  1. anyone anyone know by who and when these were painted?
  2. Part 1 = LMR Central and Western (Southern) lines, so, London Western Division, Birmingham Division Stoke and Chester Divisions Manchester Division Liverpool Division over 25 depots are profiled separately and a further half dozen or more looked at. Wouldn't have thought so, the point of a bookazine is that they are available on the shelves of newagents.
  3. there'll be a series covering the countries diesel depots, but no, not a monthly mag, but out roughly each 3 months
  4. Afternoon would anyone happen to know why the doors of Stewarts Lane depot were painted with the logos of Trainload Construction and Railfreight Distribution?
  5. Smiths have their deliveries direct from their own distribution depot on a Friday, so it will be shops tomorrow (Friday).
  6. The bookazine landed this morn. Slightly larger than A4,
  7. Look out for a good pic of it in "on shed - LMR part 1"
  8. Afternoon to be one sale from Thursday 8th February is Part one of a new Series on Diesel Depots. They will be in "Bookazine" format, slightly wider than A4 and sold through WH Smiths. Part 1, LMR - Central and Western (South) lines covers BR's LMR Divisions of: London (Western), Birmingham, Stoke, Liverpool and Manchester.
  9. yes they were and if they'd have been air brakes they'd prob have continued for longer, it was only the introduction of the class 60:s tbat curtailed their use.... although was converted to air brakes but evidently not successfully....
  10. Saw a pic tonight of a class 25 with a W sticker for western lines. Seen plenty of M fit midland, but never a W, how common/uncommon where they???
  11. Evening, yeah I did a quick google search and found that, I had a date in 1986, but on re-reading the British Engine Sheds Directory, that was te demolition date, not the closure date, thank you, Beast66606
  12. Would anyone happen to know when Edge Hill depot closed? https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue-diesels/14631026334/in/photolist-ohTQoJ-qWbasb-fyPcxi-7vvTMg-fTk5j-BTNvXG-9pgGdM-kfuaiF-e6DqjC-e8sp9m-JQedth-9HH1Zv-a6gdfG-aWPwTV-9MMcfs-4nupyv-wnim4q-TF3G3V-XJyLpQ-GdAZ8Z-dpavVw-drcVXu-nR2s1s-SoyZpP-a2MMe8-9Jtkeb-4mL4sB-byerY3-96rc1z-dt1ANV-e3rFFy-kfsD5B-S9LjqJ-zDemvL-Soz18x-kfrFs6-RzGQ7M-7i27sS-96Ud5o-9ptQzv-aYnpz2-qZZAKn-dLKv7v-o1A763-dhCTL7-kfvrzC-a8ZJw4-5c8NBf-9pgGFr-rf3n5a
  13. that is the one I'm thinking of? it stood until fairly recently, I'm presume its knocked down now?
  14. Would anyone happen to know what the building at Derby across the lines from the power box was used for? It was as single track building with a central row of small chimneys and had large chequered doors.... It stood into the 2000s I think and in the 80s and 90s often housed the resident 08................? The building however isn't to be confused with the two road fuelling shed which was closer to the station, this was a different brick built building with large glazed windows.
  15. I really like the BR Database site as it is a great pointer to "roughly" what happened, but, and to be fair it would have been a massive job to have done so, it's not 100% accurate, but it has great functionality and usefulness.......
  16. Alittle bit of made up history for this micro layout, At Shilllston Road once stood a large Midland Railway roundhouse steam shed. As 18E it was sub-shed of Toton and lay on the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire border of the area's extensive coalfield. With a Type 4 loaned by Toton in July 1962 the depot's men were trained on the type and the depot's turns were gradually dieselised with Type 1 and Type 4s allocated to Toton. As the roundhouse was suffering from mining subsidence however its roof was removed and a new single track diesel servicing shed was built on the south side of the shed in June 1963. After Shilllston Road closed to steam on 14th September 1964 it continued to stable diesels with a Class 08 for yard shunting, four to six pairs of Class 20s for unfitted colliery traffic along with a couple of Class 47s for fitted power station coal being the most common. With the miner's strike however the signing on point was closed in 1985 but the sidings are still used as a crew relief point with the odd loco left in between turns on the former depot.
  17. Hi Ian, I love the look of the layout, "but" may I ask what the point of the yard is? there's no access to the where houses and there's not enough room to unload the wagons to a lorry etc, so why would the wagons be put into that siding fenced in and isolated?
  18. Just wondered if any one knew where 31293 was allocated in 1983, my usual source, the BR Database doesn't go up to then for it......
  19. would be interesting to see a few for the LMR divisions.
  20. Morning just wondered, the Nottingham Division of the LMR had a wll thought out ist of last two digits for destinations within the Division as below (first few lines) 50 Toton Down Yard 51 Toton North Yard 52 Toton Up Yard Arrivals 53 Toton Up Old Bank 54 Toton diesel depot 55 Stanton Gate New Works Branch 56 Stanton Gate New Sidings But wondered if the other LMR divisions had something similar? I presume they did??
  21. where they on the shed building or stabled somewhere else?
  22. well the shed by shed books report that the depot still had an allocation of Class 08s until 1972 and the Engine shed directory make mention of it being used after closure to steam...........
  23. urprised to see Lostcok Hall got a TOPS code. I see it cesaed to have an allocation in April 1972, but when did it close fully??
  24. in 1988 when the doesel depot shut. the 08s were transferred to upperby
  25. Anyone any ideas why the "newer" Carlisle Kingmoor diesel depot was acated in favour of the "older" Upperby" depot?
