  1. I think i have just had an urge to do some modelling.

      I have a good side?

Sorry, the photofloods are all bu@@ered, and the films out of date too.....

  2. I'm finding simple things difficult lol. I have managed to carry out a control change on a signal  and thats about it. It did involve five track circuits and three lots of point detection but was succesful all the same. (OO gauge, steering clear of the bigger stuff for a bit)

Definitely. The model railway has never had so much attention.

Little and often.  That's the way I try and get back after some time away from the layout.  Keep going matey.

Hope you get better soon Richard - in the meantime I'm glad the little railway keeps you going.

  3. I'm sure i saw a OO scale vestibule rubbing plate like those on a class 33/1 somewhere. I've searched and searched but can't find them now. Any ideas?

Replica Railways used to sell parts from their MLV kits which included those rubbing plates.  May be worth giving them a call?

      many thanks

  4. I'm sure when i was a kid my Airfix Coastal Defence set had guns that fired some sort of projectile? I bought one for the lad and no sign of anything dangerous.

Little shell shaped pieces of plastic and a spring loaded firing pin.  Ditto with the coastal fort.

But to be fair, pretty good chance you could fire them towards someone so not surprised they no longer have that feature.

But fairly tame when compared with the Triang R672 Honest John missile. I can still see the dent in the ceiling where mine was fired straight up from the living room table.

  5. I'm thinking of a mail coach with an opening door and deployable net. Is it possible to get a dcc servo controller and small servo's that will fit in a OO scale mailcoach?

I've got TPOs that operate with

      HD 3-rail

      HD 2-rail

      Triang (and Hornby) mechanical ramp

As mentioned above the HD offerings have a socking great solenoid that whacks the "net" and the delivery door open. Only a tinplate coach could survive the forces involved!

The benefit of the HD setup is that it only operates when you want it to, if it passes the apparatus without the button being pressed, the doors stay closed. The Triang and Hornby version opens the doors each time it passes, whether there are mailbags to be collected/dropped or not.

My first post should have had a "tongue in cheek" smiley after "I think its been done before...." :jester:

Unless you have some sort of a lineside trigger, you'd have to have "net" boards at a suitable distance before the apparatus to remind you to deploy the pick up net in time....

      LNERGE

I can't use an extra rail with dcc so it will have to be something else. Magnets may be worth a try.

  7. I’ve just put an eBay motor in a Lima 08. A bit wild at first but fiddled with the back emf setting and it’s a usable loco. Hornby chip with home made stay alive.

Apparently the idea was that they were trying to do a slow burn on the contents and the 76 year old Torpex was feeling a bit frisky!

    4. truffy

      truffy

That's the problem with 76-year olds; when they feel frisky they fall apart.

  20. To go out and pick up a token instrument from an auction house or stay home and wait for the postie with my Genesis tool van… Sore back and dirty hands tonight.

  21. Was on the 23:18 Edinburgh Waverley - Perth last night after attending the Tattoo. We had the train nearly to ourselves me n Mrs LNERGE. Where is everybody?

A similar ride pre pandemic remains the most crowded I have ever seen a train. People sitting on top of seatbacks with their legs round people in seats.

I got a Hornby 31 to work nicely so I though I’d get it a sound chip. What I got was rather lame. I don’t want to make the same mistake with the 37.

Once she's crawling, you want the ELC Happyland Train. Here's an unboxing video:

twenty or more years ago, we had two sets, including points and a diamond (well, square) crossing. It could be set up with two trains circulating in opposite directions on a dog-bone layout with passing loop. With care, it could run for ages without a collision! You can probably get extra track or complete sets second-hand.
