  1. Fairford is just up the road from me, but it's lost a lot of its appeal since the Americans pulled out several years ago. I'm only interested in the fast stuff, not helicopters or trainers. I counted 7 fast jets last year. Couldn't cycle over this year as it was the wife's birthdays and we were at IMAX
  2. I was a tad shocked at how much I paid for the polybulks recently, £60 to me seems a lot for a wagon, but it is a very nice one. I guess we are a bit loco centric - I need to move on from the days of Lima 37s for £39.99 ! ( 1999). I'm looki gat the forthcoming class 37s and discounted they are £106. I think that is a fair price TBH ! This is discretionary spending folks, if it seems too much for you, don't get it. It's not petrol, food, water, gas etc.
  3. Good stuff, I was toying with the idea of 248 as well, there were so many interesting 37s In that period before a tidal wave of sheds came and knocked them out. It's kind of nostaligia about how I got back in modelling as well - in 98 I went to the legendary Toton open day and brought a Lima 37057 ' Viking ' in the new and funky EWS colours , this was followed by 37219 in mainline. They then sat in a drawer under my bed for a year and a half until I thought I needed somewhere to run them. Mainline blue was my favourite colour and very relevant to the south east where I was brought up. strangely there are many photos of manline stuff in EWS days, but not much when it was just mainline in its own
  4. Well I make that about £3000 worth.... Seriously though ,mate, have you informed your house insurer you have a ' collection ' worth over £1500 , some of them need this info to put it separately in the insurance
  5. I've gotta say it's partially your work James, that has got me eyeing up the forthcoming 37s from Bachmann in EWS and mainline, ids there a place in my life for a mid - late 90s plank ??
  6. I need these lead times to save up as everything seems so much more expensive these days.... Yours, Angry of Swindon
  7. It's a 100% profit they seem to be looking for. I'm thinking that would only appeal to those with no knowledge of models , looking to see probably a deceased relatives stock.
  8. Ah but don't forget, they didn't arrive at once. Load haul, transrail and mainline appeared in 94, Then Wisconsin Central brought the lot ( and rfd eventually ) and started EWS And who in their right mind, thought, three different bidders would buy LH,TR and mainline to compete against each other for small slices of a small market...
  9. Blimey Neil, is EWS back in the day ? I feel old now....I was 24 when EWS was born....
  10. I think the model looks great. If you are modelling something like an industrial area with limited operation, you have to get the detail spot on to make it interesting and you have definitely done that !
  11. It's generally a waste of time trying to sell stuff to shops, they want too much mark up. I tried to sell them a ltd edition 37 and 56, they offered a total of £70. No thanks
  12. Good old duffs. I can't remember seeing many in the early EWS years. I used to chase the Calvert bin liners a lot as they passed through the chilterns, where I lived, but these were never 47s - almost everything else but not those. Project evergreen through up a lot of surprises - I do remember 2x RFD 47s top and tail shunting some salmons in and out of the former Thame branch one evening in a thunderstorm. That's what I enjoyed about the period - unusual traction in unusual places
  13. Interesting and effective technique for trees !
  14. Hmmm, makes me wonder if my boiler ports are correct as I haven't messed with them
  15. Do you have plans to do 47016 atlas ? I'll never forget this old dinosaur turning up at risborough with a load of salmons as part of evergreen... Lots of character and late 90s to boot
  16. The level of detail is amazing. You need a few more waitrose MILfs though....
  17. Indeed mate , newer version .missing fan belt as I got rid of that to improve its movement
  18. Don't pull things off, unless you are prepared to paint over the rusty bits !
  19. Don't want another 56 ? Trying to shift my metals one, can't even get 65 for it in Ebay... That 505. Is a beast and nicely modelled. I hated it when EWS pulled off all the depot plaques in such an unsightly way. I can understand they didn't want the Br arrows, but the depot plaques weren't harming anyone
  20. Oh dear, So this coach is a bit pants. The Hornby HST mk3 is a bit pants too. Lucky I've got some 47/0s to haul some Bachmann mk1s...
