  1. Have got the drive back. Son's Landy sold and is heading off to Morocco in the summer. Can now get to the front of the garage. Wonder what delights are stored in there when I open the door?

      > Allegheny16600 - dunno - not my problem - we've sold it!!! Son acquired GF who became Fiance, now he's looking to be family oriented.

  2. Ken Don't know if you know (or how familiar you are with Cornwall), the Camel Trail is the old trackbed of the railway to Padstow. Google for Camel Trail and there's loads of pix. Very few of them railway related - but occasionally you find a gem - such as http://www.westcount...mel/camel21.jpg and a Countryfile (BBC TV programme) video clip http://www.visitcorn...eos/camel-trail [Moved here from St Merryn thread as here is more relevant]
  3. has been drilling into impossibe to drill into concrete lintels to get some curtains up in the bedroom. Now has to get outside to rediscover the terrace.

  10. My own plans are based closely on Ashburton. It was small (11ft long to 4mm) and a pig to shunt. It has a service with autos, freight and both passenger and goods specials (Sunday School outings and cattle fairs). It was also, unliike many terminii, narrow. However let's look at what was on offer (and I'm old enough to rmember) what was availble on the market AND what modellers could do. Everyone wanted (well, most people) wanted a main line Very few people hasd the space to model a main line. You only had 00. TT (3mm on 12mm track) came later As diid 000 (2mm on 9mm track) Remember Lone Star? Wartime strictures were in everyones minds (right up until about 1960) Because of all this the branch line seemed a good idea A terminus was even better because you HAd to to soemthing and not just run round and round. There were plenty of branch line terminii PECO was based in Beer, Devon CJF was based there He had to travel to get his ideas He could only get so far in a day. Petrol rationing was instituted in late 1939 and continued until 26 May 1950and returned again in 1956 because of the Suez crisis Roads were narrow and slow. Car ownership was much less than nowadays. Once the K's 14xx came out there was no stopping people. So it really isn't any wonder that if you agree that CJF was the instigator of much of the initial GW BLT layout building then it's really not surprising that it became popular as it was what 'the average modeller' could achieve. So is it still a cliche?
  11. All progress on the lever frame stopped because of Andy's feindish quiz

computer away for upgrade for a couple of days, so when I could I tried Andy's quiz. got grief from SWMBO by staying up till all hours determined to get an answer to at least one question! Reporting total failure! and prolonged sojourn in dog-house!

  12. It was very hard to have to make judgements. Congratulations to all whose involved who have, lets face it, submitted their work to probably the most expert audience imaginable, both in their own skills and their diversity of knowledge. Will any of them make the mags, I wonder.
  13. SWMBO gets worried when I'm cooking and she hears the word "Oops!"

Not worried enough to order a takeout though?

"Oops" means that I've made a mess. "Arrrggghhhhh!" means that it's takeaway time.

  14. Much Fettling in the Marsh - still buildng the Scalefour Lever Frame.

  15. And signposts were almost invariably Sans Serif It was to do with the casting process - smaller bits may not have got filled with steel as well
  16. In that case it's about 40% shell debris. Pour acid on it and it'll fizz!
  17. When you do type it - signposts had Kerning - in Word you can. If you don't know how, press F1 in Word (2007 works, don't know about 2003) and type KERNING into the search - it'll tell you how to do it.
  18. If it's pre 1965 (which I think it will be) then it's be all caps - as http://www.didcotmet...ignsdefault.htm - if you had cast signposts you needed fewer letter masters if they were all uppercase. The new signposts featuring upper ad lower case were legal from from 1st January 1965 - their whole history of here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_signs_in_the_United_Kingdom Have I interpreted what you want correctly?
