I tend to glue and clamp only, in theory screws, nails etc are only there to hold the joint together until the glue has dried and set. In our modelling sort of application I don't think any additional strength possibly provided by screws is particularly necessary, although it does speed up construction as the screws take the place of clamps.

Thanks for the heads up. That's answered one of my supply queries on my eurowagon in the UK bodging, (Lima/Roco/Fleischmann etc).

These aren’t available for P4 if anyone was wondering
Not yet anyway, they're still looking for a box big enough for a hair shirt to fit in as well!

Independent brakes each side were reserved for bottom door mineral wagons, 2 V hangers each side, no cross shaft and no dog clutch required, and do-able with a bit of modelling from the Airfix kit. The Cambrian version of the LMS mineral has this right.

Apologies for drifting slightly, but if we don't have one of everything, as mammoth a task as that might be, then we are editing history to our own requirements.

I know lightweight baseboards are all the rage, but I think you've gone a bit too far!

You should try being a foreigner Phil, you need the powers of Mystic Meg, which regrettably I don't posses in enough depth, so, too many unfinished/part started projects!

Interesting to see how others approach things Mike. Did you ever get around to tackling that kitmaster meat van?
Funny you should mention that.
Yes and no!
I gave it a coat of looking at and even made a start, but as I was doing it in lockdown stranded in another country with just a basic ish tool set, there were things I wanted to do with it which I needed my tools and equipment from home to continue with.
As you've mentioned it, I'll move the other projects out of the way (I seem to be working in scattergun mode at the moment!) and continue with it and keep you updated via your topic.

Found it, I think.

Yes, don't glue the container down, it does give you some wiggle room, then superglue the shackles and chains up solid afterwards to prevent sagging.
My pics are on the forum somewhere!

Agreed Phil, although I initially hoped from the title that someone had found a stash of EM1's!

I had a funny feeling you were working from a prototype.
They've obviously hung them upside down!

Not being anything of an expert on cattle dock gates but, like ledged and braced doors, shouldn't the diagonals be the other way up?

Having been in a similar situation with stock myself in the past, I just finished it off in its wrong state and hoped nobody would notice, which up to press I've got away with, and built further one(s) correctly, just keep them apart!
Now with every kit I attempt I research the prototype as I don't necessarily trust the manufacturer, especially relevant with Parkside kits!

I like that.
A kit, availability?

I see he's fallen into the sample point overweathering trap!

There were some examples where all but the top end-vent had been removed, and the apertures plated over.
If you buy one of the Parkside 12t standard vans, I believe you get a spare set of doors.
It's not that simple, I am currently ploughing my own furrow with one of these kits and Dave has very kindly allowed me to jump on board here and generally create mayhem. I shall be along asap!

Very timely.
I've got one of these coming to help prevent LFM (Lockdown Fever Madness) with a view to giving it a coat of looking at, so I'm in!

A good idea which solves the initial problem, but you've now got far more fiddleyard than layout, just seems a tad unbalanced IMHO, and as you stated you're short of space to set it up in its extended form.
Personally, I'd just move the locking mechanism to a position where it doesn't show, it's only for alignment purposes so it's ultimate position doesn't matter.

Is your bathroom weathered to the same level as the hut?!!

Excellent modelling.
Congratulations on going about it the "hard" way!
Personally I would have bottled it and just used an old RTR coach or kit.

Congratulations on your commitment and workmanship.
Having seen classic cars like that, it seems a case for jack up the buffers and replace everything between!
