In the words of Pope Leo X, y tho? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363610581580?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20211130125621%26meid%3D37bee9ff6fd24c8cb4063546b8c01c4c%26pid%3D101465%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D114132062535%26itm%3D363610581580%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D3817808%26brand%3DHornby&_trksid=p3817808.c101465.m3507

New build NER K class 0-4-0T for Beamish
papagolfjuliet replied to papagolfjuliet's topic in Preservation
To be fair to Beamish most of the unrestored stock is now either under cover or on loan elsewhere, although poor old 'South Durham Malleable' continues to rot in the pit yard and the future of 'Newcastle' at the museum must now be in doubt since it was purchased as a second engine for the Rowsley branch and is presumably no longer required. In any event, the K has been paid for by a specific donation from a benefactor. Ne regardez pas le cheval de cadeau dans la bouche. -
Thorpe Park 2' gauge railway
papagolfjuliet replied to papagolfjuliet's topic in Narrow Gauge Prototype
Three, each with its own rake. The ex-Treasure Island line Alan Keef shunter, whose steam outline bodywork had been replaced with an ordinary cab and bonnet, was presumably also available to cover for failures. -

All I know so far is that they too were recovered by the owner of East Links and that homes have been found for them. -
Surprised this hasn't been mentioned here yet. Unlike many standard gauge new builds, the funding for this one is already in place: http://beamishtransportonline.co.uk/2022/10/north-eastern-railway-k-class-a-new-project-for-the-2020s/ Correction: it has been mentioned, but not in this section. Oops.

Whatever this thing is, I'm fairly sure that Armstrong's didn't build it. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115476684326?hash=item1ae2f25e26:g:In0AAOSw8JZivX0P

Warley National Exhibition 26th & 27th November 2022
papagolfjuliet replied to Chris M's topic in Exhibitions
As a wise man once said, asking for forgiveness is easier than asking for permission. -
I am moved to ask how much of that loss can be ascribed to the legal costs of Hornby's decision to pick a fight with an enormously wealthy French mass media company.

"A hit, sir! A very palpable hit!" -
With the addition of an LCGB or RCTS headboard you can get away with practically anything.

Thorpe Park 2' gauge railway
papagolfjuliet replied to papagolfjuliet's topic in Narrow Gauge Prototype
Update: the shunter has gone back to Alan Keefe for overhaul prior to moving to the Hayling Light Railway, and one of the 4-4-0DHs plus a rake of the toastracks is indeed going to East Links Family Park, whose owner arranged the recovery of all the stock. -
Judging by the photo, this Hornby 37 has evidently decided to end it all. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255830431653?hash=item3b90ae97a5:g:GlMAAOSwIe1jdKvw

Good grief. A Hogwarts V2 with a Maunsell tender. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393571478757?hash=item5ba2b02ce5:g:erkAAOSwo3hitcWA&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoJJEii8Ecep8edwSwz8C2JJMNvQOgRdH%2BjElndSXZOBx%2BbGVaUFQr%2B9v7zWNpnAxf6LkIXQr5eqNBNV5YBiTUFv0hJqUJKVl5bmDI%2FIcZnipwLnb5doaHVx2lh8VPRdgvmWHHS1FLNgS%2B1BE56xED9tnxLLohsmSL%2BTkFIsGiYZ2YMya9Q3SQenVibUzY4fDo8%2FQRI8IFVEYsLzcvWH7dho%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR_KlyIGUYQ

Thorpe Park 2' gauge railway
papagolfjuliet replied to papagolfjuliet's topic in Narrow Gauge Prototype
Yes, the Alan Keef shunter is from the Treasure Island line and I think was retained for departmental duties; everything else is from the Canada Creek line. The only other public 2' line in Scotland I can think of is the Leadhills & Wanlockhead, which seems an unlikely destination. -
I note that the rolling stock from this long-defunct line - three Wild West outline Severn Lamb 4-4-0DHs, an Alan Keef 4wDM, and a number of attractive toastrack coaches - have been removed from Thorpe Park and despite rumours that they were to be scrapped, have been sold for further use with the 4-4-0s going to a site in Scotland and the shunter destined for overhaul and resale. Does anybody know any further details? Thanks in advance.

