  1. Radio 3 is perfectly capable of playing some decent, proper classical music but why do they have to deviate so often into the realms of psuedo-arty intellectual guff? Each time I turn over from Classic FM, in despair at the inane, repetitive adverts, I find some pontificating person spouting some clap-trap or the strident and discordant tones of modern so-called 'music' (or else it's jazz - aaargh!).

This is the mission statement for Radio 3

"Radio 3 is a place for anyone who needs a space to think or take a time out. It connects its audiences with the very best of music and culture from outstanding classical concerts to full length radio dramas, Slow Radio to sound art innovations, world premieres to lost and forgotten gems."

You clearly only ever switch on during the 'sound art innovations' segment - think that is from 3.01am to 2:59am.

Why not try it at 3am on the first Tuesday in February during a leap year for the glorious rejoicing sounds of silence.

Well, I guess it's either that or invest in a CD player and some box sets of Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven etc.

I know that my CD player has been working overtime recently.

I agree with your complaints about the arty types on R3, and of their Modern Image music, although some of the Jazz output isn't that bad.

What you need is one of those Brennan HD "jukebox" machines, swallows your CD collection onto its hard disk and then can regurgitate it in any manner you desire.  Set on "random" and its just like Classic FM, bleeding chunks of your favourites, without presenters, news or adverts!
