  1. I suspect that this thread will prove to be particularly popular. Here are some from me, in no particular order, to be going on with; 4 REP 2012 stored in the electrified siding at Brockenhurst following withdrawal in 1988. 3 CIG 1498 approaching Lymington Junction on 31st July 2005. Two class 442s at Walkford in 1988 shortly after introduction to service. 444022 at Walkford on 14th June 2014
  2. There have been a couple of DB Cargo class 90s on hire to Virgin Trains East Coast for the last few months deputising for non-availability of class 91s. They are usually restricted to the services to Leeds and Newark where their 110mph top speed has less of an impact on time keeping, although I recall that there has been the odd visit to Newcastle too. 90039 waits at London Kings Cross on the evening of 16th March 2017.
  3. Depends on your definition of first generation, so hopefully this will do. Southern Railway Waterloo and City line - under renovation at the LT Museum Depot, Acton. ...and the next photo will be a BR Western Region diesel hydraulic, of any class, working on any region but the Western Region.
  4. One of these - currently being built by Siemens and being delivered to South West Trains. None have entered passenger service yet. They've been under test and driver training, primarily on DC but also on AC. Pictured at Barnes whilst on a driver training run on 16th February.
  5. Hopefully this will do... Fishbourne signal box and level crossing, circa 1986 when I worked nearby in Chichester. ...and the next photo will be from the Isle of Wight before electrification in 1967.
  6. Here we go. A foreign built loco in Britain. The next photo will feature a locomotive bearing a nameplate showing a girls name.
  7. Reflections. Barrow Hill roundhouse, 22nd March 2017.
  8. It's the leasing cost - the number is just missing the £ sign.
  9. Steam sunset over Brooksbottom Viaduct on the East Lancashire Railway, 13th March 2017.

    Formula 1 2017

    Probably no great surprise. http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/39290908
  11. Testing of the 345 EMUs is underway. 345005 - the first unit in final passenger spec configuration - was at Liverpool Street this morning. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C7COxi-WoAAcwgR?format=jpg&name=large
  12. Early morning mist burns off at Burrs Country Park Halt on the East Lancashire Railway, 13th March 2017... ... followed shortly after by the morning freight clanking its way up the line.
  13. Do you know where the work is taking place Peter?
  14. Ahh. Happy days of using Microsoft Project. I recall the regular quip that it was usually quicker to complete the bl**dy project than it was to produce an accurate Gantt for the project using MS Project !
  15. According to a GWR source in answer to the same question on another website; To reconfigure the traction packages
  16. VSTPath in the system to move them from Workington Docks to Kingmoor later this afternoon - 6Z89; http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/O77254/2017/03/01/advanced

    Formula 1 2017

...and IMHO the shape of the Lotus '78 was enhanced by the John Player Special black and gold livery. Gorgeous.
  18. Relying on a couple of separate internet sources (and I appreciate that they might not be wholly accurate), rather than using a tape measure to provide a definitive answer, produces the following; Mk 3 - 2.74m Mk 4 - 2.73m Class 800 - 2.7m
  19. Not only high, but also as the coaches are 26m long (as opposed to the 23m of Mk 3 and 4 used by Virgin East Coast) the distance from the door to the platform edge is also greater at stations with curved platforms such as York. No doubt DafT considered this point when they 'wrote' the specification. Sorry my mistake - no doubt DafT overlooked this point when they 'wrote' the specification.
  20. My bold in your original post. You know that as a fact do you? No, I thought not. Best keep quiet I think, until all the relevant facts are in the public domain from official sources rather than just rely on supposition and rumour. Some expression of condolences from you for those involved in and in the aftermath of this event wouldn't go amiss either.
  21. Almost twelve years ago to the day - 11th February 2005 and Freightliner 66557 eases on to the Up Pontefract at Milford Junction with loaded bogie coal hoppers, probably destined for the Aire Valley power stations at either Eggborough or Drax (it's taking the wrong route to directly access Ferrybridge PS). Followed a few minutes later by EWS 66179 departing Milford West Sidings and crossing to take the Up Normanton with empty HAA wagons. Much has changed at this location on the railway in the last 12 years; bio mass trains to Drax have mostly supplanted the frequent coal workings to the power stations in the area. All the HAA wagons have now left revenue earning use. EWS has gone through a change of ownership and (several) rebranding. Much is still the same; the track layout at Milford Junction with its signal box is unchanged and Freightliner locomotives are still painted green, albeit with a different owner. Class 66s continue to do the job for which they were bought. Edited to add second photo.
