Thanks Jack. @McC will likely confirm but I know several (half a dozen even?) reminders get sent out including after they arrive. Plenty of forewarning is issued and information provided on arrival. Not much more we can do, but someone else gets to benefit in the end I guess!

    Cheers!

    Fran

connected to this - can you give us any indication as to when any ‘spare’ coach sets will be available? I’d rather give my money straight to accurascale than to a scalper on ebay

  2. I hadn’t signed up for any alerts on the product pages themselves - so I didn’t get any notifications.

singed up to the lot on the off chance that more are about, but suspect I’ve missed the boat on this one

it’s actually kind of funny - the accurascale website is mocking me while I look at it with notifications of what other people managed to buy lol

If Hornby were to produce one of these in BR dark green & with the A4 style sweeping curve on the smokebox I would probably get one, otherwise no thanks. Rule 1 applies.

unlikely, as neither of the locos ever carried that type of livery. By all accounts BR had them in black and apple green with a straight black line around the smokebox for a brief period. They were then rebuilt into B17/6 locos with no streamlining at all

The only colour photograph of a streamlined B17 that I recall is of 61659 East Anglian c1948 at London Liverpool Street Station, which "looks" like the LNER green livery. Not sure where photo came from ( I've been collecting photos etc for more years than I wish to disclose!!)  or copyright, but it has been published a number of times.

I’d have said that that photo showed 61659 in black rather than green. Seems to look an awful lot closer to the black 1047 on the right rather than the green tender in the background, and there doesn’t seem to be any join around the smoke box area between the green and black as down on the second of your two pictures.

Bit embarrassing!  But suppose its not as bad as the loco on the display stand with its tender the wrong way round....featured in several shots...the Scotsman is part of the digital range....pushed by your index finger!

Nice to see Hornby fixing locos that customers return! Is this a free service as the second rocket loco wasn't a QC issue more a ham-fisted bodge?😉

EDIT - read the quote you responded to, rather than what you had written :)

I too found it immensely annoying for the tender to be back to front - drove me nuts when I saw it

Hornby’s repair service is actually own of their better features - they do tend to go above and beyond and have been known to repair locos that actually they were not obliged to

I was exchanging emails with Simon Kohler and he has said he has one small tank locomotive in tooling and another waiting to be tooled. Don't know quite what that means, or any more information, but promising!

one of them probably is the J94 - as that was announced already I suspect that this is the one in tooling. Can’t recall any other announcements myself (although that doesn’t mean there weren’t any), but picking guesses from the clear blue sky you’d have to think that the Terrier and Jinty would be favourites for the second engine

If I couldn't think these Mk5s looked stunning enough, I see one lucky customer has come up with a set of working destination screens for his over on Facebook (British Railway Modelling - cant post the video as the group is set to private). Well done Accurascale, you've knocked these out of the park again!

Credit to Michael Lomax! Absolutely stunning stuff!

is there a link to the video/community available?

  8. I personally think that a third, apple green BR livery was initially intended, but has been dropped from this year - During the launch, Simon’s comments weee along the lines of ‘there will be an LNER loco and a third in BR condition’ which implies that there was another loco planned, which shoddy editing didn’t remove from the broadcast

One of the photos I’d seen of Caldicot(t) Castle ( top knowledge @Coach bogie) has an indicator shield.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen one on a model? I’m thinking the sort of thing that should be 3D printable? Possible to slot over a model?

lookin at that, it doesn’t look too hard to model in 3d - getting it to fit the footplate and buffer beam would be the tricky bit

My mum could have seen them steaming through Tivetshall, Norfolk in the 40s, I'm considering buying an example.

However, I'm assuming the loco will be based on the full-fat version of the B17, as opposed to the Railroad version.

we aren’t sure it’s based on either of the previous models. Judging by the price, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s entirely new work top to bottom as it’s roughly comparable with other new toolings for locos this size

I may push the button on this one when I see what Rails and Hatton are asking (typical discount seems to be about £20 from other retailers).  The £20 saving is less important than proper packing, which has been an issue with Hornby direct sales in the past.

Rails doesn’t stock Hornby any more - Kernow have theirs on at just under £189, which is a decent discount on the RRP that I think will be roughly what everyone else can offer too

Does this come with sound installed? Both press and Simon talked about it but there's no mention online and the R number doesn't indicate this either.

Any idea if this is a limited edition and if so what numbers? Normally it's just 500 but can't see this being the case.

As a £320 Dublo model, a lot of which I know are being provided with sound for a comparable price, I’d say there is a decent chance that it is

As per usual I am a bit confused!

Is the BR release to be BR green or BR numbered in Apple green ?

    or has black been mentioned.

    thanks

    Peter

there’s no detail as of yet that allows that to be decided for sure :)

Suspect that the BR version is BR apple green with BRITISH RAILWAYS on the tender, but that’s not been definitively confirmed yet

I can't help wondering whether their CME was trying to respond to comments that GWR engines all look the same, or if he had just been smoking certain substances.  Or was it an April fool joke by the works foreman at Swindon?

A Thomas face would have been just as convincing.

the legend is (and I’m not sure if it is apocryphal) that the styling was done by smearing plasticine on a novelty paperweight in the shape of the King, and that was handed over to the works to produce it.

if so, it kind of makes me want one more 😄
