I'm in the dog house. Was left in charge of 3 year old twins for a week. Reported they were well behaved, i'd kept the place 'tidy' and done all the washing and not phoned grandparents for help. you can't win.

Has just acquired the last mechanical searchlight used by BR. It came out of used in the mid 80's. I certainly have a grin now.

At the GC today. Spent far too much money at Quorn. I now have a gradient profile for 0 to 5 miles of the GN&GE Joint.

When a visitor says 'thats a realistic pull' it's time to look at the wire run. Wheels are meant to go round ?

I saw an eel today. The first one i've seen for years.

No flies on me no sir. I can spot when i've found a bee's nest in a signal.

What does one actually have to do to a Hornby class 110 DMU to make it run nicely?

Relpace the wheels. I replaced all of mine EXCEPT the ones on the power bogie with a pack of newer Hornby ones, the other two coaches run smoother and the pick up is much better on them than the old 'silvered' wheels, made a huge difference. I only did those as that's how many axles were in the pack, and it is a huge improvement. No doubt better drive bogie wheels would improve it more.

Fully agree about pick-ups and wheels. I quite like the motors (someone has to), but they benefit from a good clean along with the gears, then a careful oiling/ greasing on the gear spindles, plus a smidge on the motor spindle. I find then powerful, and in this regard better than the new Hornby bogie drives.

When I used one to convert to a Class 104 I replaced the m/bogie with one used in the ex Lima Cl 101 and 121 and fitted pick ups to the trailing bogie. The bogie adaption was straitforward as I cut out the original bogie side frames and stretchers in one piece and fitted around the new m/bogie. I also changed one power bogie wheelset so there was only one traction tyred wheel, sufficient for a 3 car dmu. I've also done the same with an unconverted Cl 110 and my Dapol Class 150 and 155. V...

I ws tempted by a second hand Deltic yesterday. Pinza weathered £75. I'm always wary of buying at shows/events but cation was thrown to the wind. Luckily it's near perfect and probably not even run in. I'm dead chuffed.

My Stove R has finally made it round the layout without derailing.

I have a small carry case of modelling bits I take with me when I'm working away. I've managed to leave it at home this time though. I may have to resort to watching telly.