This legendary collection is evidently being thinned out; one of the Spanish Henschels is up for sale. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/482664527293653/ Usual disclaimer: I have no connexion to the vendor.

The latest instalment of the Grosmont shed blog consists of an update on all five NYMR based shunters. https://www.nymr.co.uk/blog/mpd-engineering-blog-october-22

Try this direct link to the image in question. https://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/locos/atlantic/apics22/melvinfr31_16aug22e.jpg

Further, the NYMR recently announced that thanks to a generous bequest the overhaul of 80135 will be restarted and that the engine will be registered for Whitby running.

More on the very fiddly mounting of 2424's boiler. The penultimate photo could, if you squint, have been taken at a southern English MPD sixty years ago. https://www.bluebell-railway.com/brps/atlantic-latest/

Here's an extraordinary looking LSWR machine which could be reasonably easily recreated using a Caledonian Pug body and perhaps an L&Y Pug chassis. https://transportsofdelight.smugmug.com/RAILWAYS/LOCOMOTIVES-OF-SOUTHERN-RAILWAY-CONSTITUENT-COMPANIES/LOCOMOTIVES-OF-THE-LONDON-SOUTH-WESTERN-RAILWAY/i-dFwksRm

Preserved Mk1/2/etc. coaches in non-BR liveries
papagolfjuliet replied to eldomtom2's topic in Preservation
The Metropolitan coaches carried two liveries in the early days of the Worth Valley: blue and primrose yellow, and red and cream. One of the W&M railbuses wore a bright red livery (I think Heljan have announced a forthcoming model of this), the SECR brake was also bright red, the bulleid coach was a very light green, and there was a red Class 126 buffet car with a thick white bodyside stripe which I believe was subsequently scrapped and which can be seen in the sixth photo here: https://preservedbritishsteamlocomotives.com/gnr-990-henry-oakley-gnr-990-lner-3990/ -

It was however only applied to one Mk.1 during that period, SO No.4481 which latterly carried an ersatz unlined Pullman livery before being blown up for an ITV documentary about terrorism! The livery was also applied to the two Class 100 DMU sets, the AC Cars railbus, the three Class 126 buffet cars which served as camping coaches and a static buffet car at Goathland, and Gresley buffet No.9135. The livery was later revived for camping coaches and static sleeping cars and is currently worn by the following vehicles: http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1897 http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=3584 http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1616 http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=69 As mentioned above, many NYMR Mk.1s were also painted in the later house livery of unlined maroon with shaded letters, and the white NYMR roundel amidships. The two Mk.1s at Glenfinnan station museum also carry LNER tourist stock livery: http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1891 http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1253 A few other examples of Mk.1s in fictitious pre-nationalisation liveries: Severn Valley based experimental FO No.3083 carried scumbled 'teak' livery for a while (scroll down for photo): http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1218 A Mk.1 BFK at the Lochty Private Railway was painted in an approximation of Caledonian Railway livery: https://www.flickr.com/photos/126029278@N04/49784223596 (It still is, just about: http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1584) A Mk.1 SO in green and cream at Fort Steele Historical Museum in British Columbia, which can be seen in the slideshow here: https://crownofthecontinent.net/entries/fort-steele-heritage-town-fort-steele-british-columbia/995a6dbb-bbcf-4f33-af9f-5dc7ff7705ee Most of the Strathspey Railway's carriage fleet used to wear a livery of dark plum and cream: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strathspey_Railway_(preserved)#/media/File:Boat_of_Garten_station_geograph-3267592-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg And of course Pullman liveried Mk1s can be found at the KESR, GCR, NYMR and elsewhere.
