  1. Hi again Flood! (remember me from the diesel roundhouse idea topic B) ) Appologies for my ignorance and misunderstanding of the concept of your layout. Of course it's just like a terminus station - I hadn't thought of that And, I must say, after having studied your photos of the right/entrance end of the layout I can see that it is indeed far more interesting than I'd originally thought. Amongst other things, I didn't initially realize that it was based on Aberdeen (unfortunatly, I'm not too familiar with that part of the country - Birmingham's about the limit for me!) and opperating that to schedule will make for an intresting challenge for you from an opperations point of view. So now I'm begining to see the point of this layout By the way, that's not OO track is it? EM perhaps? I really like the ballest, looks so real! The wooden walkways seem very nice too. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing the progress.
  2. My goodness Chris, that is some jolly good modelling. I have to say the pub looks even better than I thought it would (I love the entrance!) and the power house is a stunning piece of work too. You're a very talented modeller. An inspiration to the vast majority of us. I look forward to seeing more of the good stuff. Exhibition dates?
  3. I must say, your pics of 50035 had me fooled. For a moment I thought it was real! Nice bit of modelling there. Well done. Looking forward to seeing more Class 50 beasts!

  4. And let's not forget that back in the day we didn't benefit from the High Res digital camera we now have. I seem to remember one of my first 35mm cameras came from Argos and cost £12 At the time I thought it was high-tech as it was possible to choose between having the time or date on the picture!
  5. I echo that. These Silver Bullets look very nice. I'm really quit tempted to get a few. On the other hand if Dapol (or anybody else) were to do the Mk2 air-con coaches I wouldn't hesitate to order a few rakes.
  6. A quick look on Ebay tells me that the prices of all Class 50s have gone up in the past couple of years. I remember 3 or 4 years ago I bought a couple of brand new Vacs (50035 and 50007, I think they were) from one of the retailers for £45 a piece! Now it seems that for less than £60 you can't get anything, new or used. Of course it's the same story with Bachmann too. A few years ago you could have a Class 37 or a Deltic for about the same money, now even the old ones (eg. 37671 55002) seem to be selling them for over £50. So maybe there's just more demand at the present moment. Or perhaps since the cost of labour in the Far East has increased the cost of new models has gone up, thus incurring the value of the second hand market to increase too? It's all a mystery to me. Ah the good old days when a Lima 50 was yours £13
  7. Not good news i'm affraid.... Just this evening have I noticed that a couple of my Hornby Vacs chassis have swelled (difficult to replace body after removal), similar to the Heljan 47 problem. I hope they don't break or crack the bodies. I don't know which locos they originally were because my chassis have been mixed. Is there a known fault with the Hornby 50 too? Should we be worried? I'll have to get all my locos out tomorrow and examine them all. Say one of my profesionally repainted bodies were to get damaged. Would the manufactoror be liable for that? I don't like this at all....
  8. This looks a nice layout. After using so much available space I just don't see the opperating potential of such a layout though. Nice work anyway.
  9. I don't know if this is the right place, but a friend just asked me if the 50028 on Ebay was by Hornby or Lima. As they're selling it as a Hornby when it is in fact actually a Lima model, I just thought I may as well bring it to your attention. If it's any help the item number is 220571435726 Shame really because it looks rather nice like that.
  10. Below NSE flashes actually. August to Ocotber, according to my photos. Yellow axleboxes around 1987. Removed around May 1991 About the radio areils (roof pods). Were all of them fitted with these; when; and why?
  11. I concur. Please Mr. Bachmann - a new class 50. Pleassseeeee!!
  12. I have a ViTrain 37. I don't like it. It really is a toy. Same here B)
  13. Quite the conterary. I think we all probably have to sacrifice somethings for our hobby, but I don't mind. If I was a millionare I'd be collecting the real 12 inches to a foot scale ones
  14. Sounds like a good idea to me. I'd like, in order of prefrence, RNSE light RNSE dark LL black roof ONSE Laira blue LL gray roof LL blue roof (50010) LL with small arrows (50023) undercoat (50035) imagine them doing an all new cl. 50 to the same spec as the Deltic prototype! B) and if they were to do them unnumbered and with all the options (ploughs, pods, NSE flashes, ect) included in the box i'd sell my Hornby ones and buy 50 of them (honestly). even at say £150 a piece.
  15. Why can't they eliminate the cantrail stripe? It would hardly cost them anything to do so. Sorry but that's just plain lazyness if they don't. At the prices we're paying for these models you'd think they'd do everything they can, within reason, to get them right.
  16. ok, so they have got a few of the right. maybe i exagerated a bit in my oringinal post. but, 50002 blue is far too dark. plus terrible weathering 50007 red number/nameplates and wasn't there something about the LA symbols being wrong? then there was also the weathered version 50031 wrong crests 50007 wern't the nameplates in the wrong position on this one?
  17. i don't think they've been able to get a class 50 right yet either (except D421 perhaps?)
  18. 50032 was withdrawn on 15.10.1990 50026 was withdrawn on 11.12.1990 but that's not what you were asking, was it? 50032 was cut up in 02.91 at Old Oak By 1992 50026 had made it to Booths but was never cut. so really 50026 was the last Vac to retain ONSE. B)
  19. My goodness, how can it be possible that I'd never noticed that? It's quite prominent too. Thanks!
