  1. Very nice model, of what was my local station for a few years... Will it be all modern stock or will you be running BR blue as well ?
  2. Both I would think ! Later in the 80s trips ran from thameshaven to RL, before the train carried on to destination.
  3. I think you'd have to go for the feel of the place in OO. A runround on an embankment, those lights and some houses backing on maybe - Does anything else run round there or is it just bulk coal ?
  4. I'm surprised there was not any traffic for RAF chivenor...
  5. I think alot of stock went to derby for refurbishment, this was running all the way up until the early EWS years. Also I have seen the photo of a class 47 with 2 LUL battery locos pulling them through wycombe, may be a bit late for you circa 1987
  6. Well, I think the coal for aylesbury came from bletchley direction in the early 80s - I have seen photos of 2 class 25 with a load of 21T hoppers both at Aylesbury and crossing the flyover at Bletchley. Latter on in the 80s it was a class 37 gig from Didcot via Neasden, then even later a class 58. Also I have a pic c.1983 of a 25 at princes risborough with HEAs, 'to be attached to a chinnor -acton speedlink' so there must be a period when it came from that direction as well ! I take it you have already clocked the wine traffic to aylesbury in this period ? Have you seen derbysulzers.com ? Whole section in there about 25s working from bletchley and around Aylesbury in the period. Never seen any brick traffic through there, and was unaware of any oil trains - never seen any photos of that. What about some movements of tubestock, and tube battery powered engines to derby - these went through Aylesbury as well.
  7. I don't mind cliches, or the odd cameo. I would think model railways are like books - only a few basic themes repeated. what always gets me is the road vehicle stuck somewhere that would have been utterly impossible without a 'chinook' to get in or out. Less is more.
  8. where's the tractor from Jim ?It's niiiice !
  9. having had a similar problem, with 31270,Hornby sorted that out in about 3 months. My dutch 31110 also developed the cracks. That went back in feb, Hornby procrastinated until May.Then I got an email saying there would be no new chassis for that loco until October.Hencethe loco could well be with them for most of 2011....
  10. 1.England 2011 in general Bring back england version 1982 !

nice work on both locos, The disadvantage with the forum is that eve3n great layouts don't spend long on page 1 due to the volume of new layouts -but Iguess that shows the hobby is doing well.
  12. Dodgy subject....politics are not allowed here. But I'll choose ed milliband because I don't like his face.
  13. Sorry to see Lyneham go, flew over it on the app to brize last week. I don't where brize will put the extra aircraft,it looks pretty full already there. One things for certain the RAF ATC will have to get a bit quicker/flexible with the influx. At present it's like talking to Heathrow circa 1950. See those based there on stand 53...
  14. On time or not, surely staff or not,it amazes me when people are so slapdash with their choice of provider to hurl you through the air at 500 mph, at a cabin altitude of 8000 feet, in a tin tube pressurised at 9 psi !! Recent dutch report on an aborted take off at schipol made interesting reading. First officer aborted the take off beyond V1 (decision speed, you CANNOT decide to stop above this) , because the aircraft 'didn't feel right',no mechanical faults found, capt was lucky to stop in the remaining distance.Capt had 3000hours flying , the FO 2000. Most airlines won't even consider promotion below 4000 hours .
  15. well, the 40s got to bristol, gloucester and severn tunnel junction fairly often and they are all WR !
  16. excellent stuff ! I too was given a Hornby HST set when I was 5 (1977 !) and would also love to create a WR homage from those years- watching with interest !
  17. wow, that's some loco collection - It would take me all year just to keep the wheels cleaned !
  18. Banbury ? behind the station.Anyone said Oban yet ?
  19. I used to see loads of these at maidenhead/reading in my 'spotting days' (82-84) and they were always a favourite - anything other than an HST was. But I have the one Hornby version and it just doesn;t excite me - there's something 'wrong' about it but I can't figure out what exactly.
  20. I have definately seen a photo late 80s/early 90s of the yard. IIRC it ws a few rakes of VAA/VBA/VDA vans being shunted by a class 08, must have been the cider ?
  21. Also read the RM article........I like it alot , something different with obviously the inside knowledge to get it right.Well done !
  22. Dave, It's almost a shame you are not modelling the mid -late 90s - Brain Daniels fotopic (before it went down) had hundreds of photos at hinksey with lots of 37s/58s etc and some of the old order of wagons i.e seacows , rudds and such like. I still find freight/engineers trains interesting but it's always a bit predictable now what will be on the front...
  23. wife has just informed me 'there is a mag on the microwave' - looking forward to seeing this in the RM later !
