    EBay madness

Oh there is clearly some fascination with this beast as others have appeared elsewhere for sale. I bought one back in 196? - oh I can't remember - when they first came out and it cost a fortune probably over five shillings. Obviously I wish I had kept it

Er...hello ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIX-TTR-OO-GAUGE-3-RAIL-CAT-NO-F103-GWR-COLLETT-CLASS-6664-working-order-/370666842684?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item564d772a3c Didn't I have one of these with two wagons as a Hornby-Dublo set back in 1952 ? I think he used the same photo twice !!

Either he hasn't heard the news recently or else he knows something we don't ?
  4. That was brilliant Reminds me of the old school French Pas d’elle yeux Rhöne que nous clue: it ain't French !!!
  5. Today I took some old clothes to Oxfam. They said they were pleased to have them back........

    Paris in HO

Yes, very stylish and I look forward to seeing more photos ! Paris is all about atmosphere and the 'Red Balloon' film was shown yet again recently. I try to watch it each time as it is a wonderful portrait of a rather beautiful, if slightly chaotic, city. I have this mad idea about modelling the Gare de la Bastille; I scanned and kept the February 2011 article on it published in Continental Modeller.

    West Coast Blues

I do hope that 'First' are not simply doing an 'East Coast' by bidding too little. Or should I say, simply buying up all the old Navy Battleship Grey paint for the stock and then trying to run a railway without adequate staff. Driving to Cockfosters car park is perhaps still the easiest way to the Capital.
  8. I seem to recall that the home of my Council Tax, otherwise called Lincoln, was to be linked to Kings X by diesel HST via Nottingham. Presumably that is now off the agenda ?

I bought a presentation case with fifteen of these little blighters - all different, of course - for £9.99 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Expo-77051-Flat-Blade-Screwdriver-2-0-x-40mm-New-Pack-/170608799362?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item27b913ae82 I must fit an alarm on the workshop......
  10. Ah, my childhood days have returned ! My family lived on Houghton Road about two hundred yards from what was the A1 climbing Spittlegate Hill. The overnight sound of a 'streak' was balanced by the lorries changing gear as they faced a very steep climb heading south. I spent many happy school holidays hanging over the bridge and trespassing along the line. This was the early 1950s of course before the A1 bypass was built and, as I think you have modelled, before the Lincoln line from Platform 1 was torn up. A superb project Robert - as I now live some 40 miles west east* of Grantham, I look forward to seeing the layout at a future exhibition. *oops, old age again ! Incidentally, the station in 1939 boasted 1,000 staff including my relatives, Thomas Booth, and two of his sons, Joe and Walter.
  11. Well done to Simon Grayson and the Huddersfield team. Can't wait for the local derbies with his old club and the look on chairman KB's face No I am not a fan; after all half the HT team and most of the cash was moved to Elland Road back in 1919 to become Leeds United. As the saying goes, 'Do you follow football ? No, I'm a Leeds United fan...'
  12. Looks like the UK is run by a joint committee of the FA and HMRC... Many, many years ago, when tackles were somewhat more fierce than today, a police officer (they were then stationed along the touch-line) tried to take action and was reprimanded by his superior who said that they had no jurisdiction on the field of play. Plus Ò«a change ! For a English-speaker, I take it you are stretching a point for the sainted Mr R ?

If his hand is that steady pouring the paint, you'd have thought that lining by eye with a brush would be no problem .......
  14. Nearly afternoon then ! Another two inches (5.08 cm) of snow overnight following yesterday's little lot. Foggy as well. A16 is partially blocked by accident just south of us. Must be Winter then ? Apparently you folks in England are not due to get your supply until tomorrow afternoon. Told you we were different

Yes, rare obviously, but an initial asking price of £100 ? Some more Lima offerings on this buyer's listings http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LIMA-O-GAUGE-WAGON-6783-NEW-BOX-VINTAGE-/250978897729?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3a6f820f41 One similar wagon is ending tomorrow and presently at £6.99 !! I paid £15.00 for mine last year...... Bob
  16. Vertical storage, apart from enabling me to store two layouts, makes it easier to add and adjust point motors and wiring looms. I've actually gone for 5ft boards this time to allow a little vertical space through doorways. If necessary, a maximum width/backscene height of 2ft 4ins will mean that, if necessary, you can always move 'horizontally' through standard doorways. Naturally I learned that the hard way in tiny parish halls Bob

  18. Maddening, Pete, as 'Downtown' was on a telly advert in recent times ! Have just returned from the Loire valley - SWMBO's xxth birthday treat - and strangely have not heard any music/muzak in any restaurant or chateau or anywhere else for that matter !! Do the French ban unnecessary noise ? For the first time that I can remember, i would have preferred to stay over there, rather than come back to UK; whoa, are things that bad ...... Bob
  19. Quote "I've been working on projects that fire my imagination without making any concrete progress on a proper layout......" Another Steve C in the making then Welcome back, Mate, I am working on another 1/45th layout, this time three enormous planks - each 5ft by 2 ft http://www.flickr.com/photos/winterschlaf/ Bob
  20. I once went out with a woman who had odd eyes. One was blue..........the other two were green...... Now where's my old white mac
  21. Many a slip..... Robin Hood, newly restored as Earl of Locksley, lay dying in his castle bedroom, surrounded by his Merrie Men. 'Little John', he murmured, 'bring me my finest bow and a straight arrow. Then open the window' . John did as he was bidden. 'Men', he whispered, 'I shall release this arrow and wherever it lands, you must bury my body'. With his dying breath, he pulled back the bow and the arrow was despatched. Later that day Robin expired and the next morning, in accordance with his wishes, the Merrie Men buried him....on top of the wardrobe...

Surely, we went through this 'discontinued' Klear fallacy on a previous thread ? S C Johnson's drivelled on about it back in January 2008. I went out then to my local 'pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap' place and bought three bottles !! Has it finally come to pass ? Bob

I used to buy my foamboard from this Ebay Shop but he no longer advertises it ....guess there are bigger margins to be had Bob
  24. Thanks, Pete We seem to have forgotten that when the Eastern seaboard of the USA gets heavy snow, we are next in line 'Long range' weather forecasts in UK are now two days ahead at most; funny how they spend the first few minutes of the evening broadcast telling us what the weather was today Well, just for Eastern UK dwellers, today was fog, some more fog followed by more thick fog, clearing slightly....and then returning to thick fog tonight ! A happy and contented 2011 to one and all ! Forget the money, the establishment does not discriminate - everyone is underpaid Bob
