  1. Well it does say 2017 could be exciting. I suppose that's 11 3/4 months! The reference to the Hornby yearbook is wrong though, I think it's the Jan edition of the Hornby Mag he refers to . I don't think it's sniping. He's got a point and making it.
  2. Sorry I thought it was mk2fs but I've since seen prices confirmed. Yup it's the same when costing any product. There's always an element of business risk and sometimes a contingency built in
  3. This is actually less than I imagined. If you look at what they charged for the Autocoach on the basis it was a limited prototype then I really thought the DBSO would have been more. Still not happy. Frankly I'd prefer one without DCC @£45. What does it mean having DCC lights in normal 2Fs ? You can turn them on or off individually- what's the point? I'm still not convinced by the price. Is this Hattons just taking a punt. I note Bachmann have still not confirmed prices on most of their 2017 range. Maybe that's deliberate as last years announcement was swamped by the reaction to the prices released at the same time. Maybe they are going to drip feed them this time.
  4. Yes I'd agree. Bachmann playing an interesting game though. I don't think I've seen confirmed prices on Bachmann website yet, just Hattons prices and they may only be indications. I note that the Branchline range is expected to go up 6% which seems pretty good when Brexits caused a 18% devaluation affecting their costs in China ( note not all costs and profit margins are in China some are UK £, which haven't gone up) . Of course that's after 3 years of very large increases. Let's not forget that, so Bachmann may well have a little more leeway than others to absorb costs. I wait a price list with some interest
  5. I think they must be Coryton . It's the only explanation I have for price differential. .But even then you would struggle to see difference. Supposed to be a higher standard of decoration and metal wheels. I run Choc Cream , Maroon and Crimson Cream. Railroad models and I'm quite happy with standard of decor. They don't have coaching roundels, but I can easily add them
  6. I think people too often think about what items may cost to make , while in reality the price is set by manufacturers on basis of what they think they can get for them. Like others I'd question £39 for the Mk1 , really that's a huge differential on the £22 crimson and cream Railroad ones. I'd have thought a price of £32 ish would have been more appropriate, in fact they are selling their Mk3s at that price.
  7. The 14xx pedigree dates back to the late 70s and Airfix. When they went bust it moved onto Dapol .Hornby then bought the tools for use and it reappeared in Hornby Railways range. It was never a great runner in Airfix days. I think Hornby remotored it , but I believe it has traction tyres to improve load hauling. Not sure if this latest Railroad version will have them or not. So I will wait and see. I think. Hornby have to be commended for maintaining a range at low cost, so I'd like to support them
  8. I think if you bought the super trainset you could reasonably expect something with better decoration. However the 14xx is built down to a price. Hornby are selling this loco at £45 , that's pretty low. You really can't expect full detailing and livery for that. I'll have a look at it. It's fairly easy to remove Hornby printing ,I think, and replace with GWR. It depends if it has traction tyres and how it runs.
  9. Quite right. Only problem is if you have to secure capacity for that 2nd run from outside supplier and all capacity is already used up. Possibly Hornby would have liked to capitalised on the Pecketts success but have already secured 2017 capacity and can't find additional capacity for 2nd run. I think releasing a black one is sensible, and as others have said I'd expect a Peckett or 2 to feature in most years ranges. I hadn't realised until I saw it on here that Dodo was in the standard Peckett scheme, so a variant of that's bound to appear again sometime.
  10. I think they have to be congratulated. It's only 11 months since we had major doubts there would be a Hornby 2017 at all . As suspected the new models were announced at Warley and it's reliveries that we are looking at. There is a lot of interest in there and if the range is contracting, it's not really easy to see where. I find it really interesting who decides what to make and how to cost it, so there is lots of interest in there. Some observations. Clearly Hornby still believe there is a market for the "Rich Uncle" trainset. With Mallard and A3 appearing in a digital trainset They also clearly believe there is a price enhancement possible by calling something a "Limited Edition" ( a tad ironic, as as Bertiedog has just found out if it's at all popular it's automatically a limited edition!) £319 for the HST pair is eye watering and compares badly with £374 for the forthcoming GWR 5 car IET/class 800. A bit expensive I'd say but they obviously believe people will buy them. Similarly I'm a bit puzzled at difference between "Final day" Royal Scot @ £199 and the main range one , which looks to be the same @ £134.99 , so £65 differential. Maybe it's a really limited edition! It's nice to see Royal Scot, Q1 and possibly 4MT ( duplication never really works and I think the Bachmann ones still current?)make a comeback . Some pricing is actually pretty good . The Black Peckett is £89.99 which I think I'm correct is the same as the final price of the three that are just out. And maybe I'm becoming acclimatised to current pricing but £109 for the new 0-4-4T looks not bad. Interesting use of three railroad models 14xx, Class 90 and Class 73 all low priced to compete with DJ/Hattons , Bachmann ( although Hornby may be 2 years ahead of the Bachmann model) and Dapol. A deliberate assault on competition maybe? To be honest , those of of us at the cheapskate , failing eyesight end of the hobby may well be satisfied with a Railroad 14xx at £45 compared to the all singing and dancing Hattons £99 one , especially if it doesn't have a coreless motor and runs as sweet as others in the range. On coaching . Nice to see Colletts , LSWR all at reasonable price of £45 . Some clear water established here between Hornby and Bachmann (Thompsons £55) in pricing high spec coaches. Good on you Hornby. I'm glad we've got a full range of Blue/Grey Mk1s but these are pretty expensive at £39 for what is essentially a jumped up railroad model. This is emphasised by the fact that there are railroad versions at £21.99. I know they have metal wheels and slightly enhanced livery , but an extra £18....really? Also interesting that Mk3s are only £32.99 no doubt the forthcoming Oxford model has forced a moderation in pricing. But overall it's fascinating stuff. Still haven't got my Caley 812 or bulk standard single chimney Castle, but I'm sure there's lots in the range to tempt me.......and a traditional Catalogue to boot. Well done Hornby!
