Agreed, Stubby, re. the farm. The labs might have a 11kV / 415V substation on the premises if they were a big user, or you could postulate a larger substation off scene. In densely populated or industriallized areas, such sub stations are often within a few hundred yards of each other, there is always justification to include one in an odd corner of any post war layout.
