  4. Just reading a 1991 Railway World mag, and it states that, Four 31/1s 31243/389/299/320 were to converted to sandite uniots and gain ADB numbers as ZZX vehicles.... they were to retain driving controls to enable them to be compatiable with other blue star cided locos but have their traction equipment removed..... not read or seen anything else about this... did it ever happen, I'm guessing not...?
  5. Generally, but as with EVERYTHING on the railway, things are never always the same everywhere and an exception will always be found. Yes, usually when a point lever is in the frame, that is its NORMAL positon but that doesn;t alwayhs mean that the actual point will be in the "conventional" normal poistion, i.e. set for through running and not a diferging route. In one particular Peak District signal box, the "Normal" poistion of a point, (in the frame) is to send a train off the main running line and onto the Up/Down through Siding. Also RE signals, yes normally a signal in the frame is ON, i.e. at Danger, but two signal levers (in the above box) when they are IN the Frame, the signals are OFF! and when they are OUT of the frame the signals are ON!
  6. Evening, Just wondered if (before I emabrk on what could be a lot of wasted work) there is already something out there that explains history BR's Regions and Divisions and their managers etc. Only I;ve stared to compile a very basic hisotry at the moment as a part below shows, but just wondered if there was already anythging out there or if anyone else has done any similar work?? Southern Region South Western Division <12.1970 Mr. Cliff Rose (Left to take over the running of the South Eastern Division) >12.1970 Mr. Llew Edwards (Former head of SR’s Planning Office) South Eastern Division, <12.1970 Mr. David Binnie (Became the SR’s Assistant General Manager with responsibility for the SR’s commercial policies >12.1970 Mr. Cliff Rose Central Division, @12.1970 Mr. Frank Paterson (41 years old – came from Cardiff April 1970)

  8. Evening After EWS closed Doncaster Depot, would anyone happen to know what happened to the sight?
  9. Hi, would anyone happen to have any pics of the Class 20s and 31s etc that were used at Colwick, especially in that period after closure to steam. Such depots that closed in the very late 1960s/early 1970s, are a real fascination.
  10. Pickering station, while not originally a terminus station, it is now and has one

  13. Afternoon would nayone happen to know the current stat of Landore depot? With the IEP trains is to close/d? and are there any plans for it afterwards?
  14. I can appreciate TOPS being updated after the event, but why add a withdrawal date after the cutting date?
  15. One important thing to remember is who's closing the gates/lowering the barriers etc. A case could be made for pretty much most options as examples of varying things existed even post 2000. Fiskerton Junction still had a gate wheel! and signals for a very minor adjacent road crossing along with semaphore signals. AHBs "tend not" to be used in such circumstances for they would have to be lowered automatically as the train approached, but if it stopped in the station they would be down too long, which is why such places often have their platforms staggered either side of the crossing so a train goes over the crossing in both directions BEFORE stopping. IMHO, a nice ex Midland Railway crossing box with a gate keeper, ala Fiskerton Station, with semaphore signals (but not block signals) would be nice...
  16. Just looking through the BR Database pages and read http://www.brdatabase.info/locoqry.php?action=locodata&type=D&id=1833&loco=1833 RE: loco 47352... it lists its withdrawal date as 14/07/2000 but states it was cut up 24/05/2000 by Raxstar (at Frodingham MPD) Surely it wasn't cut up BEFORE it was withdrawn.....?

  20. Hi, Frodingham had a single road diesel shed prior to the opening of its diesel depot and I wondered, is this definitely the building captioned as being Frodingham? http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p220987689/h69264345#h69264345
  21. Hi, after a visit to holiday location that had a railway coach as accommodation, I'm looking into how much a MkI or MkII coach would cost to purchase. If anyone has one for sale and wishes to advise of likely cost, that would be great please.

  23. Hi, would anyone happen to know the date of the opening for Stratford Diesel depot? Trains Illustrated Dec 1960 has a lovely article but no opening date...?
  24. a pic in Modern Railways Pictorial April 1983 shows 45054 at the head of the 08:57 Leeds to Carlisle with just TWO coaches! caption says 42 second class and 24 first class seats, no doubt someone will be able to discern the coach types....?
