32477 is actually an E4X class locomotive - an E4 rebuilt with a larger boiler. However there's a picture of 32517 on this page in plain black with early crest. http://www.semgonline.com/steam/e4class_01.html The link to zenfolio requires a username and password.

He also has "scrapyard" versions of Mallard, Winston Churchill and and Evening Star for sale and has actually sold a City of Truro. Where does he get these from? If they sell for £17.99 he can't be making much profit? Perhaps they're the old Airfix kits (now Dapol) made up... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scrapyard-LNER-4-6-2-A4-Mallard-loco-heavily-rusted-and-weathered-/301593487074?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item46385f66e2 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scrapyard-Evening-Star-2-10-0-9F-loco-heavily-rusted-and-weathered-/291426790423?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43da63ec17 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scrapyard-Winston-Churchill-loco-heavily-rusted-and-weathered-/291426793751?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43da63f917

And I shudder to think what the asking price would be if it were actually MEGA RARE, and not just plain RARE.
  4. Like this, for example. Scrap locos being taken away from Weymouth - http://www.davidheyscollection.com/userimages/00001-k-robertson-last-trip-2.jpg This thread has more photos of the same train - http://www.davidheyscollection.com/page30.htm

Read the description - the seller has an axe to grind, and has been doing so for quite a long time ....

The coupling pockets are NEM ones like these - http://www.ehattons.com/11193/Bachmann_Branchline_36_030_Mk2_Couplings_NEM_shaft_straight_with_pocket_x_10/StockDetail.aspx I've fitted Kadees to mine and the pockets are more or less at the right height. However, even with a #18, the coupling extends too far past the buffers for my liking. At some point I may try a #17 but I've never used this very short one before.

Fascinating! So to prevent the shunter stalling it's hard-wired to a MK1 full brake? What was wrong with a shunter's truck?
  8. The problem with the Back EMF causing a mid-speed surge is something I found characteristic of TCS decoders. Turning off Back EMF resolved the issue to a certain extent, but wasn't my preferred solution. I tried a couple of DCC Concepts decoders instead, and found they had exactly the same characteristic. Again turning of Back EMF partially resolved the issue. In both cases it meant setting CV 61 to 0. I replaced them all with Lenz which have no such problem. Now we have these Lais decoders with the same issue and the same way of turning off Back EMF (CV 61). Coincidence?

Just checked my pre-orders again today and now the price is showing as £93.46, whereas it was showing £76.46 a couple of days ago. No email from Hatton's informing me. I've looked at other box-shifters, and Model Railways Direct also have the model at £93.46! Also a bit miffed that a few months ago I paid £120 each for a couple of Hornby 2HALs, and now they're on sale at Kernow's for £89.99. And my 2BILs cost me £100 - now even Hornby as well as Kernow are selling them for £59.99, and this includes the recently available all-blue version. So should I cancel my E4 order and wait for the sales?
  10. Interesting that this system fully support Railcomplus in the way that Lenz describe how it will operate. I wonder if this will kick-start Lenz into bringing out the long-awaited V4.0 upgrade of their LZV100 which is supposed to bring Railcomplus to this system.
  11. You need a DCC decoder to go with these couplers so they're not cheap ...

I have an E4 pre-ordered from Hatton's for £76 and so far I've had no emails about price increase ....
  13. Are the points Electrofrog or Insulfrog? DC or DCC? Both will make a big difference to the wiring required.

The problem is this site and not IE 11. To correct the issue you need to change to the RMweb_2013 theme. Go to the bottom of this page and click "change theme". Select the 2013 theme and then restart IE. All should then work for you.
  15. Check you're running on the RMweb 2013 theme. Click "change theme" at the bottom left of this page, and select it. This should fix your problem with IE 11 but you need to restart IE for it to take effect.

73043 did indeed spend the last 5 years of its short life on the Southern Region - http://www.brdatabase.info/locoqry.php?action=locodata&type=S&id=73043&loco=73043

  20. The BR-built series, 34071-34110, were all built with 9' wide cabs and tenders from new.

    Hornby 2 BIL

Pictures of all three variants here - http://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-Railways-British-Isles/SR-and-BRS/Southern-electric-traction/ The caption on the first picture of 005 wrongly calls it an EPB unit: these units were converted from 4SUBs but were given EPB front ends in the process.
  22. The reason for building the initial 70 locos to a width of 8'6" was to enable them to work over the restricted-width Hastings line. In practice, this never happened as the Schools class locos were more than adequate for the services required. So an 8'6" loco with a 9'0" tender would simply be barred from the Hastings line, but probably from nowhere else.
  23. The original MN looks superb with the right set of coaches, eg - http://railphotoprints.zenfolio.com/p762907361/h4e95124#h4e95124 But perhaps not these! - http://railphotoprints.zenfolio.com/p762907361/h2b545cb9#h2b545cb9

Yes they do but goodness knows why! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-TRIANG-SCRAPYARD-MALLARD-LOCO-CLASS-A4-NO-60022-WEATHERED-LOOK-/221688357829?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item339da7e3c5&nma=true&si=xkBJxnI18Q0wQbxoZh5hEpGJ5z4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 He sold a scrapyard version of Mallard, which as we all know is still in the NRM!
