that would be good we started at 19kgs per mile in January and are now at 26kgs per mile - definatley not more diesels - or if if must be then a Warship or a Western - as for woodburners - good fun, but much harder than coal

Sadly you can't go as quick lol bring on the Caley 060

  3. Chris also took a nice colour slide of a 76 arriving at Fordingbridge heading north - I was lucky enough to aquire the original last year.
  4. Indeed they have theu have a couple of nice rare views of the back of the station. From it you can clearly see how the postbox was moved from the platofrm to the rear of the building. We should also remember the article in British Railways Illustrated on a days spotting at Broadstone. It contains details of all the trains spotted and some usefull photos. Tim are you ok if we add photos into this stream as well?
  5. Also remember that members of the South Western Circle can borrow portfollios which have both documents, some plans and photos. South Western Circle portfollio- The Sailisbury and Dorset South Western Circle portfollio - Castlemans Corkscrew - has some photos of West Moors Modelling Railways Illustrated ---- plan of the footbridge at West Moors HMRS Vol issue plans of Breamore HMRS Vol issue a waiting shelter for Verwood by Mick Hutson Steam Days March 2000 The Fordingbridge Line I will check and insert when i find the copies.
  6. Moving briefly off the main route, I came across this nice photo of the signal box at Coldstream on the last day. My link and no doubt many of you have found the excellent Northumbrian railways web site, again for consistency again here is Coldstream My link Although there is lots of very nice stuff such as the Border Counties My link As for the rebuilding it can't come soon enough to be able to ride on it for the very first time
  7. Hi, Yes, Stuart is very alive and well, and still enjoying himself on footplates from time to time. I know he had put together alot of information on various lines, however the last time i chatted to him he mentioned that with some of the photographers passing away he had found it harder to get permission from some of the families.
  8. Lovely to see Highland stock on here, a great thread. Geoff is a member so will probably see your post. the design of the spacers is so that you can put the spacers where you want to fit your own motor, gear train and overall frame set up preferences. Generally they work quite well, although i agree its different to some others. Did you manage to get the body as a spare?
  9. Finally finished the galleries in the members only section of the S&D trust web site and its live, now just need to finish a stack of drawings to keep adding to it.

  10. Releasing information on coal consumption to footplate crews, wonder how many other railways know how much they burn per mile in Kgs - Best of all we were more efficent last year than in the pervious 5.

  11. If you want a nice original slide of Looe there is one on ebay now, my link, but is it worth £102????
  12. After 20 years on the footplate - finally I get a day on 4566, its avoided me up till now, apart from preping it for others!

Yes apart from when the pump does not work, its fully loaded with 8 mk 1s and crap coal.

Only took 90 mins to dig out!

  13. You are quite right on this, I was at Higley today measuring for 82045 and took the time to look at the mogul. The washouts are exactly as you have done. The floor is flat and does not have splashers. The one thing i remembered when looking at it is the atomiser is a coil rather than as shown in your photo, but that could be an SVR thing. Really enjoying seeing you make a loveley engine out of a basic kit. Best wishes Duncan
  14. Hi, I think it must have been a trick of the light, please see this photofor a photo clearly showing the RHS washouts at the top. Kind regards Duncan
  15. I would be amazed if our boilersmiths altered a firebox in this way. I will see if i've got any photos, if not i need to go to Highley to measure the reverser spring bracket on 79 for 82045 so will take some photos. Might be next weekend though, not sure. Kind regards Duncan
  16. Nick, I've updated the thread, hopefully Coachman might read this and be able to help Kind regards Duncan
  17. Sorry just seen your post, I may have will have a look through that part of my collection for you. What detail are you looking for? Kind regards Duncan
  18. I've just created a topic in Uk prototype 'Johnson 58047'
  19. Hi Nick, please find attached two photos of 47 one from each side both taken in March 1951 at Highbridge. I can't find a way of attaching the photo so will do a topic for you in prototype Regards Duncan
  20. Further to your question about the vaccum operated regulator these are my thoughts based on the type of regulator fitted - I do not know 100% The 1Ps were fitted with a vertical regulator so as the regulator was moved a lever moved upwards or downwards depending on if opened or closed to open an intital pilot valve and then the main steam valve. On a normal engine the main steam valve then allowed steam through to the cylinders. Looking now at the vacuum operated ones the apparatus was on the side of the smokebox in line with were the main steam pipes split to go to the two cylinders. Therefore it would look likley that the vacuum moves the lever you talk about up and down to open and close a smaller valve. inside the smokebox on the main steam pipe. Thinking about how stiff a 3f regulator is to move (the nearest i have experienced) a vaccum operated system would need more of a lever effect to move the acutal regulator handle. Therefore I would suggest that the process would be a signal from the driving cab to signal to the fireman to open the regulator/ close the regulator with the vaccum controlled appuratus giving the fine control the driver wanted. Moving onto your build its very nice, if you want a photo of the engine in LMS livery I might have one in my neg collection. will check for you.
  21. This is really interesting, thanks for all the photos, I've got the etches for one (reduced to 4mm to build) so this is a great help Kind regards Duncan
  22. That may be true, however if a complaint is made would ebay do anything anyway?
  23. Finished the frame drawing of the Stanier 2-6-2, next for the valve gear, has anyone see any ex BR drawings for the cab or bunker?
