  2. Hi, yes, more or less. They are sold as spares for their DMU kits I guess, hence no clues as to how they're meant to go together. I set pinpoint bearings into the plastic axle-holes, and fabricated new crossmembers from thick plasticard. Wheels would be 12mm (IIRC) Keen-Maygibs bought from http://www.wizardmodels.co.uk/ Lima's wheels are too small, which complicates things ride-height wise. My blog shows how redundant bits of the DCK bogies can be used to set the ride height by happy coincidence. However, more elegant engineering solutions are available!
  3. Following advice from (among others) members 43179 and Jim SW of this forum, I fitted DC Kits bogies to my Hornby (ex Lima) 101. The principles (if not details also) will be the same. Hornby bogies from their 110 are slightly better still. The following link leads to my 101 - it might be of interest. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php/blog/9/entry-3443-101-part-4-dms-nearing-completion/
  4. BLT without the twee. I like it. B)
  5. Ahh Pugsley, I feel guilty for laughing at your misfortune, but your opening paragraphs gave me a good laugh at the PC. Edit: 1/6/10 see post at bottom: I missed the point completely in my comment here last night, thought the reversal of viewing angle was going the other way.

    Albannach

Very attractive scenic work you're doing there, I miss that side of things. The textures and associated depths of colour possible in 7mm appeal to me.
  7. Listening to Lauren Laverne on 6music while I contemplate the ingredients of a pair of BR(M) vans strewn over the workbench.
  8. Nice. Don't forget the black version for authentic pre- stone cleaning period modelling. That or typical "Scottish Special" local authority houses would appeal to me.

  10. That static grass really is the business, isn't it.

Oh very nice, I do fancy one of these by similar means (or maybe Judith Edge kit) at some point. Do keep us posted as and when.
  12. Yes, and seems to have become common pretty soon into the GSYP era. Not that I've got round to adorning mine though
  13. Have been hoping for a long time that you'd showcase some of your layout here on RMWeb Andy - it's outstanding.
  14. Presumably like in the proposals of the first post in the thread, it's a normal 09, except there wasn't a #027 example.
  15. Nowt wrong with an occasional injection of reality JohnR. I agree with your assessments, for what it's worth. At this point, two things are worth note - 1/ the thread disappeared for a month, showing the transience of interest on forums, and 2/ the next step is bound to be more involved than clicking a mouse button on a poll. Caledonian needs some folk to really - actively - rally behind him in taking the argument forward, and I couldn't suggest how you will do that. Good luck.
  16. I think you've nailed the oily clean look there John, lovely - adds a real depth to the colour.
  17. The answer may lie in the reasons folk choose imaginary locations. Some layouts are just generic backgrounds to their locomotives, suiting the individual's taste. If one was to pick generic locomotives and drop them onto generic layouts, well it seems to lose all connection to reality.
  18. Wonderful Brian, thanks for sharing. I'd love to have a go at one of these, 60s condition, green with yellow warning panels. Someday... someday.
  19. Seeing as it's Tuesday: http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=28786 http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=28766 http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=28614 http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=28667 http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=28694 http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=28700 http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=28707 Personally, I like this one http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=28683 and the sort-of OT bonus ball: http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=28789
  20. well seeing as I'd nothing better to do, D1975: http://diesel-image-gallery.fotopic.net/p62272246.html but ... http://davesyorkshirerailwayarchive.fotopic.net/p57711924.html I sense a minor diversion here. Still interesting though, despite the recently imposed Galloway diesel moratorium.
  21. I don't think they were pasted Dave - came across two locos (Brush 4s) via Flickr, they had black-on-white headcodes presumably experimental. Afraid at nigh on 2300hrs I'm not going back digging for them at the moment But I shall try and have a look tomorrow, check that D1975 was one of them, and I'm not talking out my posterior. Funnily enough, it was the fact I thought they'd be right up 'Chard's street that's made them stick in my mind! >> as I remembered the photie, have it anyway - not 1975, but have a look anyway:
  22. The Lima motors while a bit 'rough and ready' are generally pretty hard to kill, unless the brushes wear out, or you go breaking windings on the armature. I was taking them apart to clean fluff out the gears and black oily cr@p off the pickups from age 10, no harm to motor or me You could look to fit some sort of replacement mechanism in there, black beetle or similar. I also seem to remember Neil Rushby having a go at one of these online somewhere - may have the wrong man, but go googling, see what you can find. And have fun B)
  23. Yes, think you're right. Signal box would be on the other side of the train, so coming towards the camera in the shot of the front of the box on the page (another site) linked below: http://www.signalbox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2055&hilit=carlisle+canal Sidings just visible beside that signal. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: PS: There's been another swathe of Waverley shots (steam era) on Railbrit of late...
