  1. Undoubtedly they are superb models but the 1Co-Co1 wheel arrangement appears rather prone to trouble on Peco code 55 curved points; they'll run perfectly without the pony as a Co-Co but maybe extra weight or a spring would refine performance. Back-to-backs seem to be properly set for the Peco-recommended standard of 7.315-7.366mm. I would now advise against returning them as it seems to be an inherent characteristic of the long bogies.
  2. Great job John but oh, those couplings!
  3. I've tried it all, including 7.54mm. I've checked the powered wheels in situ and they seem ok but I'm reluctant to lever off the bogie. Time to give up and send it back as per Bill's post I think!
  4. Has anyone had a derailment problem with their 40? One of my two derails in one direction only when negotiating points on a curve. I've swapped the pony wheels from the 'good one' and it still happens. I've tried several back-to back settings to no avail. Running it without any pony on the offending bogie and it runs perfectly--obviously not a solution. Wondering if I should return it to the retailer.......
  5. I'm surprised by the lack of recent info on here. Is it still on for Warley 2018? Don't want to wish my time away but I can't wait to see it!
  6. D369 and 40159 invoiced from Widnes today.
  7. I've got 2 packets of 4mm Peco 'golden wheat' and 'straw' , both of which have formed into clumps or balls within the packet. I've blitzed them in the food processor but to no real effect. I'd be grateful to know if anyone has had a similar experience and if they've found a solution.
  8. It's always January for the Farish announcements John. Not long to go!
  9. Hopefully Dave will include the 23 in his Warley announcements.
  10. As I was admonished for starting this thread earlier this year, I'm wondering if it's ok to start now! Let's go for it!
  11. Maybe this has been covered elsewhere/before but I'm puzzled why the grey models are only sold in multiples of 4. Might not singles and twos be worthwhile to produce?
  12. D369 (green centre-headcode) has a tick on the Bachmann site today--seems to be coming ahead of the blue one.
  13. I reckon you CAN see daylight between the body and bogies of a 40. There's a photo of 40106 (D200) in green on page 33 of Rail Portfolios no.1 with a blue DMU behind. You can definitely see the blue betwwn the 40's first powered wheel and the front of its nose. There's other shots in this book which show daylight. Obviously the daylight on the model is exaggerated to enable it to cope with train-set curves, but it certainly shouldn't put anyone off buying what looks like a superb model.
  14. 82020 now put back to Feb/Mar. (update 13 October 2017).
  15. Eurostars dull? I know they're not Napier-powered but they're highly impressive!
  16. That really is good news about the 50. I'd be interested to know what the changed conditions are though. Maybe Brexit is being abandoned? (dreaming).
  17. Now it just shows the plain green 3MT is 'on order'. At least the delay helps me pay for the 40s!
  18. Pretty sure Dave will have rapidos fitted and alternatives in the bits bag.
  19. Thanks for that Grahame; it looks superb. Trouble is, it only makes me want a new Peak to accompany it!
  20. I've referred readers of DJ matters (Class 23) to Modern Locomotives Illustrated number 226--The Class 23s and 28s. Now wouldn't a 28 be nice too--especially with those duck-egg blue grilles and bogie frames!!
  21. Recommended reading--Modern Locomotives Illustrated number 226--Classes 23 and 28. Check it out in WH Smith. Some good photos of typical trains they hauled.
  22. That's an interesting point UMinion. It won't really matter to me as my ballast train will have several Dogfish and a Sealion in the rake too, plus a pair of Grampii)
  23. Just what I wanted to see Dave. My Mermaids were getting anxious!
  24. A bit of a boring subject and apologies if it's been covered before! What's the best method of keeping static grass scenery clean? I've used a portable 600W vacuum cleaner on mine and 'scarred' the grass with an accidental touch of the nozzle. Any recommendations on the best equipment to use please?
