  5. You can get methylene chloride through e-bay, I use it for kit building, I found it didn't touch some pipework I wanted to repair, so got some pipe solvent from screwfix. Emma

  7. When rubbing back paintwork, could I suggest you use wet'n'dry paper (800 - 1200 grit) to prep the surface? Use it on a block wet with a little soap to help clogging. The issue with micromesh and scotchbrite, is that they are not tru grits and nor do they help in getting a flat surface. Emma

  10. Doctor P, forgive me if I'm wrong, but you seem to be rushing headlong into throwing 'something' together. More haste less speed is a useful motto here. I would research what you are interested in and consider carefully how to achieve it. I agree 'playing trains' can be fun - but it can also get expensive! Emma

  14. Ah, sodium persulphate, sodium hydroxide and the resist film are all obtainable through e-bay.... as is ferric chloride of course. I believe the etchers nowadays use the persulphate as ferric chloride has limitations on disposal and handling Emma

  19. Thank you PAD and Horsetan, I have been wondering about rivet making machines. I pan to start scratching a few locos and have been looking at the tooling I might need. I had better start saving................ Emma
  20. Do you have to use some 'padding' under the workpiece while punching rivets? Emma
  21. Brass wire wrapped on an arbour perhaps? After cutting, you could hit it with a hammer to flatten or file flat once soldered to the model. Emma
