33008 at Fareham with the 1205 Cardiff-Portsmouth on 181085. Fareham was a hive of activity every hour for a few minutes as on bailing the Northbound Bristol would arrive 33021 on this day, a thumper would also be on the Eastleigh shuttle and the whole thing repeated every hour or so... 33109 at Kenny O with the Alresford Clipper tour on 030793. The "Crompton" had worked form Bedford via BY and did Southfields on departure after naming Captain Bill Smith. They shut the loco down for the naming, a bit anxious she wouldnt restart, no problems tho! NR http://www.leightonlogs.org -

Laira was still rail served until late 2013, Gourock, Oban, Weymouth Q and Mallaig had facilities for the ferrys to fuel Power Stations Oil trains used on occasions for big loads to start boilers, eg Didcot, Rugeley Industrial plants Many steel works and large units also had regular oil traffic in addition to a variety of traffic these plants dealt with any more??? -

A "South Wales steamer" in 37187 steaming gently at Cranmore with the "Mendip Artificer" tour from St Pancras. 37189 was tailing, 45121 did most of the tour plus a short burst from 08849 to part of the Highworth branch on 210184. the "steamers" were classic overnight passenger machines in South Wales in the late 70's. The LCGB bulletin for August 1971 lists this gem... 8116 dragged 5119/5127 Polmadie - Derby Works, 5285 worked the drag forward from Carlisle..back on 110671. Apologies if already covered but did Derby rather than St Rollox or Inverurie (in earlier times) not do the works overhauls on the HBS??
