  1. The south of the UK is getting a continental low pressure system at the moment, but if you live north of the 'M4 corridor', then they say you're OK (and why can't they call it the 'Great Western Main Line corridor'...?!)
  2. Happy Easter everyone

Happy Easter CK. Did you get a parsnip Easter egg?

  3. Got to be - no 'Cathedrals Express' headboard on today's train!
  4. The signalman's ride home though the lanes across the Somerset Levels after the end of late turn:
  5. It is a little known fact that the NCB purchased a redundant J72 from BR in the 1950s, and used it a number of collieries in the south of England for a while: It rarely received the attention of any cleaners...
  6. There was Nobody Inn, but I had a fantastic meal and some great beer nonetheless!

Given the difficulty that our SavNav had in finding the place, I'm surprised that anyone else can too!

I always added a bit of interest before the advent of the great electronic dashboard compass by allowing my then wife to direct me to our destination. As they say "it's always better to travel than arrive". I believe we were the fore-runners to Wallis and Grommets- "A grand Day Out" !

Sat Nav swmbo style.. "Turn left"

Points with right hand "No!! that left"

  7. Nice one, Craig, but I'm duty-bound to point out that both trains will also be passing Taunton later on that afternoon! We're giving up the Sat night to Mon morning blockade between Newton Abbot and Dawlish Warren for an hour or so on the Sunday afternoon, to ensure that the VSOE and GB7 can pass through. That's a pity, Will - is there no cheap fare that you can get at this stage?
  8. Yes, he is, I know the gentleman concerned. Yes, very likely to be the case, it also gives the residents a bit of a rest, and as you can see, a roadway has been restored now, albeit not yet metalled. This is the case, as I have tried to allude to earlier, public access to certain areas is unfortunately still blocked off, albeit for very good reasons. The Project Team are very much aware of the need to reopen more of the walkway and beach areas as soon as practicable to do so.
  9. What's happening now is that ducts are being installed in the trench, to enable services to be reconnected. Utility companies will come in to do their bit next week, after Easter. It may look odd to see the trench being dug in this way, but this is how it was planned.
  10. I think this is work on the down platform, which I observed when my Down Voyager stopped there on Monday evening. Not sure about the background yet, I don't think it's 'our' work as such... If a formal complaint has been raised, best let that take its course.
  11. Actually, I've just not had time, work-wise, Dawlish is still right up there on the work radar, but the focus inevitably shifts somewhat once the trains start running. Much effort is now being put into the behind-the-scenes planning etc. to ensure that the remaining works get completed. I'm very grateful to Granitechops for his webcam image captures, which are most helpful in showing progress on the restoration of the road.
  12. That's such a shame, isn't it? - because all good RMWebbers will be at the Members Day in Taunton!
  13. Sorry, I don't think there's any photographic records of the Hymeks working on the FoD lines **. They did work on the nearby Tintern Quarry line, though (remains of old Wye Valley line). ** Edit - I'd love to be corrected on that point!
  14. Actually, I'm somewhat saddened to see that up for sale so soon. Can't folk simply enjoy their stick of rock, or give it to some relation kiddie somewhere? Why try to make money out of a gift under these circumstances? Assuming some haven't done so already.... Utilities next, I believe, then a proper Tarmac surface next week. Agreed, and this is precisely why we found it necessary to build the deep toe foundations between 10 and 15 years ago, without which, we would have been looking at the loss of much more of the wall this winter just gone.
  15. Major incidents involving Voyagers in October 2004 and December 2005. Yes, there are trigger levels and a complete Operating Protocol to govern it, plus a sophisticated externally-sourced weather forecast every 12 hours. I could go on (but I won't), suffice to say that the whole thing is tightly controlled and managed.
  16. Another day, another Voyager journey and another person who thinks that normal ticketing rules don't apply to them...

Well to be fair, would you think a Voyager journey is worth full fare? An HST perhaps.

  17. If you are still around on Saturday, 'Sir Nigel Gresley' is making another trip to Kingswear...
  18. I know that some will find the closure of the public areas frustrating, but please bear with us. I know for a fact that the project team will do everything they can to reopen the remaining public areas as soon as they can. What may seem illogical will have a reason behind it, so this will all be in the interests of getting the remaining works done - not all of which are going to be that easy - as soon as possible. Thanks.
  19. Not being funny, but are you sure about that? I know that the last of the D600 Warships was scrapped in the early 1980s (was it actually 1980?) in Barry Scrapyard, but I thought the Class 22s all got cut up a lot earlier than that?
  20. The camera is actually bolted to someones balcony...
  21. I was on that one, had to change at Newton Abbot! And that's the one I caught home to Totnes from Newton Abbot!
  22. Superb, Martin, utterly wonderful, thanks for posting those. Did you ever find another pork pie as good as the one you had at Parkend, by the way?
