours drawings prints etc! attached Photo © David Heys collection 2021 | All Rights Reserved.
  16. One day it could happen with all other manufactures of course Hornby, Bachmann, Dapol, Heljan, Hatton's, Rails etc That would be fantastic to produce a replica layout set of Rainhill Rocket 150! It could be constructed even with the Pylons re created in OO gauge. It could be filmed with an Ultra HD camera and edited with the audio taken from the 1980 BBC TV broadcast. with their permission of course with a copyright disclaimer the original audio is copyrighted by BBC Studios 1980 etc. like you I would love to see a recreation of Rainhill 150 in OO gauge.
  17. Wow How have I missed this I will most certainly pre order one! Hornby I might just email them my bank details ( I am joking please no one do this just my excitement! ) so they can just send anything they make to me I am amazed with what they have announced it is almost as if Hornby ideally eventually will reproduce everything British railway related in the next 20 years! who knows what next will they venture into Narrow gauge?!
  18. I have always been interested in Hornby products which were released but were uncatalogued in the official Hornby Catalogues. So I thought I would start this topic to see if anybody else other than myself is interested. So here it is from the top of my memory I have found a few selected ones which are mostly from the 1990s. Also there is a link with more which do not list the ones I have mentioned. 1982 Rocket Train pack . 1989 Argos Motor Rail train set. 1996 Country Local train set. 1996/1997 Intercity 125 train set . Circa 1998 The Duchess train set. Circa 1998 Football Special train set. Circa 1998 GNER 125 HST train set. Hornby Collectors Guide uncatalogued models
  19. It is interesting that 1996 was the last year that a catalogued Intercity 125 train set and train pack was issued in a BR livery, until 2002 when the original br blue livery was eventually re-introduced and 2007 when Hornby eventually reintroduced a HST in BR INTERCITY swallow livery. The catalogued R.897 1996 special 20th Anniversary limited edition Train set 1,100 sets with the first 5,000 certificates signed by Simon Kholer. And the R.336 3 car train pack again catalogued in 1990-1992 , and 1995-1996 and the uncatalogued R.901 InterCity 125 set according to my Ramsay's Guide to Model Trains - 9th Edition by the two amazing Pat Hammond and Phil Parker it is very interesting that this set was released in both 1996 and 1997 although both years uncatalogued. Also I was interested to find a Hornby R.695 High Speed Train Set released catalogued in 1990, 1991 and 1992. However I have seen one of these issued sealed on eBay with underneath documents with the catalogue ref on with the year 1994 also it also contained a 1994 wonderful sadly missed A5 mini catalogue. So inless this was left over stock that was allocated to mail order catalogues I don't know as it is un referenced anywhere.
  20. I should imagine it is possible in the future. There also appears to be more Heritage HSTs issued by various franchises each year the latest being by this one East Midlands Railway . https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2021/02/east-midlands-railway-unveil-iconic-livery-for-class-43-locomotive-43102-and-confirms-future-at-yorks-railway-museum.html
  21. Stuart P has very kindly added a fantastic Video on YouTube of the APT-P this original master is from on Sound Super-8 cine film with audio this wonderful piece of archive which appears to be restored and scanned in glorious HD! 720p if anything! Apologies if it isn't in HD! It certainly does look a lot better than SD! with fantastic audio here it the link enjoy as i certainly have more than once! APT-P - BR's Advanced Passenger Train
  22. Yes there was this episode of Morse original aired in 1990 or 1993 the episode this series was filmed enterally on 16mm film a rarity of British Television programmes of the early 1990s as this is of course fantastic in preserving the future of British television in digitisation ITV archives. I remember I watched this episode on ITV3 HD a few years ago Which means that a high resolution of either standard HD 720p or full HD 1080, 1080i ,1441 or even ultra 4K UHD and 8K UHD 2160, 4320, 8640 leaving this final transfer in glorious detail in HD! I remember seeing the Hornby Flying Scotsman. also Coronation Street has featured Hornby Bachmann Dapol and Heljan with David Neilson aka Roy Cropper with various layouts rolling stock etc since he first appeared in 1995. I remember him in the cafe with a collection of BR Mk4 coaches a BR MK4 DVT and a some BR Class 91 he must have an Intercity 225 set! and Norris Cole Malcolm Hebden had a LNER Class A4 Seagull and some LNER carriages from 2004ish! Also a few years ago Phil Michell bought a Hornby Flying Scotsman train set and the additional track packs and the building accessories to complete the layout.
  23. List of Hornby and other manufactures appearances on Television I am sure there are plenty more but these are the ones I can think of at the moment I am sure there is indeed plenty more despite the title this is just from Television programmes ,Drama, factual, News, Documentry, Children's Television shows and TV sitcoms. I was thinking about starting this Topic two days ago to gain interest and replies of other appearances. Well yesterday evening I was watching Celebrity Pointless Child now adult star special. I was flabbergasted by who appeared on it it was one of the guest was none other than David Peachey now Dr as he is now a GP. who played the lead role Bernard. Are You Being Served?
