  1. Radio 3 is perfectly capable of playing some decent, proper classical music but why do they have to deviate so often into the realms of psuedo-arty intellectual guff? Each time I turn over from Classic FM, in despair at the inane, repetitive adverts, I find some pontificating person spouting some clap-trap or the strident and discordant tones of modern so-called 'music' (or else it's jazz - aaargh!).

Modern image music - can you define it.

Did it start in the late 1950s with the pilot music scheme but we still had all the classical stuff.

Did it begin in 1968 when Radio 1 banned all classical music from it's airwaves and only lesser channels could broadcast it, thank goodness though that a lot of the old classics ended up in a South Wales shop gathering dust.

Or is modern image music just rap and only covering the post privatisation period of Classic FM.

Mind you, any station that plays Ravel's 'Bolero' should be sent to the Naughty Corner for several weeks.

"Or is modern image music just rap ..."

For some reason, I'm reminded of an old "Spitting Image" song (actually about politics - but this detail doesn't matter here) - in which they refer to "rap with a capital C".

As for Ravel's Bolero, I've never been a fan of that one, either.

Anyway, returning to the subject of music, I've got a box set of Mozart symphonies in my hand.

That's right - in my part of the Eastern Valley, "the hills are alive with the sound of music" ... .
