  1. Treat the PDH drawings as rough guides and not as fact. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/40228-excellent-loco-drawings/ Andi
  2. Look at what happened last week with the hostile takeover of GKN by asset strippers, in Germany this would not have been possible as they would need a 75% vote of shareholders there instead of just a simple majority. Capitalist asset strippers make a quick buck, another substantial engineering company decimated. Also in the Maplin thread it was mentioned that in Germany Trade Unions get to sit on the boards of companies. These two things alone are a large part of why Germany still has a heavy engineering industry and Britain doesn't. Andi
  3. It's not just RMweb, it happens on Twitter on Chrome too Andi
  4. Exactly the same as the one I posted at London Bridge, the risk of starting away against the red and coming together with something coming up the loop alongside. Andi
  5. See full explanation in the PDF linked to earlier in the thread. Andi
  6. Good thing is that of the two units that have survived one is fitted with one type, and the other has the other Andi
  7. There was one at London Bridge at the up end of platform 6, probably all swept away now though http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1019657 Andi
  8. Watch out though, there are two designs of transformer on 309s! Andi
  9. Does this help? P1080821 by Ravensclyffe, on Flickr P1080815 by Ravensclyffe, on Flickr P1080814 by Ravensclyffe, on Flickr Edit to add: there are a whole raft of underframe photos there taken at Coventry last year. Andi
  10. Have you saved a local copy of the PDF or are you trying to view it online? Save it locally and open it with whatever PDF viewer you choose and you should be able to zoom right in with complete clarity Andi
  11. There are other options than track detection out there now too, a system called GamesOnTrack uses a sort of GPS system to work out where the locos are completely separate to any control system, this can then link to your DCC system and control your trains. It can even work out the track plan of the layout by following where the locos go for a little while! The entire system can be fitted to an existing layout with no need to make any changes to electrical systems to create detection blocks http://www.gamesontrack.co.uk/pages/webside.asp?articleGuid=64556 Andi
  12. I've still got my bardic, trouble is that it is hard to get AD28s these days Andi
  13. Ever been on a Pendolino? (and did APT have retracting steps too?) Andi
  14. You do know that N-brass portals are supplied with underscale length legs don't you? That's why I had to get Nick Tilson (of N-brass) to make longer legs for them... see http://www.nbrasslocos.co.uk/oocat.html item 4553 extra length legs Andi
  15. Typical portal drawing from official BR drawings, this one is a portal near Stafford The real portal is 24ft 1inch overall height above railhead height, that's 96mm in 4mm scale The laser-cut portals are 92mm clearance, so presumably that is the measurement from the foot of the leg to the underside of the portal bridge. By the time you add in the thickness of trackbed, sleeper and rail (about 6mm) that allows 86 mm clearance, allow 10mm for the depth of the portal bridge itself and that comes pretty damn close to the prototypical overall height for a portal. It would seem to me that the laser-cut portals are pretty much EXACTLY to scale and it is Bescotbeast that needs to read up on the subject matter. As an aside I personally am not too keen on the look of the laser-cut portals, and I wonder how you would go about attaching the hanging gubbins for the wires themselves, N-Brass look much more convincing (Second portal from camera is N-Brass) Andi
  16. Don't worry, when the eyesight gets that bad you won't be able to see the tension lock anyway Andi
  17. I asked that question at Warley, unfortunately it will have that stupid coupling mech. Andi
  18. Have you ever tried to undo a screw coupling without squeezing the buffers up first? I have and believe me I'd go with a buckeye EVERY time. Andi
  19. That your daughter is as nutty as a fruit cake, and she lives next door to a(n) ex Hermes courier... Andi
