  6. The point about after sales is very important. There is a parallel with the Morris Minor and VW Beetle, both of which were exported in large numbers to the USA. The Beetle took off and became the more popular car partly because Morris & later BMC, had nowhere near the same level of dealer support in the USA as VW.

  9. I always thought that our train building industry was something of a cottage industry, compared to the likes of the European manufacturers, let alone the Yanks.

  11. By the 1980's, having built one up, we decided we didn't need it after all, and let it go to waste....
  12. Yeah. Crompton's could shift. Not spectacularly, but once they got up to 80+ they stayed there.
