A few photos taken in Leeds at various times for this evening. Sometimes when visiting somewhere you simply have to put up with dreadful light and try to come home with some sort of photo. This was much harder in film days when you couldn't see the results until the film was processed. Some of these photos were taken on days like that. Something of a German miscellany tonight. Quite often when I'm sorting out photos I come across one or two of a place which don't always fit into a neat group to post. The second batch of photos today are on the Highland line north of Inverness - in fact ending up as far north as you can get. As most of you know trains are a bit few and far between in that part of the world so some of the shots are infrastructure, I hope you will still like them. It's time we visited a new location for the Sunday afternoon preservation spot, so we'll travel back in time to 27th May 1991 when the rope hauled incline was being demonstrated at the Bowes Railway using a rake of NCB wagons. Sadly rope haulage is no longer working. The demonstrations involved working wagons up and down the bank using the winding engine at Blackham's Hill. On this visit it was also possible to travel in steam hauled brake vans to a separate platform using a junction part way up the incline from Springwell. The Bowes Railway is situated on the south side of Gateshead, just off the A1. The site is open on selected dates, details are on the Bowes Railway website.
