  3. Not every operator has £600k lying around, thats like saying if one person can afford a Lotus then so can everyone - life is not that simple.
  4. Thanks Paul - missed that but I've not been around the forum much for a few years for various reasons.
  5. Look nice - you need me standing on the top of one looking a bit nervous ! When I was in the Mostyn team we went to Anglesey and photographed all the wagons, all over, including the tops (hence my comment above) - I think @PaulCheffus may still have copies of my images ?

  11. Signal box nameboards on the LMS used something which was very near to Gill Sans, when I was with WFRM we sent (LMS) drawings to Bill Bedford who made us a "genuine" LMS nameboard for Stockton Heath signal box.
  12. At Lime Street in the 1970s through to the 1980s passengers used to open the doors as trains arrived and would often jump off as the train was still moving, I did it a lot, especially when arriving late in the evening and needing to "get down to the Mersey" to catch the last one of them home, it was quicker as you could jump off and then outrun the train to the stops meaning you were ahead of the queue which would form at the entrance to the Merseys when a trainload of people disgorged onto the platforn. I also hung out of door windows for years photographing signals, used to duck back in when lineside vegetation encroached of course but I would never hang out with my back to traffic except where I knew the lineside was clear and/or could be sure there were no trains on the other side if I was hanging out on the 6' side. I think (perhaps wrongly) that some of the unfortunate accidents when people hit structures were caused by items being foul to gauge, either in error or because relaying effectively moved the railway nearer to them. As an aside there were definitely official ways of opening Mk 1s from the inside but it was quite difficult as the catch was very tough. As has been said I think people are far, very far, less aware of risks these days which means the good old days should probably stay there - good but old
  13. If it runs again I'm intending going to an overbridge to photograph the train and get shots of the load
  14. Eccles Road 28/06/2023 (Wednesday) 66601, The Hope Valley, on 6L81, 00:53, Tunstead Sdgs - Trowse Yard Redland Siding (07:49) - loaded stone (10 MWA) 66601, The Hope Valley, on 6Z45, 15:09, Trowse (FHH) - Tunstead Sdgs (20:59) - empty stone (18 MWA)

  16. Eccles Road 21/06/2023 (Wednesday) 66538 on 6L81, 00:53, Tunstead Sdgs - Trowse Yard Redland Siding (07:49) - loaded stone (19 MWA) 66538 on 6Z45, 15:02, Trowse (FHH) - Tunstead Sdgs (20:58) - empty stone (19 MWA), loco had to be turned at Norwich due to cab fault

  18. Another run this week. Eccles Road 18/07/2023 (Tuesday) 66181 on 6L92, 02:12, Toton Up Sidings - Eccles Rd Johnston's Sdg (07:14) - loaded stone (16 MMA) into Eccles Road Exchange Sidings Compare this with the shot in the previous post and you can see (hopefully) that the wagons are being propelled into the road nearest the running line, rather than the outside road - this makes it a lot tighter on the running round after the train has been unloaded, not impossible of course, but a lot harder. The usual guy was sunning himself in Spain so one of the other guys covered the job. 66181 takes the first 8 MMA off 6L92, 02:12, Toton Up Sidings - Eccles Rd Johnston's Sdg (07:14) - loaded stone (16 MMA) for unloading as 755409 on 1K59, 06:33, Norwich - Cambridge (07:53) draws to a stop. 66181 on 6M88, 11:56, Eccles Rd Johnston's Sdg - Toton North Yard (17:07) - empty stone (16 MMA) waiting to propel out of the Exchange Sidings Demonstrating the rural nature of the sidings (at Eccles Road) And once again, we're off to Toton with the empties
