  9. Hi, would anyone happen to know a good website with info on Crewe Electric Depot? regards
  10. Ulitimately the Class 20s lasted because they were ideal for the job. A pair of 20s on 42 HAA's ex Bentinck, Silverhill, Sutton, etc etc, had enough power, abilitiy to put it downa nd stop etc. A single 25 was underpowered, a pair over powered. Even a 47 and certainly a 56 and 58 were more rthan sufficient for "most" MGR working. The 20s were solid, dependable and reliable........
  11. It's a bit of an overkill to put several large planks across a door to hold it shut. besides the door would open inwards and planks on the outside wouldn't hold it closed.
  12. Hi, in this pic https://www.railexpress.co.uk/the-first-08s/ anyone any ideas why the door has planks of wood wedged in the handrails??
  13. the 08 sounds rather interesting???
  14. Hi, would anyone know the current allocation of TYseley depot? and whether it ahd any 08s.? Old maps.co.uk usually has some good maps but oddly the ones for the depot are either the smaller scale ones or don't show the parts of the depot. would anyone happen to have a map of the depot at all?
  15. That’s the building I’m referring to, but was how the author of the book described a building “behind the station buildings”...... but the building in the pic would be better placed for a relief cabin.....
  16. I wondered if that was the building he was referring to....... always thought it p-way cabin later on? Was it used as a relief point much?
  17. just reading some Modern Railways issues and much was made of the blunt end cabs of the 91s for use on parcels and postal workings............ where they ever used on such workings on a regualr basis?
  18. Just reading the excellent Bill Alcock a Lcoman's log, 1937-85 and in it he mentions going to the relif cabin at chesterfield "behind the station buildings" can anyone shed any more light on where/what this building this was like?
