  1. You've replaced it - you know you can't fool me, I'd know which side it was from the brakegear Same conclusion here. I've always thought the body is an excellent example of Lima's finesse, and the planking on the verandah just sets it off IIRC I've also used a spare roof on an Airfix kit bodge, which fitted like it, um, wasn't made for it. I wobbled on doing anything with the Lima chassis though, which is a different story; mine will sit on a spare Bachmann one
  2. This weather's sh*te. Don't mind the rain, can't stand the wind though

  3. That's a bit like saying a rhinoceros is prettier than a hippopotamus
  4. the gentle art of track weathering...

  5. Mmm, it's one of those things that although correct, doesnt necessarily scale down well - you'd probably need to slightly weather the fresh panels in order to give a more blended appearance. In similar vein, I always thought 6123 looked 'wrong' somehow, probably because of the relatively larger area of yellow on the disc-bedecked front, compared with headcode machines
  6. No intention to chastise particularly, I suppose it's up to you if you want to ignore freely given advice and use your time ineffectively
  7. Interesting question Bernard, and I've learnt something My 1968 combine shows the coupling codes for the last 20 as Blue Star (I knew that, cos there's at least one pic of a Kittybrewster one multi'd with a 20). More interestingly, it shows the first 38 as red circle (including the rebuilds), with the exception of 6104/22/35 (unrebuilt) which are also Blue Star. So it looks like some at least were made Blue Star compatible, as with the Claytons
  8. Jury's out here. The prototype is a bit 'slabby' anyway, and the overall blue doesnt flatter it.
  9. A search of this thread using the word Motorail (no need to search the whole forum) found these two posts, and took me a fraction of the time your post would have taken to type out
  10. I dont normally like to single things out Dave, but that's fantastic

  15. Getting quite popular, is this beastie - Alan Dewey had one on 'East Lodge' and I've got a LIma one lined up myself
  16. Somebody with a little knowledge of physics (not me) will be able to find the theory that states that it's impossible to pull a piece of string perfectly taut, and I'd suggest that the same principle applies to pulling a heavy sheet perfectly taut over wagon sides. As for the idea of arranging the load in order to raise the sheet, I'd suspect there were many occasions when that just wasn't possible.
  17. That's interesting, hard to see from that shot just what it is (not aware of any physical diffs in the panels, I wonder if it's some sort of paint treatment). Any chance of a link to the earlier shot Chard? Bruce might well know different, but that looks sadly like a demolition train

  23. Ah well, back up a bit then you impetuous fool For that late pattern brakegear, you need them all to be present and correct - I'm sure you can restore that odd missing one with microstrip. The early builds (with either RCH or LNER brakegear) were the ones with less ribs (and for completeness, some later RCH-braked ones also had eight ribs).
