Tonight we'll move to another part of Switzerland to look at the BLS - Bern Lötschberg Simplon Bahn. The photos were taken at Faulensee, the first station from Spiez on the line to Interlaken. The lake in the background is the Thunersee (Lake Thun). It is also the junction for the Sudostbahn. We're travelling back in time to September 1970 this afternoon to visit an Open Day at Tyseley. Various locos were arranged around the yard, Clun Castle and Kolaphur were working a top and tailed train up and down the connecting line to BR. 5428 was also in steam, having been named Eric Treacey. From memory it was a cool blustery day with rain late in the afternoon just about when we left. At the time I was using some Anscochrome slide film rated at ASA (ISO) 200, very fast for its day but it didn't keep well in the long term. A look at Herisau in North East Switzerland for today. One one side of the road is the Bodensee Toggenburg Bahn station (now part of the Sudostbahn), on the other side is the metre gauge Appenzeller Bahnen station. Herisau is on the BT line from St Gallen which leads eventually to Luzern along lines owned by the SOB and SBB. Some photos taken at Swayfield today, on Stoke Bank between Stoke Tunnel and Peterborough, in the early 70s It was always a pleasant place to visit, with good views of the railway, at this time with a bridge parapet of just the right height to lean on and some nice countryside. The only downside was that the barking from a nearby kennels could be quite loud, depending on the wind direction. It was also quite close to where I lived at the time. Many thanks for identifying the loco, the one in m1979 IRS Handbook must have been its replacement. I've altered the caption (again). I've looked at that photo many times and never noticed the overlap and power feed, many thanks for the information. David

Many thanks for your comment, reading your post reminded me that I have a 1979 copy of the Industrial Railways Society Handbook. According to them the loco at West Horndon (Brown and Tawse Tubes Ltd) was a Ruston Hornsby, 373359 of 1958 and was out of use in 1979. That might also explain the tube wagons in the photo. I've altered my caption under the photo. David

I'm not sure and I can't get any more details from the image scan as I have enlarged it up from a small part of a slide. I think I took the photo from a train going past the works, so it wasn't all that sharp to start with either. David
