  1. A 3D printer can be purchased from ebay for about 200 pounds but to produce high quality work for jewellery (or model trains) the printer would be much more expensive. Somebody on another thread said this type of top quality printer can cost up to 100,000 pounds. Is this correct ? It does seem very high.
  2. Rectangular wagons yes....but please, no more salt wagons ! I think the RTR guys have produced more than enough salt wagons over the years. Surely they were not that common ? I think we could use Hydras, Serpents and Loriots (and similar for other railway companies). I think I read somewhere that this type of wagon was once as common as the 5 plank open wagons but they are not seen as much in the modelling world. RTR seemed to have ignored them which is surprising given that there is enormous scope there for producing the various loads these wagons carried. I also agree about sticking with pre grouping era wagons as these hung around for a long time.
  3. It is time for project ''LAZARUS''. We need those wagons ! I wonder if Bachmann or Hornby have at any time considered the production of wagon kits ?
  4. Did you do anything around the wheels ? I weather with an airbrush and I always worry about doing the wheels.
  5. Was the piss supplied free or was there a charge for this ? The contract to collect piss from the pubs must have been quite lucrative ! Was it sent in barrels like beer ?
  6. That is very interesting. Surely there is somebody with the necessary skills to fix this single machine ? The situation seems quite odd !
  7. First we have to know what the problem is : the moulds may be perfectly okay and the problem could lie elsewhere. But there is no doubt that the absence of the Coopercraft and Slaters wagon kits has left a large gap in the plastic wagon kit market. I did not realise how much I depended on them for modelling the LMS and GWR.
  8. What sort of camera have you mounted on the trains ? The view as it goes over the points is wonderful.
  9. This is what I do not fully understand. Who actually manufacturers these model now if it is not Hornby ? I assume that in times past Hornby did make their own models and they had full control. Why did they switch to the current system over which they have no control.....how is this an improvement ?
  10. The light coloured plastics such as green and blue plastic seem to be the worst offenders ; darker colours do not look so bad.
  11. Has anybody installed Kaydees on their Peckett yet ? I just want to see what it looks like.
  12. What sort of motor have Hornby put in this loco ? (Sorry if this has already been asked)
  13. Any chance of a photo of a moulding machine ? I really have no idea at all what they look like. How are the moulds made ?
  14. The costs of O gauge locos are coming down but the O gauge wagons are still much more expensive than OO gauge wagons. I love building wagons but it is the cost of O gauge wagons kits that put me off the larger scale.
  15. It is those early 4 and 5 plank open GWR wagons I really miss. As for 3D printing : I think it has a long way to go before you can get highly detailed models using that technology.
  16. I am hoping for something in Crimson Lake ( or just ''lake'' as it was known by the GWR). This seemed to be a popular colour for many railway companies in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A loco always looks smart when painted in this colour and given some yellow lining.
  17. On model steam engines the displacement lubricator is placed on the steam inlet. What is it doing on the chimney here ?
  18. Why so many locos for a brewery ? Business could not have been that good !
  19. Has anybody weathered their loco yet ?
  20. Did these small industrial loco use a brake van when pulling a rake of wagons ? What sort of brake van was it ?
  21. I have found some notes I made about 5 years ago regarding GWR brake van markings. I got this information from the internet somewhere so perhaps somebody would care to comment. The top panels are easy : GW on the end panels with the single name beside the G. For the bottom panels : number them from left to right with the verandah being counted as one panel. Then the wagon number will be in panel #2 and the ''20 tons'' will be in panel #4. This does seems to match up with most photos but not all.
  22. They seems to be all sold out already...that was quick. Perhaps Hornby have found their niche in the market place
  23. And we rarely get to see a photo of both sides of the same brake van : I think I will leave my Ratio brake van as is although I suspect that it may be incorrect. Hornby, Mainline and Ratio cannot seem to agree either so I am in good company.
