  1. Does NR still have inspection saloons are have they gone the way of the dinosaurs? Regards
  2. My maroon example has been dispatched, I ordered it at around 10.30 this morning! Regards
  3. IIRC (and I might not) the small yellow panel on locos was introduced c1962-3 but the corporate blue is a c1966 jobby. I haven't seen any photos of maroon saloons with a yellow panel but the brake tenders (something that was also intended to be pushed at first) certainly had them before the end of steam. Regards
  4. Wheels ordered from Ultrascale, I was looking at Dapol not Model Rail! Regards, thanks a lot.
  5. My thanks to Buffalo and Curlew; I must have been looking in the wrong place! Regards
  6. I've just this week acquired one of these from Kernow and very good it looks too. I'll give it a go on Thurs on the club's OO layout but does anyone have advice on a P4 conversion? I've looked at Captain Kernow's posts early on in the thread but I don't have a lathe, Ultrascale don't do wheels and the AGW Lowmac wheels are too big. Be grateful for advice. Regards
  7. Are these side corridors internal to the coach or external side corridor connections? Regards
  8. MJT seem to only do the riveted variety. Comet do both, Wizard do neither, are there any other potential suppliers? Regards
  9. It's great that Bachmann have done this, of course it is. But ... I'm left with much the same feeling as I have when one of the preserved railways announce the appearance of a pre-group engine for a gala. Where is the pre-group stock? Or even the post-group? The answer is of course that there isn't much because very few people could be interested in preserving it when it was around. Now RTR manufacturers seem to be doing the pre-group engines but there isn't much interest in doing the coaching stock. History, after a fashion, is repeating itself. The 'train set' concept could work here. Regards
  10. I prefer sprung buffers simply because I like to couple as closely as possible. Even then the vehicles are too far apart. I'll have to have a look when I get the coach. Thanks for the info, Regards
  11. Thanks for that and apologies to PCM! Regards
  12. Sorry to be nit-picking (perhaps outrageously so, really sorry), but did 97407 have the red stripe on the axleboxes? My understanding is that the red stripe became obsolete in around 1964 when the previously experimental type of axle grease (which the red stripe denoted) became the adopted standard. Regards
  13. My BR maroon example is in the post from Hattons as I write and I'm looking forward to it. I'm also taking note of the comments re buffers, bogies etc and wondering how to replace the sprung buffers with others that are sprung. All will no doubt become clear on arrival. My thanks to Larry and others for their comments. I think my order to Comet might get to quite large proportions. Replacement bogies I had assumed, but now a supply of buffer heads as well. Not a problem, it's rare for a RTR manufacturer not to get something wrong and the model looks to be a cracker. Regards
  14. I have one ordered from Hattons and as it hasn't arrived yet I took a look at my basket on their website. I found that their default delivery is for the customer to pick up at their shop. I wonder what percentage of Hattons customers live within Liverpool? I have changed the delivery to post! Regards
  15. I've ordered a BR Maroon example from Hattons. A little expensive perhaps but I'm looking forward to it. Regards
  16. I think there is. The Bachmann 08 is several mm out of loading gauge. Can't comment about the Hornby but the Bachmann constantly collides with platforms etc. Considering just how popular this model is (and therefore how many are sold), there is an opportunity going begging for one of the finescale manufacturers. Regards
  17. I saw one these today at Scout Green, light engine going north. I thought it was an attractive engine with an unusual sounding dieseasel. Regards
  18. My books have been put away because I'm decorating, but I'm not so sure that the Belpaire boiler was introduced during the MR period. The Johnson boiler survived until the late fifties I think. Regards
  19. I have just acquired my NCB example and I have found that the side sheets are separate from the cab. This has the effect that there is a 'step' in the lining, which is a disappointment. Other than that the loco is fine, a little noisy perhaps, but it runs OK with the Ultrascale P4 wheel conversion. Regards
  20. I must read LMS Coaches again! My thanks to Larry and Dave. Regards
  21. Judging by the conversation earlier between Larry and Dave, would it be fair to say that both Bachmann & Hornby have both got their bogies mixed up? Ie Hornsby's offerings are not quite right for the pre-porthole stock? Further to this, which of the suppliers of castings would a modeller go to for pre-porthole and porthole stock? Regards
  22. What is 0n2 & Gn2? As much as I like NG both in model and full size form, there's an awful lot of alphabet soup! Regards
  23. I've just received mine from Hattons at £33; good service. Looking at the bogies the axleboxes seem a little shallow and measure 27mm, give or take, over them. I can't find drawing which gives the overall dimension full size. Does anyone else? Regards
  24. Just ordered one and a BR Mk1, all too easy by web! Are their any hints as to when maroon examples will be on sale? Regards
