  1. The train is on the WCML north of the station, approaching the site of Caldew Junction. Just out of shot to the right is the site of the Caledonian Railway goods yard, the road is now called Viaduct Estate Road. The freight avoiding line was the far side of the Caledonian Goods line, it joined the main line just north of this photo at Caldew Junction. I'm afraid I've forgotten what the plaque is for. David
  2. I have to admit that when I posted the photo this evening I did wonder whether the second loco might be a Class 87, but my notes said 86. What do others think? David

  19. Many thanks. You are correct - I got the caption right when I sorted out the photos for today and must have been thinking of something else when I wrote the actual post today! I've corrected it. David
  20. We're travelling back in time to September 1970 this afternoon to visit an Open Day at Tyseley. Various locos were arranged around the yard, Clun Castle and Kolaphur were working a top and tailed train up and down the connecting line to BR. 5428 was also in steam, having been named Eric Treacey. From memory it was a cool blustery day with rain late in the afternoon just about when we left. At the time I was using some Anscochrome slide film rated at ASA (ISO) 200, very fast for its day but it didn't keep well in the long term.
