Thank you Mick. I bought a jar of MIG tracks wash from you at a show where you were demonstrating. In the absence of any replies prior to yours, I tried it on some spare bodies this morning--it seems ideal and is nicely subtle for my N-gauge diesels. I've used it on the side grilles and might track black or dark washes for the roof grilles, possibly mixed with the track wash.
My B17's fine, so you must have been unlucky. I've learned the lesson that you must always return an unsatisfactory model to the retailer rather than trying to sort it out yourself.
I've just bought a good 47 from Osborn's (green D1779); like you, (?) I've found them the most difficult Farish diesel for good running; it's always best to be persistent and return any sub-standard ones to the shop rather than trying to sort them out yourself (bitter experience!)
Me too, many thanks Willoughby! I looked for these on the internet some months ago but no trace of any new ones out there. Just hope these are in good nick and not covered in mould at the back of a cupboard!
Unfortunately my Greyfriars Bobby was a 'rogue' and never ran properly, despite some professional attention, so I'm hoping Farish will do a re-run too. You never know.......
I would say that Setrack is mainly a 'starter' system and more committed modellers would be expected to move on to Streamline, with its range of radii. My Farish Duchesses cope well with Peco small radius code 55 points in my fiddle yard.
I have a colour-light signal which goes blank instead of red when passing the (Heathcote) detector. I've checked the wiring and also the signal in other locations--both ok. Can anyone offer me advice on this? TIA
I don't want to put a damper on the Cartic project, but a bit of bitter experience to relate about the NGS kit version. I built 2 of original sets and they ran fine until I loaded them with 64(!) Oxford Ford Anglias; they looked terrific but my (current) Farish 37s and 47 couldn't cope with the weight!
Not worried by lack of DCC but it does seem strange to omit; unless you are very familiar with the prototype I can't see too many being concerned about the wheel size--I'm just glad they're spoked! According to my ABC Combined Volume ( Winter1956/7), they were 5'7'' which scales to 11mm.
I think an unannounced item has crept in which may be of interest to transition modellers; it's the BD containers in 'door-to-door' livery. (Scenecraft 379-393). These are unweathered (unlike already announced Conflat with container 377-331) and come as a set of 4 with 2 in the crimson livery.
It's also interesting to see which items no longer appear--the Thompsons for example; can we anticipate these in maroon before long? (Sorry for frothing!)
My trains will stop on the main line, then reverse into the yard. I assume a ground signal (position light) would be appropriate, but which way would it face? In the direction the loco was travelling, or would the driver have to look behind him?
I've just seen Andy Stroud's 37 on the Blueball Summit thread where he quotes your mod. It looks just right, so I'll follow his example. Thanks for passing on your expertise.
Can I suggest we have no more negative stuff on here? I've wanted a Co-Bo for ages and really look forward to their fruition. I'm even more keen on a Baby Deltic. so how about it Rapido?
As a Deltic follower in the final days, KOYLI in the 1980 livery had a light green/grey cab area--not white. Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere on this thread.