  11. Does anyone have the name or actual address of Glasgow shop on Dumbarton road. I passed by yesterday . Obviously as 1st Jan everything shut but didn't see anything obvious. I was in car though so not much time to take in scenery!
  12. Agree with Jim F. This is an eMag with the name MREmag . It is not the MREmag most people interacted with. Let's see what the new moderated forum looks like, but I'm afraid to say I don't think the new management team really understand what they had and the essence of MREmag . This was essentially "having your say" . The rest was incidental. It's a shame. I miss it.
  13. Suspect it may actually be due to people looking for Pecketts. Tipped off on here they had stock of H&P ones I went onto website afternoon of 22nd and my Peckett was delivered using their normal Mail service on Christmas Eve. Well impressed.
  14. Go on give it a good home . You know you want to
  15. Love that to be true Jason Unfortunately I think we are getting carried away here. Hornby announced their new locos at Warley and before. The 0-4-4T , class 87 and Duchess. Also Toad and new Mk1s . That's pretty impressive as it is. I think what they are announcing will be reliveries and program for their existing models. BR single chimney, Collet tendered , late BR Castle please.........Bristol Castle. I reckon it's 60 years since it was introduced by Hornby Dublo, and they haven't released what I think is the most popular configuration of Castle as a mainstream release yet. I'd like to be proved wrong ,though ,and a Caledonian 812 in blue would be very attractive. The Huntley and Palmers Peckett shows that blue is the colour!
  16. Absolutely . Flying Scotsman trainsets only ever came with "system 6 " track. I suppose he could have got the set and run it on existing track he may have had.
  17. Spot on . Completely different markets and costings. Simply bolting a Railroad body on won't give a replacement to Smokey Joe . Just look at the exquisite wheels on the Peckett compared to the mass produced smokey joe. I actually think this model is so attractive it could well create a market by itself ie collectors of Pecketts . A nice rich red livery would go down well. Should add I've got no real use for these locos. It's just that they are so attractive in their own right that I'd consider buying more. It's a long time since I've had such pleasure buying a model locomotive
  18. I don't know what quantities Hornby produced in . I suppose it depends if they can exercise an option with the manufacturer to have a second batch , perhaps at a lower quantity. I'd doubt this .However, the reality is that Hornby have to secure manufacturing capacity as they have none in house. It is a fairly inflexible(but cheap) supply chain. They must already have agreed 2017 production. So I would expect we will see more Pecketts but, almost certainly different liveries, and possibly not until 2018. I'm afraid you can't just turn on a tap. The situation with 2 car emus was completely different . They made too many then brought out another 2 car variant far too soon and saturated the market. But with lots of livery permutations I think we are a long way from that with the Peckett.
  19. Well I , along with a great many others, used to mix Hornby power cars and Jouef Mk3s , so I suppose matching Rapido HSDTs with Oxford Mk3s will be fine . I suspect the number of early Mk3s produced by Oxford will be small in comparison to the total no of mk3s they will churn out , so I don't think there would be a huge risk for them. They can wait until later to judge demand and numbers
  20. Hesitating to ask this........but what's a sprag?
  21. I'd never heard of the Marklin Warship. It's not clear was this just the German Diesel reliveried? I knew of the the Fleischmann model and of the Rivarossi Royal Scot but never seen this mentioned in a magazine. Very interesting Unfortunately I've still not seen this magazine. Not sure how it can be distributed up here in Glasgow as there's not that many model shops around .
  22. Merry Christmas everyone. Wishing you all Health Wealth and Happiness.
  23. Great little loco . Just run mine for the first time. Impressive slow speed control . A really fantastic price of kit . Got to be contender for model of the year .Tricky one as I thought Rapidos APTE was a dead cert, but for all it's diminutive size this locos certainly a show stopper. Beautiful blue colour, fantastic lining too.
  24. Yes didn't know about this shop . As Vitalspark, I fair miss D&F models . Well stocked always happy to serve. Waddles models is a bit of a disappointment in that he does t seem to stock Hornby. He did have some Bachmann trucks for a while but that seems to be sporadic.,maybe he doesn't stock since their prices went through roof. I know he has Oxford and Dapol. I didn't know about this shop in Dumbarton Road so may have a wee nosey round . If it's reasonably stocked then I'll certainly give him some patronage. Glasgow needs a model shop. It can't be easy starting up in this climate. Is there also a shop in Cambuslang ? Anyone been?
